The REAL Newsies strike of 1899

home

The movie was aobut the 1899 strike....but heres what really happened, some of the real newsies, and a little bit aobut the rally.

Here are some REAL newsies:

Morris Cohen: He was one of the leaders of the strike, he helped get it organized. Before the strike, when he sold papers he sold about 300 papes a day in the park.

Boots McAleenen: He got quoted in the New York Times about what the strike was aobut. The older newsies were proud of him...since he was only eleven!

Kid Blink: He's another on of the strike leaders. He was blind in one eye, and he was the best at making speeches.

Spot Conlon(yes their really was a skinny Brooklyn leader): He was head of the Brooklyn newsies(you all know that) Someone the papers made the point of mentioning that he wears PINK SUSPENDERS!

Crutchy Morris: He couldn't walk that good so that helped him sell papers.

Warhorse Brennan: He was the oldest newsie.

David simons: He was the president of the Union.

Racetrack Higgins(I wonder if the real Race was a hot as Max): He got his name because he spent most of his time at the racetracks. He organized the big rally at Irving Hall.

Mush Meyers: He was a smart kid. He figured out how to get at a scab when he was standing by a bull.
