A little bit about myself.....
Hi! My name is Karen, and I thought I'd take this chance to tell you a little bit about myself! I was born and raise in Port Moody, a suburb of Vancouver. I still live in the same area. You gotta love it here.... nice weather and always a view of the mountains.

My grandmother in Manitoba taught me how to crochet in 1997, while I was on a trip to the farm to visit her. She taught me just the basics: ch, sc, dc.... that's it! I went home and tried to crochet.... but I wasn't very good. I couldn't figure out how grandma made such beautiful afghans from scratch.... without a pattern. So, wanting to be a better crocheter, I picked up a copy of a crochet magazine, got some books from the library, and went at it.

Now, I found those stitch diagrams confusing as H**.... being left-handed and all. But, I just stuck with it, and in no time I had finish my first few projects.

Having three small kids at home (three boys, ages 8 months, 2 1/2, and 4 1/2) keeps me rather busy! I tend to stick to small projects. Seems that between myself and my friends, I've been able to keep busy making baby items!

I have just ventured into the world of designing, and, true to form, am sticking to small things. I particularly like 6" granny squares, as I'm participating in a 6" square exchange right now. I had to promise my husband that I wouldn't join TOO many exchanges!

My wonderful husband, Erich, and I have been married since 1994. It's been a hard road, but filled with joy and lots of growth! You know the old saying "That which does not strike us down......."!

My other big passion is teaching piano! I have been playing piano since I was about 7 years old, and started teaching during my senior year in high school. I have been truly blest to have a job that I love, and that allows me to stay home with my kids. I recently received my Grade 10 certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto). It was a lot of hard work (read: practicing! which I'm not overly fond of!), but well worth it.

My plans for the future include becoming a published designer, writing my own piano method book, and finishing all my WIM's (works-in-mind)! The more free patterns I find on the internet, the longer my WIM list grows!
