OBHL, the Orange Ball Hockey League, is a hockey league of many stories. It was started in Early-April by the founders Clint and Carlen who sought out to find a simple, but fun, summer activity for all of their friends.
With their love of hockey, and the NHL, Clint and Carlen decided to try and lift some hockey games off the ground; of which, they haven't done for nearly 5 years.
"It brings back old times and good memories when I was about 10-years old, playing with a few of my friends, " Clint states.
Clint and Carlen, after discussing the fine details, both did everything they could to find people to join and money to buy equipment. Just a short week after the launch of their journey, we were all out practicing in our original location -- "the tennis court," and the OBHL was born.
Our first game in history of the OBHL was held Mid-April, with just three players a side and no organization of teams. Among the players were, on one side: Ryan Rundle, 17, goaltender; Clint Dyck, 17, Defense; and Jeff Dodd, 20 Forward. On the opposing team, there was: Dave Tisdale, 20, Goaltender; Andrew Davis, 19, Defense; and Carlen Varnes, 17, Forward.
There were no winners, as the game ended in a 6-6 tie. Getting points were: Clint, with 1 goal and 5 assists; Jeff, with 5 goals and 1 assist; Carlen, with 5 goals and 1 assist; Andrew, with 1 goal and 5 assists.
One day, Clint hopes to put his hockey knowledge to use and become a professional coach with his dream of someday becoming the coach of his life-long favorite team, the Vancouver Canucks.
