Basic Information & History

We embrace the natural theory of learning: the world is our classroom.

We focus on cultural Dakota Studies and use project learning activities.

Goals include:

(1) Improve math skills through independent learning plans by 0.5 grade equivalent as measured on the California Achievement Test (CAT).

(2) Improve reading skills through independent learning plans by 0.5 grade equivalent as measured on the CAT.

For performance assessments (rubrics and independent learning plans), students must meet the mastery level of 80%. We have not fully implemented standardized testing. Eight students met or exceeded the math goal, and ten students met or exceeded the reading goal. Eighteen students were tested in both fall-and-spring (about half of the students). We have since increased the baseline -- eighteen students met or exceeded the goals last year -- by 41%. Study groups to help improve scores have been established.

Our greatest achievement is renewing cultural interest. We host and participate in commemorative events. Our students are motivated to retain and maintain cultural integrity. We are the first charter to own our own site.

We have a three-story brick structure on 15 acres. In our building we own an antique mall and receive a 25% commission on sales.
