Our Story

In August 2001, on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus, a landmark conference on Gender, Sexuality and Bisexuality was held. Approximately 100 participants attended from across B.C., Canada and indeed places further away, such as Western US and Europe.

Several people from Victoria were also present and met with one another during the course of the three-day conference. There was a wide spectrum of individuals at the conference -- bi, lesbian, gay, transgender, intersex, Two Spirit and questioning. The fluidity and diversity of experience was thrilling and motivating. So much so that plans were laid for the formation of a novel group to address the unique needs of bisexual women and men, and our allies at Southern Vancouver Island.

In September 2001 we held our first social event, with 40 people in attendance. Since that time, social events have been held approximately bi-monthly (with five to six events per year). Examples of social events include: movie nights, potluck dinners, lazer bowling, day hikes, bar nights, picnics, beach events, etc. We have celebrated holidays together (e.g., Christmas and Hallowe'en).

A few months after our first social event, two women started a support group for bisexual individuals and allies and called it BiVictoria. We joined forces to coordinate the support group meeting and social events into one organization.

Attendance at the social and support group events varies from 3-20 people. To us, it is the quality of the experience that counts -- not the quantity! (A lesson for life.)

Finally, we are open to new ideas and fresh perspectives. So, check us out and give us a ring, why don't you. . . ?
