A special word of praise should be given to the fortitude of the 'girl' singers of the times. It was common practice then for a band to become known via some -usually remote- radio broadcasts. Kay Finegan, big band singer and top NY caterer, dead at 95
Kay Finegan, a singer and music arranger of the big band era who later reinvented herself as one of New York's top caterers, has died. She was 95. She married Bill Finegan in 1936. With Finegan, she plunged into the heady world of the big band era, becoming a band singer, manager and credited arranger with Finegan on many famous tunes including "Little Brown Jug."
