A little background of Sunnydale:
Sunnydale has always had a steady flow of odd happenings. It seems to be the center of mystical energy, a crucial mystical upheaval.
Sixty years ago, a very powerful vampire came to Sunnydale, Califoria. He did not come to feed. The vampire that came to Sunnydale, was known as The Master.
The first people to live in Sunnydale were the Spanish. They called the town, 'Boca Del Infierno', when translated to English it means, 'Hellmouth', a portal from our reality to another reality.
The Master had hoped to open the portal and bring all the demons into Sunnydale. He wanted to destroy the world of mankind. But, he blew it. There was a huge earthquake that swallowed half the town, including The Master himself.
Giles believes that The Master got himself stuck like a cork in a bottle. Only once every century comes the night of the Harvest. One night when a Master vampire can feed through his minion to regain his power, as the minion feeds on as many humans as possible, the barrier becomes weaker, and the Master may become free. If his minion drains the blood of enough living humans the Master will become part of our world. ! That`s right, the *undead* do walk among us!
