Caux Conference
Agenda for Reconciliation - Peace Building Initiatives
July 31 - August 5, 2001.
The Swiss Foundation for Moral Re-Armament invited representatives of
civil society, dignitaries of religious communities as well as ombduspersons
from both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Caux conference “Peace-building
initiatives” held between July 31 and August 5, 2001.
The seventeen participants were given an extraordinary opportunity to
exchange views and discuss crucial issues related to the future of Bosnia
and Herzegovina - issues of reconciliation and building of a lasting peace
in the inspiring atmosphere of the Mountain House.
The following was adopted as conclusions of the Workshop on Bosnia and
Herzegovina:
-
A truth seeking process is the key prerequisite for reconciliation and
is of utmost importance for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
-
Participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and from abroad who were present
at the Conference - Workshop wholeheartedly support the initiative to establish
Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
-
Justice and rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are to revive
hope and restore human dignity, can only be achieved through combined activities
of the local judiciary, International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague and
the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
-
The participants emphasize the need of active involvement of citizens,
religious communities, media and non-governmental organizations in the
preparatory work related to establishment of the Commission.
The participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina express their sincere gratitude
to the Swiss Foundation for Moral Re-Armament and to its staff, in particular
to Mr. Pierre Spoerri and Mr. Heribert Scharrenbroich, for a warm welcome
and support.
Our special thanks go to Dr. Cornelio Sommaruga, the Foundation’s president,
and to Dr. Christian Schwarz-Schilling, International Mediator for BH,
for their active participation in the workshop and for their generous encouragement.
