I believe in a thing called love!
(New layout...been up for a while...want to update it with sexy new pics of Jacob *drool*) Soo, CI2 tonight, all I can say is: I think I want to marry Jacob Hoggard...okay, I lied, I have more to say. But man oh man is Jacob ever sexy. Ahh. Okay, so, in order of performance...Jason: Same old crap. Judges finally noticed. Goodbye Jason.
Shane: Wow! That was out of left field! Well, not completely I guess, I could tell he had a fun side to him after the British Invasion medley but still...He is so cool for singing that song. I didn't know his voice could do that! Okay, so it didn't sound particularly wonderful, but buddy from The Darkness doesn't sound so hot either. That song is not about vocal skill, it's about having fun and performing, and Shane totally pulled it off. Zack has a stick up his ass, he totally missed the point. The only thing I agree about is the shirt, it was pretty bad...
Josh: Ack, this guy is killing me! That's the second week in a row he butchered one of my favourite songs. I don't understand why the judges praise him. I do appreciate that he sings with heart (unlike Jason), but I think his performance style is boring and I don't like his voice. That's a ticket to obscurity...
Theresa: Okay, here I do agree with Zack (except that I'm not a creepy old man who is clearly in love with her...). She's fading fast. She needs to pick better songs. And what was with the outfit? I still like her though.
Kalan: He's capable of more. Still friggin' adorable though. And great song, once again.
Jacob: Oh my. Words cannot describe. Wow. That was quite possibly the sexiest thing I've seen on Idol. The leather. The wifebeater. The hotness. He gets hotter every week (and I say this despite the fact that he was wearing blue eyeshadow last week). This was the perfect week for him to tone down the crazy act and show some substance. Man, did he deliver. I no longer care that he can't really sing that well. He should win. Doesn't matter if he doesn't win though, he doesn't need this show.
Elena: Uhh...okay...what performance were the judges watching, cuz it clearly wasn't this one...I thought it was great, far far superior to her performance last week, and one of the best of the night. She's probably the only one who has a balance of great vocal skill and a great stage presence. Farley is the only judge who knew what he was talking about. I thought Elena did great. Bla.
Kaleb: I think he's the gainer of the week. He lost the whiny voice and just plain rocked. I love how when he sings a song, it sounds like you're hearing a song for the first time. Great, great, great. I kind of want to replace Theresa with Kaleb on this layout. Oh well, they're both good.
So yes. For the love of all things tasteful, PLEASE let Jason be the one knocked out this week. Gaa can't both Jason and Josh leave and we bring back Brandy and Liz Titan or someone actually good? And so what was with the Mulroney/Sass/Jake leather jacket thing? That was rather creepy. Really the only judge who doesn't piss me off is Farley. At least he's intelligent. Sass is stupid, Zack is an asshole (although funny at times), and Jake makes no sense half the time. And maybe if Mulroney stopped layering on self-tanner and dumping entire bottles of hair gel onto his head before the shows he wouldn't be as annoying...blarg. Alright I'm done now. Since when did this become such a CI2 blog.

Something about the way you look tonight
I can't get CI2 performance songs out of my head! I've got Shane Wiebe in my head at the moment, and all day I've had Jacob's Only The Good Die Young and Space Oddity stuck in my head. I suppose it's ok. Man, voters have no taste. How did Shane and Kaleb wind up in the bottom 3? I guess Kaleb is an acquired taste, he's not for everyone. But Shane is super-cute and has a great Clay/Josh Groban voice. Sure, he lacks charisma, and he makes weird facial expressions, but at least he's a quality singer. I guess he's too subdued/"bland" for the teenyboppers. But he's so much better than Jason and his annoying monkey dancing and Josh's overall crappiness. Bah. Well, I just thought I would check in since I never blog anymore... dinner time, woo-hoo, bbq salmon! :D

Woot Clooch and Mo
Ah look I finally blog...Yeahhh, so Cloochie and Mo finally signed, avoiding arbitration. 1 deals for both guys, slight raises. This is Dan's last chance to show what he can do, so I think a 1-year deal was smart for the Canucks, regardless of the lockout situation. However, I do appreciate Clooch's willingness to sign a long-term deal, it's nice to see some loyalty in this day and age. Mo, on the other hand, I would have preferred to have seen locked up long-term, but I suppose there's nothing we can do about it, with the lockout uncertainty and all. At least they won't have to go to arbitration because that benefits no one.
And my latest summer addiction, CI: First off, Jacob and Kalan have to be the Top 2 or people have no taste. Last week Brandy shouldn't have been gone, it should have been Joshua or Jason (ha, wishful thinking, I know). Tonight: What's going on? I thought Idol was supposed to be full of corny, syrupy songs, but there were so many awesome songs tonight! Jacob is incredible. Electric blue spandex catsuit with matching eyeshadow and nail polish. He is my hero. I don't care if he sings like Nick Carter crossed with Mark from Blink. He is not about the singing. Theresa...chose the wrong song. I do still like her though, hopefully she ventures away from this too-safe folksy thing she's done the last two weeks. Jason: just go away. The guy has one schtick. Why do the judges like him? He is annoying, conceited, fake, affected, doesn't have a good voice, and I hate the way he looks. Hasn't anyone else noticed that he's only capable of singing Bryan Adams and Elton John? Urggg crap why does next week have to be rock week... Seriously this guy belongs on Superstar USA. (Was a good song though) Joshua: Ack!! How could he? Where the Streets Have No Name is sacred! He butchered it, I'm sorry. I know he was into it, and I feel bad. But dude, he sucks. On a side note, Clay has been doing a brilliant rendition of that beauty song on his summer tour. Elena: Loved the outfit and hair as usual...I hate Sheryl Crow's version of that song, but I did like Elena's. She wasn't as good as usual but I still enjoyed the performance. Top 5 material fer shizzle. Manoah: Well, from the start I thought her voice/pitch was iffy in the Jasmine Trias way, and it showed tonight :S Good song, SUPER spiffy outfit (love the red fedora! I want it!) but she was unfortunately off. Kaleb: He is so cool because he takes cool rock songs and turns them into his own unique R&B thang. Even though his voice is far too whiny for my liking. Kalan: How adorable is he? Last week he sang a beauty song, Born to Be Wild, and this week he sang another good one. Love the voice, love the look, love everything about him. Such a cutire, Top 2 for sure (can't decide between him and Jacob :P) Shane: *Whew* Huge improvement over last week, when he completely chose the wrong song. Elton John was a good choice, his voice sounded great, and he looked super sexy. Okay I'm done.

O Mighty Niedermayers
So, good ol' Scottie and Robbie want to both come play for the Canucks, eh? Well, I'll have you know that I'm totally, 100% okay with that. Norris Trophy winner/one of my favourite players, and his overrated but solid brother, both want to come back to their home province to finish off their careers? That's the best Canucks-related news I've heard in ages. Man, what a coup that would be! I'm salivating just thinking about. Sure, there are about a million obstacles in the way...like Scott only signing a 1-year deal this year, the UFA age being lowered for Rob next year...the Canucks somehow coming up with the money...it's funny how my usual money standards go out the door when something like comes up. But nah, I do believe that Scott N. is a decent enough guy to accept a pay cut to come play for the Canucks. The dude has already won the Cup twice, won the Norris, made million of bucks, he can sacrifice a fat contract to come play with his bro in his home province and bring home the Cup...ooh, how sweet it would be...*wipes drool off face*
CI schtuff: Yay for Shane getting top votes, ha, maybe Canada does like Clay Aiken, muahaha. A little on the shocked side that Becky didn't even make the Top 3, and even more surprised that she didn't get picked for the wildcard show. Uh, okay... Why did Jason a) make it into the Top 3 and b) get picked for the wildcard show. Sure, he was a good singer, but...boooring. I do like Manoah though. Although I can see her doing a Jasmine Trias (as in, nice voice but...not enough range/control, pitch problems...and getting worse every time). Wildcard opinions: Woo-hoo for my bud's friend Elena. I hope she makes it, she's super fun. I think Liz Titan is amazing, she needs to be in the Top 10. But I really like Raj too, Bernard's pretty cool, so are Ted and Kyla. I can't remember Andrew, I think he was okay...Haha I've created some vendetta against Jason. Meh. If only that annoying Joshua guy didn't make it in from the first group and Raj did instead. Bla. Well, tomorrow happens to be my 19th b-day...although no partying till Friday because I gotta work Thursday morning, hehe.

Not cool
I'm volunteering at a hockey camp this week so life's a little on the hectic side right now. I feel out of the hockey loop. I had to pore over TSN.ca and sportsnet.ca to sort out all I've been missing. The Nuckers made three signings today, Wade Flaherty (minor league goalie, Calder Cup champ this year, ex of the SJ Sharks), Jonathan Aitken (big d-man from the Blackhawks), and Lee Goren (Panthers farmhand, winger with size who scored 27 goals in the A last year). Looks like they're pretty much just looking to stock up the Moose right now, considering the entire team has bolted to Europe...like Brandon Reid!!! I am enraged!! Gaa how could they be so stupid to let him go? Nonis you have let me down. Damn it, for once they make a great draft pick and they let him walk. I don't think they gave Reider a fair chance. I also don't like how they said he was too small, then he went and bulked up and then they complained that he lost his speed. Man, after the lockout, they better snap Reider right back up. I bet they won't be able to get their hands on him though, cuz he's gonna light up the German league and everyone will want him. *fumes* And what's this I hear about both Mo and Clouts going to arbitration (not sure if that's official or not)? What happened to "we want long term deals, we want to stay with the Canucks"? What good will arbitration do for anyone in this situation? *fumes again* Please Nonis, don't let this all fall apart...
I'm also not amused at other goings-on in the NHL...My distaste for the Sens signing Hasek has been well documented. It's kind of funny that Quenneville is back in Colorado. I laugh at St. Louis for stupidly firing him like that, and I'm glad/not surprised Granato is gone, but I'm a little scared that this will re-energize Colorado. But I have to say I'm shocked and rather incensed at the way Craig Conroy has bolted to L.A. I totally didn't see that one coming. If I were a Flames fan I'd be hopping mad. He really didn't seem like the type to just up and run off for the big money, but obviously I was mistaken. Let's put this into perspective here. Conroy just went to the Cup final with an extremely/ridiculously hard-working Flames team with seemingly unbreakable chemistry. They were within one freaking goal of winning the Cup. They show no signs of slowing down. They don't have Carolina or Anahiem written all over them. The future is damn bright for the Flames. Yet. He chooses to leave a great situation in Calgary brimming with potential, and go to a rather crappy LA team just for a better payday. '"It was tough for him to leave Calgary," said Conroy's agent'. Yeah, right. He cried all the way to bank. I'm sure he'll have a hard time adjusting to leading the cushy life in sunny Cali. Sickens me. I thought Conroy was better than that. Perhaps a lockout really is the answer. Oh, wait, this is the NHL and NHLPA we're talking about here, those clowns can't get anything right. Sheesh, I'm cynical today. I'll change my tune if I wake up tomorrow and find that Mo and Clooch have signed long term deals for Brian Burke "dollars that make sense".
Wow, I'm so bitter today! I'll talk about something less emotionally straining...like Canadian Idol :P Ooh, today was interesting. First time there was no one singing a song Clay sang on AI. I missed the first guy, Brock or whatever, in the recap he didn't seem so great though. Danielle wasn't good. I couldn't even figure out what song she was singing until halfway through, and when I finally figured it out, she sounded even worse because I was comparing it. Jason was a good singer but he couldn't sell the performance: too laid back. He just stood there and sang, there was no passion, no intensity. Jermaine was just unfortunate. Ted seems like a really nice guy, he had a surprising amount of soul for someone who looks so...whitebread, for lack of a better term. I liked him, but I wouldn't necessarily want him in the Top 10. Becky was the best performance, she had a super-cool husky voice, and I just love the song Moondance. She was unique and a good performer. The only thing I didn't like was when she got really into it she sounded a little too scream-y for my taste. Manoah I also liked. She had funky hair a good voice. I was surprised she sang such a recent song, but I liked the way she sold the performance. That leaves, yes, Shane. When he was talking about how he brings a "pure" sound or whatever I thought, "Like Clay?". When they showed the 2 second clip of him singing, I thought, "Sings like Clay." As soon as he opened his mouth for his performance I thought, "Very very much like Clay." I liked Shane's voice very much. He really sang the song well, and his gesturing and performing style is quite a lot like Clay. He was cute, too, and had reddish hair which earns him points. And yeah, like the judges said, I also actually felt him singing, my hands literally started vibrating when he hit the big notes. And I knew someone would compare him to Clay...Zack said that he felt like he was "trapped in a Clay Aiken universe"...but oh, what a good universe it is. Yeah, Shane's cheesy. So is Clay. But it's great cheese!! But there's no way Shane has Clay's dorky charm, and I highly doubt he has his range. And I don't think I want him to win (nor do I really think he will), because he is too similar to Clay. But I do want to hear him sing again, so yeah I do hope he's in the Top 10! Oops I forgot to vote for him. Oh well, if he doesn't make it, he'll be on the wildcard show for sure so I'll vote then. And hey, this was way out of left field, but Mulroney was almost funny today. Or maybe I'm just getting used to him *wrinkles nose*...side note: I am not happy with CBS for bumping Clay off the Early Show. Bla. Oh well, I think they've rescheduled it for my birthday! :D
Before I finally leave: For any Sasha Cohen fans out there, please join my new Malaguena program fanlisting! Thank you! :)

Mo-ron
Someone stop Stan McCammon before he destroys the Canucks. First he gets Brian Burke fired because of his own egotistical needs. Now he drives David Cobb away. What is wrong with this guy? Why does John McCaw continue to let this happen? It boggles the mind. It's a damn shame that a team with so much talent and brimming with potential is run by circus freaks. Hopefully the Canucks will win the Cup before everything implodes. Gaa. Things on the free agent front are slow. Hopefully the Nuckers lock up Mo and Clooch soon. Unless they plan on joining the Dominik Hasek sweepstakes *rolls eyes* (please God no...). The Flames re-negotiated a deal with Turek...why, I ask. Just get rid of him, he's terrible. But yeah not a whole lot going on...still lots of big named up for grabs.
Bah, I missed Clay on Good Morning America on Friday. I completely forgot...my brain doesn't function that early in the morning. Thank goodness for the multitudes of websites that have video clips up within the hour ;) Hmm supposedly he'd on PBS tonight for some fourth of July deal. I might have to check that out. My Canada Day was good, it was also my friend's birthday so a bunch of us headed down to English Bay and had a good time. Alrighty, time to hit the gym...

"All sorts of nasty animals we don't have here!"
Sorry I still can't get over Clay on Kimmel. Woo, new layout. You know, last night a 12 year old berated me for liking Clay! It was quite hilarious. Actually the essential reasons for her epic dislike of Clay were some of the very reasons I lurve him so much (dorky, skinny, red hair...).
Anyway, tomorrow is July 1st. That means: Canada Day, 2 of my friends' birthdays...and UFA madness!! Well, maybe not really madness, what with the lockout and all. Maybe there will be some "fiscal sanity" this year (man, I quote Burkie a lot). First things first, the Nucks locked up Matt Cooke, and the ticking time bomb, I mean Brent Sopel, by picking up the $1.325 option. Thumbs up to signing Cookie, one of my favourites. Man did he ever step it up with Bert out. I think he's just going to get better and better. I know he's capable of more. And defensive depth is always welcome, even though Soaps gives me fits because he's the biggest spaz with the puck ever to step onto NHL ice. Arvedson, Hedberg, Rucinsky and Keane are now UFA's. Damn, I wish we could've kept one of Sanderon or Arvedson. Now it looks lime we'll lose both. Sigh. And I just feel bad for Hedberg. Keane, I wish he could stay, but he didn't do too much in the playoffs, where he mattered most. And Rucinsky, I wasn't too attatched, I'll live if he goes elsewhere. About the Nucks and signing UFA's, I know we can't quite afford to be breaking the bank here, but if we were to actually sign one, I'd be thrilled with Anson Carter. That's who I wish the Nucks picked up the deadline. I would've even given up Sanderson's excitement for Carter to be a Canuck. Anyway that's wishful thinking. I also adore Jason Allison, but he's probably too much of a health risk to be spending money on. Paul Kariya...if he wants to get his act together and play for the Canucks for reasonable money I would be willing to forgive him for his Colorado blasphemy :P Why oh why does the CBA have to expire just when UFA's I actually want the Canucks to sign are actually available? Well, I suppose they're available because the CBA is expiring, but still...Otherwise, I really don't think much is going to happen. I think Ottawa missed the memo on the whole lockout/saving money thing. Give it up people, Hasek is old and useless and a dressing room-killer anyway! CHL note: The Giants made actual good picks in the import draft! Andrej Meszaros (Ottawa 1st rounder/Chara clone) and Marek Schwarz (St. Louis 1st rounder/Czech goalie). If one or both come to play here, that would be pretty nice. One thing is for sure, they'll do better than the previous useless Euros that have played for the Giants: Havel, Kovar, Pulpan...never heard of them? There's a reason for that. Also: Triston Grant was drafted 286th by Philly. Go figure. The goon gets drafted but speedy yet small Mitch Bartley gets passed over. Isn't that always the way.
Hey tonight's CI was pretty good! Unlike last week, when there was a sharp division between really good people and downright sucky people, this week was rather even and I enjoyed most of the people. For the third straight week, someone sang a song Clay sang on AI, and again, came nowhere near to matching his performance. Valérie was okay singing Open Arms, but just didn't match up to Clay (I can't avoid the comparison!). Didn't like Constant, Andrew was ok but boring...Bernard had a really nice voice! Wasn't my fave but I did like him a lot. Jerrica was good and sang a good song. I thought Diane was great. but maybe that's because she reminds me of my friend. Jacob was bloody hilarious, I want him the Top 10 for sheer entertainment value even though he's not an amazing singer. My favourite besides Jacob was Theresa. I was really pleasantly surprised by her cool husky voice. She may have been no Fantasia singing Summertime, but she still sang it realy well and I just really liked something about her. She had a unique charm that set her apart from the other competitors. And unlike Jacob, she did it with subtlety and style. If neither of them get through I might have to stop watching this show. And I still want to throttle Ben Mulroney. Speaking of Idol cheese, I finally got my hair cut like Jasmine Trias! The girl may not be able to hold a note but damn, she has good hair! She may even surpass my other uh, hair heros, Kristin Kreuk and Mandy Moore, in that department. Well, my hair may look good now, but once I wash I'll never be able to style this well myself. 'Tis life. :P
