Objectives
Circulation is defined as the process by which nutrients, gases and metabolic products are transported throughout a living organism, and the circulatory system of the whale does just that. Whales have a closed system of circulation, meaning there is an intake of materials (in this case, oxygen), the materials are transported throughout the system and the un-needed products are excreted through another system. The circulatory system is a complex network of communication & distribution to all the body tissues. A constant supply of oxygen is needed to sustain the life of a whale. Oxygen is transported by red blood cells which contain hemoglobin. Hemoglobin keeps the blood's thickness minimal which allows circulation to be more efficient. The blood leaves the heart and passes through branched vessels throughout the body. Next
