Installation Instructions
for 75 Ohm Hard-Line Connectors and Linear Matching Transformers
For best results, please read these instructions all the way through before starting.

You will need the following:
Hack-saw   Single-edge Razor Blade   40 Watt Soldering Iron
Ruler   Pliers   63/37 Solder
Pencil   400 Grit Sand Paper   (2) 3/4" Open-end Wrenches
Tubing Cutter   Aluminum Connection Compound

Prepare the hard-line as follows:

  1. With the HACK-SAW, cut off (square-up) the end of the hard-line.

  2. If the cable has a plastic jacket, add 1 inch (2.5 cm) to the STRIP LENGTH and use the RAZOR BLADE to remove the jacket to this point.

  3. Measure from the end of the hard-line to the STRIP LENGTH indicated. Mark this point with the pencil.

  4. With the TUBING CUTTER, carefully cut through the aluminum shield at the point marked. When making this cut, tighten the cutter only 1/8 turn for each two revolutions of the tool. This technique and a SHARP cutter will prevent the soft aluminum from rolling-in at the cut.

  5. With the RAZOR BLADE, cut through the dielectric, taking care to not nick the center conductor.

  6. Grasp the end of the hard-line with the PLIERS. Hold the hard-line with your other hand on the other side of the cuts. With a twisting motion, pull the shield and dielectric form the end.

  7. Using the SAND-PAPER, remove the burrs at the end of the center conductor and any remaining dielectric from the wire.

  8. Again using the SAND-PAPER, remove the oxides from 1" (2.5 cm) of the end of the shield. Do this only until the aluminum is clean. Removing too much metal will result in a poor connection.

  9. Apply a thin coating of the ALUMINUM CONNECTION COMPOUND to the freshly cleaned aluminum. This will prevent corosion of the connection.
CAUTION:

Over-tightening the compresion nut will deform the shield of the cable resulting in an impedance bump.

Installing FEMALE connectors and SLPICES:

  1. Prepare the cable end as above. STRIP LENGTH = 1/2" (1.25 cm).

  2. Solder the center pin onto the exposed center conductor.

  3. Insert the prepared end of the Hard-line ALL THE WAY into the connector.

  4. Hand tighten the compression nut.

  5. Using the two 3/4" OPEN END WRENCHES, tighten the compression nut 1/3 turn at a time, until the connector will not move on the cable. Tighten the compression nut an additional 1/3 turn.
Installing MALE connectors:
  1. Prepare the cable end as above. STRIP LENGTH = 2" (5.1 cm).

  2. Insert the prepared end of the Hard-line ALL THE WAY into the connector.

  3. Hand tighten the compression nut.

  4. Using the two 3/4" OPEN END WRENCHES, tighten the compression nut 1/3 turn at a time, until the connector will not move on the cable. Tighten the compression nut an additional 1/3 turn.

  5. Solder the center coductor into the center pin.
Installing Linear Matching Transformers:
  1. Prepare the cable end as above. STRIP LENGTH = 1/2" (1.25 cm).

  2. Insert the prepared end of the Hard-line ALL THE WAY into the transformer.

  3. Hand tighten the compression nut.

  4. Using the two 3/4" OPEN END WRENCHES, tighten the compression nut 1/3 turn at a time, until the connector will not move on the cable. Tighten the compression nut an additional 1/3 turn.
