My Thoughts on Stuff[ARCHIVED]

The 'D' Logo

Now it's time to hear some of my thoughts(yes, I do have thoughts!), and as a little bonus for those of you bored enough to follow the little link, some quotes from me and other people.

I can't recall if I mentioned this on the other page about me, but I have done a little philosophical reading. How did I end up doing this, you might ask? It's a long story, but one I will now commit to html before it fades from my memory forever. It all started back at the end of Grade 8...

It was course selection day, and I, then young, idealistic, and full of optimism split Art 9 with CAPP 9. Not too long after, I was called down to the counseling office by the intercom. My counselor, Mr S, informed me that I could not split CAPP with Art because I had English and Math Honors on my timetable. Damn! I had a private art teacher earlier in the year because I was in band and had no room for Art in my Grade 8 timetable. So I was left in Keyboarding with a woman name Ms B. An aura of doom surrounded me, for I had always despised keyboarding and was never especially good at it. After a half-semester of CAPP, which was no problem, I went on to keyboarding. As I discovered, my typing skills were actually better than I had thought, and I could do speed tests at 40 WPM- 33% over the course requirement. However, as is almost always the case, I never had the incentive to type at these zephyr-like paces. Why? Because in this class, if I finished a typing excersize before the others, "Oh, that's nice, Kevin, so do it again now while you're waiting." I could hardly stand it... although I must admit it helped my speed and I can now type at around 50 WPM on most days. But one day, Mr A took me and one of my classmates aside, a girl who could type even faster than I. "You guys know what? I heard that this class is too easy for you so how 'bout doing some enrichment with me?" I of course accepted, and was thusly freed from the dread typing excercises. Every day during C Block I would head over to B101 and read books. Not the shit you get in English to do a book report on, but interesting stuff. I read about the Holy Roman Emporer Frederick Barbarossa (Red Beard, also the name of a pirate and a nazi military operation). I read a book on the work of Pythagoras. Finally Mr A handed me a book called "Sophie's World". I read it and found it fascinating. This book was about a girl named Sophie who lived somewhere in Europe, if I recall. As the story went, she began recieving letters from a mysterious man. He would send her letters and slowly explained the history of philosophy. This was the beginning. As I went on, Mr S, it turned out, was into this stuff, and even managed a philosophy club at our school, which I had never previously known existed.

Whew. That was long. i never knew I could write such a crapload. That took me less than half an hour, and now I think you get some quotes, from me and other people. Ummm... I can only think of one right now, so send them in.

  1. "...Don't quote me on this, but..."-Me
  2. This spot could be yours, so send good quotes.

Anyway, I seem to recall implying the provision of hints as to my thoughts on various topics. Yes. Well I wrote a lot of essays on various topics last year, but seem to have lost them all, so I have to start fresh. I think that how I am going to organize this is with a short list of random things and my thoughts on them and and links to longer essays/rants on this page. And here we go with the list-thingy again...
