MIKE DOMINY, ALCM
While at the University of Windsor, Mike decided to pursue music as a full-time profession and joined the Canadian Forces in 1972. Mike performed with Canadian Forces Professional Bands in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Victoria as a clarinetist, saxophonist and audio engineer. After a 22-year career, Mike transferred to the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve and in 1994 joined the 5th(BC) Field Regiment Band where he served as principal clarinetist, leader of the Woodwind Quintet, the Band's Master of Ceremonies and as an Assistant Conductor. After a combined 32-year career as a military musician, Mike took up a new role with the Canadian Forces and now focuses his energies on music education and conducting. He is now the Deputy Commanding Officer and music instructor with 3005 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Victoria. In addition to that role, Mike spends his summers at Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre as the Director of Military Bands where he oversees the instruction and musical development of more than 120 cadet musicians. Mike has an ALCM diploma in clarinet teaching and has become a highly regarded clinician within British Columbia. His experiences as the Operations Warrant Officer with the 5th Field Regiment Band combined with his skills as a music librarian, stage manager, equipment manager, audio engineer and public relations coordinator give Mike a solid background in music administration. When he isn't on stage as a performer or conductor, Mike can usually be found at Langford's Isabelle Reader Theatre or at Royal Roads University working as an audio engineer and media technician. During his musical career, Mike has always participated in community concert bands. As a member of the military where an individual could relocate every few years, membership in a community band always instilled a sense of belonging to the local community. Mike takes great pride in being chosen to be the founding director of the Westshore Community Concert Band and hopes this experience will generate many new friendships and a sense of community amongst the members. Mike encourages anyone who is interested in being part of a community musical group to consider joining the Westshore Community Band. For more information contact us at westshoreband@hotmail.com. |
