I gave my dad this movie for Father's Day, but I hadn't yet watched it myself. So tonight I decided to give it a try, even though I don't like Tom Hanks and the previews for it didn't really appeal to me.
I was a little suprised at the lack of action in the film. I'm not really an action-freak, but I just figured that this particular one would have more going on. I guess there's only so much you can do when there's basically only one character in the whole movie. Which leads me to another point. Since Tom Hanks' character (Chuck) was the only person on the island, I guess they had to create someone or something else for him to talk to. This is where the washed up volleyball comes into play. Although the psychological implications of creating a relationship with an inanimate object are rather interesting, the obsession Chuck developed for his little volleyball friend (aptly named Wilson) was a little much. First he paints a face on the ball with blood, then he starts saying the odd comment to it, eventually they become inseparable buddies sharing whole conversations. The volleyball might as well have been listed as a member of the cast.
