Q: What is the right engine for my car?

A: It all matters on the aplication of the engine, I run OS engines in all my cars, I have 2 OS CV's and a CZZ and I have had very little problems with these engine's, so naturally I recomend the OS CV.

Q: How do I start my engine for the first time?

A: Fill the fuel tank up with fuel, take the glow plug out and crank the engine over about 10 time to get fuel into the fuel lines and the engine, when you put the glow plug back in make sure the piston is at the top of the stroke. While the glow plug is out you should make sure that the glow plug is good and that your battery is good on the glow igniter. Put the glow igniter on the glow plug (after you put the glow plug back in the cylinder head) and crank the engine over using your pull start, hand starter, or starter box. It should fire right up, or atleats make a poping noise like it is trying to. If it does make this noise but wont fire up, try raising the idle 1/4 of a turn.

Q: How do I break in my engine?

A: Do not touch any of the factory settings on the carb, let the car idle as rich as possible for 3 tanks of fuel before u start leaning it out, if that dosnt work try this: Get a flat head screw driver that will fit in the needle slots screw in the bottom end needle all the way till it stops, DONT FORCE IT TO GO ANY FURTHER! Screw it out (counter clock wise) about 2 1/2 to 3 turns out on the bottom end screw out the top end about 3-3 1/2 turns. Leave the idle where it is at for now. When breaking in your engine pleanty of fuel should be coming out of the pipe or muffler and your engine should be barily running at this rich setting.

Q: How do i know if my engine is rich or lean?

A: Well, when an engine is lean it takes off abruptly from idle and runs hotter then normal, on hot days you will have to richen up your engine to make it run at optimum temperature. If your engine is to lean it will die when u hit the gas becuase there is not enough fuel for the engine to run, or at idle if your engines revs up a little then dies if u do not touch the gas it is to lean also. It can also die from to much heat...this causes expansion of the piston and sleeve and they do not have a good enough seal to run so it dies. CAUTION!! A LEAN ENGINE CAN CAUSE PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE!! A rich engine will have fuel coming out of the pipe and have blue smoke...alot of it...this is good for the engine but bad for performance because there is to much fuel for the engine to burn so it will take of very slowly of die from to much fuel...BE CAREFUL IF YOU RUN YOUR ENGINE RICH IT MIGHT GET HYDRA LOCK (IT WILL BE VERY HARD TO CRANK THE ENGINE OVER) DO NOT FORCE THE ENGINE TO CRANK OVER!! All you have to do is take the glow plug out, turn your car over crank it over a couple times, make sure the piston is at the top of its stroke and put the glow plug back in, while the glow plug is out you should check to make sure that it is good, it should be glowing a bright orange color.

Q: What is the right temp for my engine?

A: About 210 to 230 is good i run my engines at 220. I recomend getting a MIP temp gauge so that your car is eaiser to tune. After running your car for about 2-3 mins bring it in (its important to do this as quickly as possible, be cautious if you are using a stock OS CV head becuase they retain alot of heat) to check the temperature.

Q: How do I tune my engine?

A: Tuning is not that hard once you get the hang of it (just like everything else), I tune my temp, while some tune just by where the engine runs best, this is good if you can get engines for free but most of us cant. I also tune for my driving style I like the bottom end a click leaner then usualy so it gives me that extra punch out of turns but this means that I also have to richen up the top end a litle to make up for that extra heat from the bottom end being a little lean. Once you get your car going and you are driving it the first thing you should do is check the temp. There should always be a nice blue plume of smoke coming out of the pipe, IT SHOULD NEVER BE WHITE THIS MEANS THAT IT IS LEAN! (some times the smoke looks white but it should have a blue tint which might be hard to see). If your car takes off very fast on the bottom end then bog's out on the top end, this means that your engine is lean on the bottom end and rich on the top end so lean out the top end 1/8 a turn and richen up the bottom end 2 clicks. If it does the opposite lean out the bottom end 1-2 clicks then richen up the top end 1/8 turn. I think the hardest part of tuning an engine for beginer's is setting the idle. This is just something that you will have to play around with to get the hang of it. If your engine dies at idle while u dont touch the gas and revs up right before it dies, this meens that its lean. If it just cant run and dosnt sounds right it might be rich, and if it just wont start unless your giving it throttle the idle is probably low. Q: What is the differene between negative and positive camber?

A: Negative camber is like this: / \ viewed from the front or rear of the car. Positive camber is just the opposite it is like this: \ / viewed from the front or rear of the car.

Q: What affect does positive camber or negative camber have on handling?

A: Positive or negative camber gives or takes away traction in the front or rear. You NEVER want positive camber and your can tell if you have positive camber by reading the question above. More - camber in the front gives you more steering but less rear traction, and more - camber in the rear gives u less steering but more rear traction. Its just a matter of taste and finding what is right for your driving style.

Q: What is the difference between positive and negative toe?

A: Positive or negative toe gives u less in the turn steering or more out of the turn steering. Positive toe is like this: \ / viewed front the top of the car. Negative toe is just the opposite and is like this: / \ viewed from the top of the car. More positve toe gives u more steering out of the turn and makes the car less stable. More negative toe gives you more into the turn steering and makes the car more stable. As the same with camber its just a matter of getting the car to feel right to your driving style. I always run 0 toe in the front.

Q: What affect does ride height play with my cars handling.

A: Its never ideal to have your suspension to have your suspension as high as it will go. You want the front a-arms to be level, a little below level, or a little above depending on driving style and driving conditions. More front ride heith gives you less steering but more rear traction. Less front ride heigth gives you more steering but less rear traction. More rear ride heigth gives you more steering but less rear traction. Less rear ride heigth gives you more rear traction but less steering. As with everything else its all a matter of driving style and track conditions but if you can tune all these to your preference your car will handle the way you want it to when you want it to.
