Fall Hunt 2000 - The Guides, Hunters and Other 'team members'...

Lark Ritchie invites you to browse the collection of articles and information at this site as you plan your trip to Northern Ontario. Lark has guided outdoorsmen and women since the age of twelve. A member of the Chapleau Cree First Nation, he brings a native perspective to hunting that few other outfitter/guides can match.

Lark's thoughts on hunting and hunting ethics have been presented in publications such as the Philadelphia Inquirer, Toronto Star, Soo Star, and Timmins Daily Press newspapers; the "Greenhaven Press, Inc. - Current Controversies" Series 'The Rights of Animals'; and popular press paperbacks like "Tales of the Ultimate Sportsman". You can search for several websites featuring the complete text or excerpts from his writings.

Ron Wing makes his home at Keefer Lake, some 30 miles west of Timmins, with his wife, Rose, and two sons, Fred and Matt. Ron has worked with Lark since 1991 and is an accomplished woodsman, fisherman and guide.

Ron is able to make your first time first-time experience comfortable and enjoyable. Seasoned hunters come to recognize Ron's abilities quickly forming a true hunting partnership remembered for a lifetime.

Gary, of Litchfield, Ohio, took this nice bruin with a bow on his third hunt with us. This is Gary's second bear with us. Gary did a lot of video, and photography, and we hope to get some of his adventures up here on the site, as soon as he can get them to us.

Gary took this one the evening of September 11, then spent the rest of the week 'runnin' with the guides and filming the wilds of Northern Ontario.

Nick, first time bear hunter, took this 278 lb. bruin at 80 yards, September 13, 2000. It took four of us to pole him out to the truck. A special thanks from Lark and Ron to Bill, Gary, Nick and John.

Nick had played cat and mouse with the bear for three days, getting out early in the morning, and staying on the stand full days. His persistence paid off. One shot dropped the bear quickly saving us a tracking job.

The evening Nick took this one, he was visited by second bear while he waited to be picked up by his hunting buddies who had just seen a third one just up the road from Nick's stand.

Bill, another first time bear hunter, took his bear at 4:30 p.m. September 12, 2000. Bill dropped this one right in his tracks. He plans to have a rug made which will run a little over five feet square.
Dan and John, with Dan's bear, taken in the last minutes of the last day of the last hunt week in 2001. Dan Flew into Timmins with John from Florida. It's a one day trip, when considering layovers. Quite a difference a day makes!
Mike, (left) another first time bear hunter, and Ben, who helped out on the first week. Mike took his bear at 7:20 p.m. August 28, 2000. Mike also dropped this one right in its tracks. After his experieces with us, Mike has been nick-named 'Bear Brother".

Previously a fisherman, Mike has become an avid hunter. Ask Mike for his tasty 'jamaica jerk' barbeque recipe. It's a real treat.. we tried it with the tenderloin later in the week... mmmm-mmm good!

Ben spent time with us as an observer, taking in his first taste of bear hunting, both experientially, and also in the literal sense, with Mikes bear barbeque feast.

Visitors at Camp...

Laura, Lark's daughter, with Mike's bear at our Fool Lake spike camp. Laura helped skin out this one, a task she has handled since she was thirteen.

Laura's first bearhunt was in June of 1980, when she visited one of our tent camps for a few days. (She was just six months old at the time. Since then she has learned to skin and butcher. On her 'off time', she attends university, majoring in engineering chemistry.
