EDWIN HURST, Fencing Master

Coach Hurst is accredited a Maitre d'Armes (Master of Arms) by the Academie d'Armes Internationale and as a Fencing Master by the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. He is the immediate past president of the latter organization, the accreditation body for fencing coaches in the United States.

He has been a private fencing coach since 1987, teaching in both Los Angeles and San Diego and also coaching the University of California, Santa Barbara club team. Previous to that he was the Men's and Women's varsity fencing coach at Stanford University for 8 years and the Assistant Fencing Coach at California State University, Northridge for 3. While at Northridge he obtained Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Physical Education. He is a 1962 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he was a named a First Team All-American in sabre and was a member of Navy's NCAA Champion Fencing Team. He studied theatrical fencing under Maestro Ralph Faulkner of Hollywood, CA and taught an accredited course in stage fencing at Stanford.

He numbers among his current and former students four All-Americans, four U.S. National Women's Champions, three members of U.S. Junior World teams, and San Diego Division champions in all three men's events and in Women's Foil as well.

In 1984 he served as the Competition Manager for Fencing for the XXIII Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

NESTOR ROSARIO, Coach

Coach Rosario is accredited a Moniteur d'Escrime by both the Academie d'Armes Internationale and the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. He has coached for sixteen years and studied under fencing masters in Paris, Venice, and Kiev as well as the United States.

He was the U.S. Junior National Champion in 1982 and has represented both the U.S. and Puerto Rico in international competition. He was a medalist at the 1983 Pan American Games, the 1989 U.S. National Championships, and the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. He has competed in Argentina, Canada, Cuba, France, Italy, and Venezuela.

He teaches all fencing classes at the Cabrillo Academy and in addition gives individual lessons in foil, epee, and sabre.
