WWE
ECW
July 15, 2008 – recap by Sassy
NOTICE:
Unfortunately I happened across a site that gave me a play-by-play review of
Friday Night’s Smackdown taping for this week.
I don’t think so!
I’ll be watching something else…I’ll try again next week and hope
the show is better than what WWE is planning on airing this Friday.
Last week on ECW
In an impromptu tag team match, Finlay &
Hornswoggle defeated John Morrison & The Miz, WWE Tag Team Champions, in 9
minutes.
Making his WWE ECW debut, Braden Walker (formerly Chris
Harris of TNA) defeated Armando Estrada in 6 minutes.
Evan Bourne defeated Nunzio in 4 minutes.
In the main event, Tommy Dreamer with Colin Delaney
defeated The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry.
Hall of Fame member Tony Atlas appeared as the Special Guest Announcer in
this match up.
WWE’s ECW is broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel from
Charlotte, NC
Ringside announcers: Mike Adamle & Tazz
Ring announcer: Tony Chimel
The audience sees a video of last week with Tony Atlas being
the special guest announcer in the match between Tommy Dreamer and Mark Henry
with Atlas siding with Henry to beat down Dreamer and Delaney.
Tazz is in the ring to introduce The World’s Strongest
Champion, Mark Henry, who is accompanied to the ring by Tony Atlas. Tazz tells
Henry that next Sunday at Great American Bash, Henry will defend his title
against Tommy Dreamer. Tazz asks Atlas why he has joined with Henry. Atlas says
that he wouldn’t carry just anybody’s bag, but he would carry the bags of
the champion Mark Henry. Atlas says they are going to have a demonstration of
Henry’s strength. Atlas has a frying pan in his hand. Atlas asks for somebody
who thinks they are strong to come to the ring and try to bend the frying pan.
Atlas picks a member of the audience and he enters the ring. Jack from North
Carolina tells the audience that it is a real frying pan. Jack tries to bend the
frying pan but he can’t do it so Atlas sends him back into the audience. Henry
takes the pan and bends it, not quite like a pretzel, but you get the idea.
Tommy Dreamer appears and heads toward the ring. Tazz tries to keep Dreamer out
of the ring but Dreamer says he is saving the fight for Sunday when he takes
Henry’s championship. Dreamer wants to try to bend the pan, too. Henry hands
Dreamer a pan but he can’t bend it, so he nails Henry over the head with it.
The pan did bend. We go to commercial break.
Theodore Long, WWE ECW General Manager, tells Dreamer he is
sending him home to get ready for his match on Sunday.
Mike Knox from Phoenix, AZ weighing 293 lbs.
Vs.
Shannon Moore from NC weighing 204 lbs.
Moore may be the audience favorite but he’s up against mean
Mike Knox who doesn’t do much in the way of wrestling. Moore better plan on
staying off the mat and in the air but Knox doesn’t waste any time sending
Moore to the canvas. Moore goes after the legs and goes up to the top
turnbuckle, delivering a hurricanrana. Moore goes for the cover but Knox kicks
out. Moore gets slammed to the canvas, Knox goes for the cover and gets the
three count and the win. Time: 3 minutes.
Winner: Mike Knox
I like Shannon Moore in the ring but do have to admit that
Knox is working his way into a better heel role.
Raw Rebound – Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels & Y2J Chris
Jericho are fighting, Kane loses it and tries to do in CM Punk JBL tries to kill
John Cena after the initial announcement from Shane and Stephanie McMahon. We go
to commercial break.
Chavo Guerrero from El Paso, TX weighing 215 lbs.
With Bam Neely
Vs.
Evan Bourne weighing 183 lbs.
It’s nice to see Bourne getting full matches in WWE.
Guerrero is fast but Bourne can move with the speed of lightning and Guerrero
may need Neely to help him out. Bourne goes for an earl cover but Guerrero kicks
out. Guerrero knocks Bourne off the top turnbuckle and down to the floor. Back
in the ring, Guerrero goes for the cover but Bourne kicks out at the count of
two. Bourne delivers a couple of high kicks, goes for a standing moonsault and
then goes for the pin but Guerrero again kicks out. Bourne comes off the top
with a shooting star, goes for the cover and gets the three count.
Using the brains of a much more seasoned wrestler, Bourne bails out of
the ring after the bell in order to avoid being caught by Neely as Neely enters
the ring. Time: 4 minutes.
Winner: Evan Bourne with a shooting
star press
Evan Bourne has a lot of wrestling talent and, as I said
before, he is fast. This was a short match but a good match in spite of Chavo
Guerrero wanting to cheat his way to a win.
Atlas and Knox are backstage intimidating Colin Delaney.
Henry picks Delaney up and throws him on a locker of some sort. Long’s
assitant, Tiffany, checks on Delaney and runs presumably to get help. We go to
commercial break.
Main Event
Non-title Match
John Morrison & The Miz at a combined weight of 450
lbs.
WWE Tag Team Champions
Vs.
Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy from Cameron, NC
At a combined weight of 461 lbs.
Great job of booking for North Carolina -- Matt and Jeff
Hardy together again. Before the match can begin, we go to commercial break.
Back to the action, the match is already underway as Matt and Miz are battling
it out in the ring. The chants of
“Hardy” are loud and clear. We go to commercial break in the middle of the
match. Jeff delivers a Swanton bomb, Matt goes for the cover and gets the three
count and the win. Time: 7 minutes.
Winners:
Matt & Jeff Hardy with a Swanton bomb
Matt and Jeff do a great job as a tag team. Although Miz and
Morrison are the champs, Matt and Jeff do a better job as a team.
