  Dainty Doily Square
I made this square because I like the look of thread dolies, but don't have the patience to make them! Using white sport weight yarn (as in my example), this would make a really nice beadspread or even a baby blanket for a little girl. Or, you could use worsted weight yarn in aran or camel for a very pretty afghan!
Sport Weight yarn
Hook size 4.00
(use a larger hook with worsted weight)

Special stitches: V stitch (abb. V st): (dc, ch 1, dc) in stitch indicated.

RND 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring, sl in back loop of 3rd ch of beg ch.

RND 2: (working in back loops only) ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch

RND 7: sl in next 2 st, (ch 4, dc) in same st (counts as first V stitch), sk 2 st, V st in next st, sk next st, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch 2 sp: corner made, *sk next dc,  V st in next st (sk 2 sts, V st in next st)4 times, sk next st, work corner in ch 2 sp, rep from * 2 MORE times, sk next st, (V st, sk 2 sts) 3 times, join with sl to ch 3 of beg. ch 4.

RND 8: ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in each dc & ch 1 sp, working 3 sc in corner ch 2 sp. join with sl to first sc. Finish off

Note: to make a bigger square, simply work more rounds of sc, working 3 sc in each corner (I like doing this in the back loops only)
