Davis 3-point hitch plans

Here is an affordable 3-point hitch for the John Deere models A, B, 50 and 60.

The Davis hitch can be built from all new materials for as little as $40 , will lift as heavy an implement as the tractor's hydraulics can handle, is more compact than other after-market hitches, looks good, requires no modification of the tractor and does not block access to the rear hydraulic hose connections.

If you want to save time, you can buy many parts ready-made from farm equipment suppliers and still have less than $150 invested compared to as much as $758 at Sam's Tractors for a factory-made hitch that dominates the whole back end of the tractor. The Davis hitch also puts the implement closer to the tractor than any other including the Hoxey hitch. The Hoxie hitch uses a standard toplink, but that toplink requires longer lift arms, which puts the load farther behind the axle. The Hoxie hitch also uses less effective sway bracing that interferes with the drawbar. My first hitch in 1977 was much like his, but I learned the value of having the load closer to the tractor. The hitch will work with "Power-Trol " or "Power lift." "Power Lift" provides only full up or full down positions, although both hydraulic systems allow an implement to float with changes in the contour of the ground.

Any category 1 implement will work with this hitch.

Plans consist of step-by-step instructions, a general arrangement drawing and 9 detail drawings, most of which are full size. All materials needed are specified and are readily available from steel suppliers and farm equipment dealers.
