We breed Shar Pei dogs

The Shar Pei is certainly one of the worlds most unique dogs in appearance as well as rarity. As a puppy the skin cascades in a mirriad of deep wrinkles all over their bodies in a comical manner. As the dog matures, he will grow into his wrinkles although the skin will remain loose with a bristly horse coat. The eyes are almond shaped set in deep folds below the forehead wrinkles. The head the shape of a hippopotamus with a broad flat skull, small ears and facial hair of the softest velvet a distinctive blue black tongue and half moon tail lend them an appearance of a Chinese Character. Their disposition can be calm, dignified, elegant, arrogant and proud, with great loyalty. An excellent family pet living up to the standard you set for him. Affection ever belying his fierce appearance. With the antics of a clown and the elegance of a bold warrior he will steal your heart and your socks. He is a bandit, collecting all the things belonging to you that he can carry to his special spot or mat.

The Shar Pei puppy snores. This will fade with maturity. I have never found this to be offensive and find them to be well behaved beside the bed sleepers. Enhancing the natural guard instinct this gives him a place of trust and importance and he knows it. They also have natural herding and guard dog instincts. A wonderful pup, a delight to have around. A happy puppy. He will sit calmly like a gentleman while you mix his dinner, he will walk by your side, sit at your feet, sleep by your bed if you let him. He has a heart as big as all outdoors. Talk to him. He will understand you. Calmly show him anything he is not sure of, assure him it is nothing to be uneasy about. Tell him "That's all right".
His mat can be a piece of rug or towel that can be washed easily, he will rumple it from time to time. Everything will be taken to his mat, toys, biscuits and stolen articles of every description. He loves to carry things, he will retrieve a ball, play tug of war or be content to entertain himself. Never slap a Shar Pei in anger, you have his trust and respect, slapping will only cause him to become indifferent to you. They have a memory beyond compare. If he does anything to displease you, put your hands under his chin on either side of his face, look him in the eye and tell him "NO" or "DON'T DO THAT". You won't hurt his feelings, he will give you a kiss and romp off like a large pyjama bag to find something else to do. Free running in the yard will help to build the muscle he needs. He will grow to be a powerful dog.
