Collect biological data on marine fisheries for National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)
Marine mammal, fish, invertebrate and bird identification
Record incidental takes of short-tailed albatross and collect specimens
Record takes of marine mammals and collect canine teeth from pinnipeds (except walrus), and tissue samples from cetaceans
Record fishing effort and catch information
Sample randomly selected hauls for species composition and collect additional biological data on prohibited species
Determine densities and catch weights for vessel haul backs
Collect sex-length frequencies and otoliths from appropriate predominant species
Record marine mammal and marine bird sightings (location, interactions, activity)
Collect samples and data on incidental catch of marine mammals and birds
Send data from vessels regularly to the NMFS Observer Program in Seattle
Documentation of compliance infractions and suspected violations
Complete various assigned special projects (mackerel tagging, stomach collection etc.)
Live aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea
