Yesterday [30 JUN 2007] in Paris, President Nicolas Sarkozy gave Barbra Streisand a medal. The medal of the Legion of Honor is a general (but elite) "merit" medal, technically reserved for French citizens but often bestowed on deserving foreigners. This is the first time Sarkozy has awarded a Legion of Honor medal, and this week's concert was also Streisand's first performance in France. ...MORE...

APR 24 1942- Barbra Streisand, Vocals/actress, b. Brooklyn, New York, NY. Barbara Joan Streisand is the Daughter of Diana Rosen and Emmanuel Streisand and was raised as an orthodox Jew. She attended Bais Yakov School in Brooklyn, New York as a child. In 1978, she and Neil Diamond had a huge hit with "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", but the two, both born in Brooklyn, had sung together before in a high school choir. She is good friends with Shirley MacLaine, with whom she celebrates their joint birthdays each year, along with clothes designer Donna Karan. She has won a grammy, an oscar, a tony and an emmy.
