Totally New ?

So you want to build a new website, things may look really hard but that is so not true, you shall discover this within time. now firstly we have to find a program that we can use to build the website. A program called Front Page is good but you may find this too hard. lucky there is a program which you may download for free called homestead, this allows you to create your website without no of the html (plus it is very easy to upload the site on to the internet). if you go to http://www.homestead.com you should be able to set up your account (then they let you download your free website maker). Now Homestead should of took care with most new users but if you insist on going a step higher you should use front page 2000. Now front page 2000 is what i use for my website, its great though its best if you know at least a little bit of html. if you still want to try front page 2000 then its on to the next section (its harder to upload from front page then homestead)

Front Page Uploading

Ok then its time to get a tad more advance. firstly please check if you actually got front page 2000 on your computer, sorry if you have not got it , unfortunately its not a free download like homestead. on frontpage you with start with a blank screen, you should know how to type text and insert pictures (use the insert pictures button) (if you dont then its not best to use this program ... yet) now once you have made your page "save it" anywhere on your computer. front page comes with an upload feature which i could never get to grips with, its way to slow and not very reliable (as i found out the hard way) though there is a great upload program which is free to download ! you can find this program and sites such as downloads.com or you can just click here . Ws FTP (that program what you may of just downloaded) is highly recommend due to its ease of use and effectiveness and not forgetting its speed. now that program you should find easy to use. Now you must have somewhere to upload, i recommend going to Angelfire , they offer more than enough space and has great speed. you may choose if you want a banner on your page or a pop up (i recommend pop up). now once you go to there site site you should see somewhere which says "Sign Up" , click the sign up link. once you have created you account its now time to upload your site using the program what you should have downloaded (click here if you haven't)

Once you have opened the program and installed it you should see screen (see below)

If you used Angelfire then this should be easy for you. where it says profile Name you TYPE IN Angelfire (no need to use the scroll down) , as you can see it asks for your Host Name/Address , delete what ever is there and type in ftp.angelfire.com , the next bit you must know is the User Id, if you joined angelfire they should of gave you this. mine is bc3/digitalrev (if any probs please email me) now on the password field just enter the pass you signed up with. then click ok.

This is what you should see once you have logged in (please note that you will not see the same files listed) now inorder to find your saved page double click the green up arrow (the one on the left not right) and locate the file where you saved your page. once found just highlight it by clicking mouse button on it and then click the button that points to the right and thats it ! uploaded

if you upload file called index.htm , the url would be :

www.angelfire.com/(your 3 letter code)/(now your username)/index.htm

(NOTE when you signed up to angelfire it should of asked you what you want to have as your address , there should of been two text fields one asking you what 3 letter code you want (or name depending on what you picked) i picked bc3 and my username is digitalrev so my index is www.angelfire.com/bc3/digitalrev/index.htm , get the drift?)

there you go you should have uploaded your site (if it keeps saying it cannot recognize your username/password , its angelfires falt , give them 24hours or something)
