The Eufaula Police Department is made up of a group of dedicated men, and women, with the goals of protecting the citizens of Eufaula, and assisting the public to the best of their ability. The Eufaula Police Department is an equal opportunity employer. Officers are screened through procedures established by the City of Eufaula. Once hired, if not already certified by the State of Alabama, they attend a 12 week police academy course, with extensive training in various aspects of law enforcement.
Upon completion of school, they are assigned to an FTO (Field Training Officer), for final evaluation, and release on patrol. Officers are then given their own assigned police vehicle. Officers are further assigned to a shift, under the direction of Senior Supervisors, who are responsible for evaluations, and continued education. Officers have the opportunity to advance other specialist fields.
The Eufaula Police Department has a Criminal Investigation Division, which is responsible for the investigations of crimes, and various other assigned duties. This unit has a high success rate in solving crimes committed within Eufaula. In addition, the Department has two fully assigned police dogs, trained in search and rescue, and drug detection, and a Police Tactical Team (SWAT), with seven highly trained tactical officers, trained in hostage rescue, barricaded suspects, and other special assigned duties.
The Police Department has three shifts, with a fourth shift assigned to work the Housing Units, and other high crime areas, as directed by the Department. All officers of the Eufaula Police Department are involved in the Community Policing Program. This is a program aimed at getting the citizens involved with direct input to the officers. Ideas, and suggestions from the citizens assist officers in performing their assigned duties, and allows them to direct concerns on items that the citizen feels are important. The goal is to have a better communication with the public that we serve, and address those items that we may not see, on an everyday basis. In addition, we have two D.A.R.E Officers teaching in the school systems.
The officers of the Eufaula Police Department come from all walks of life, most officers have families living within the Eufaula Area. They are dedicated to protect and serve the citizens of Eufaula. They work demanding hours, with the aspects of being called back to duty, in various situations, twenty four hours a day.
