First off I would like to thank the people at Adam Oates website for setting this interview up. The website people were responsive and polite, cant ask for more than that. Adam Oates has long been my favorite non-Sabre. I enjoyed watching his great playmaking skills way back in his playing days in Beantown. He also has great character on and off the ice. I have always wanted Adam to land in Buffalo and who knows, maybe he will one day. This is the interview I wrote to Mr. Oates.(WR indicates my question)
To Adam: Iam a true Sabres fan but I have enjoyed watching you play as long as I have been watching hockey. I loved the Sabres-Bruins rivalry. I have been pulling for you to come to the Sabres. Well here are a few questions.
(WR) Can you please explain to me the feeling of being drafted into the NHL?
never drafted!... signed as free agent 6-28-85
(WR) Describe your greatest hockey moment.
in college, winning the National Championships with RPI, and with the NHL,the first game with the Wings.
(WR) Did you have sour grapes when you left Boston?
NO!... I love Boston and wish the Bruins well, and have friends in the Bruins organization and in Boston.
(WR) Are you happy with the Caps? Do you feel the team is capable of a serious playoff run while you are there?
Yes, hopefully we can duplicate what we did in 98.
(WR) When do you honestly think you will hang-them-up?
As long as I am productive, hopefully I will have a place in the NHL.
(WR) With the recent retirement of Gretzey, and soon to be Hasek, is the game losing some of its marketing?
Maybe nobody will duplicate TGO, but there will always be rising stars.
(WR) What are your opinions on the Sabres?
They are a very disciplined well coached team that is always hard to play against.
