CROSS THE LINE

KAREN’S RETURN

iMPACT is broadcast from Universal Studios, Orlando, FL on the Spike TV Network

Ringside announcers: Mike Tenay and Don West

Ring announcer: David Penzer

Ringside valet: SoCal Val

Backstage interviews: Jeremy Borash, Crystal Loutham and Lauren

Does that mean we are foregoing wrestling action for more sappy storylines?

Consequences Creed from Atlanta, GA

Vs.

The Phenomenal AJ Styles from Gainesville, GA

Referee: Rudy Charles

Dare I say it? Wrestling action may actually be continuing on TNA’s iMPACT. I spoke too soon. We have a camera on Kurt Angle sitting in a chair in the parking lot. While in the ring, we have moves and counter moves between the two competitors. I should also point out that Mike Tenay and Don West are talking about everything BUT the match going on in the ring. Styles delivers a dropkick, springboards into the ring, Creed gets out of the way and Styles lands feet first on the mat. Creed goes for the first pin but Styles kicks out. Creed tries to springboard off the ropes but Styles catches him in midair. Creed comes back and goes for the cover but Styles kicks out again. Creed did a roll across the ring but was slow getting back to his feet. Styles goes for a splash but Creed moves out of the way and Styles meets the ring post. Styles catches Creed with the peleg and finishes with the Styles clash, goes for the cover and gets the three count. Time: 5 minutes.

Winner: The Phenomenal AJ Styles with a Styles clash.

Creed appears to bring a lot of speed and talent to the ring. Styles has always had that but he hasn’t been doing much in the way of really wrestling lately.  I got the impression that Creed was a little tentative throughout the match.  Although it was not a long match, it was interesting to see Creed and Styles as opponents in the ring. Instead of turning this into a battle against two wrestlers who trained together, it turns into a race to the back to continue the storyline.

Jeremy Borash shows up, with a mic in his hand, to tell Styles that Angle is waiting for Mrs. Angle in the parking lot.  At least he didn’t show up during the match and we go to commercial break.

Brother Ray representing Team 3D from New York City

Vs.

The Instant Classic Christian Cage from Tampa, FL by way of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Referee: Andrew Thomas

Cage enters the arena watching behind him. We go to commercial break before the match begins. Back to the ring, the bell rings but Ray is not yet in the ring. Cage opens up with fists and Cage is much faster than Ray but he gets caught in a back body drop. Cage delivers a cross body block and then climbs up to the top turnbuckle again but Ray catches Cage this time. Cage bites Ray to make him back off and then delivers a frog splash and goes for the cover, getting a two count. Cage appears with a Kendo stick. Cage takes the stick away. Ray grabs Cage and he has the Kendo stick. The ref tells him not to use the stick but Ray smacks Cage with the stick and the referee rings the bell. Time: 2 minutes.

Winner: The Instant Classic Christian Cage via disqualification.

After the match, Tomko and Brother Devon bring a glass table into the ring and set it up. Ray sends Cage through the glass table. There is one trainer tending to Cage and three refs standing around. Kaz and Eric Young appear.  I hope they know first aid. We go to commercial break. I don’t recall Kaz and Eric Young being a part of Cage’s regular stable.  Have they decided to align themselves with Cage?

Tenay and West replay Cage going through the glass table before commercial break. JB is backstage with Big Sexy Kevin Nash and asks him about his match tonight with Booker T. Samoan Submission Machine Samoa Joe appears to wish Nash the best of luck and to make fun of Nash’s bad knees. Nash says that the match he has tonight is mental, not physical. Joe says he might be sitting at ringside and maybe he will learn something.

Kong, Saeed & JB appear to challenge someone in the audience, a female who is over the age of 18. We go to commercial break.

$25,000.00 Challenge Match

Awesome Kong

With Raisha Saeed

Vs.

Danielle from Buffalo, NY

Referee: Slick Johnson

This fan isn’t doing as well as the fan who took on Kong last week. The fan who was in the ring with Kong last week is in the audience. She gets in Kong’s face and Kong shoves her backward before going back at Danielle. Kong delivers the Awesome bomb, goes for the cover and gets the win. Time: 2 minutes.

Winner: Awesome Kong with an Awesome bomb.

Kong makes eye contact with Shantelle Taylor from the audience. Taylor enters the ring, Saeed gets in her way and she takes her out and Security enters the arena to break the two women apart in the ring. Saeed is back to her feet and Jim Cornette is at ringside in the middle of the mess. Cornette tells Taylor that she can’t just jump in the ring. Taylor asks for a match with Kong or for a match against Saeed.  Cornette takes Taylor backstage to talk about it.

The audience sees interviews with Angelina Love and Gail Kim about their days in wrestling in Canada and we go to commercial break.

We are supposed to have a Tag Team World X Cup Match but Frank Trigg appears and enters the ring with a mic.  Why?  I have no idea and I’m not sure any of the fans care but I do wish he would get the hell out of the ring and let the X Cup Match go on. Trigg calls Styles out to the ring. Styles is backstage watching on a monitor with what’s her name and JB.  Styles says he is going to the ring. On a split monitor, Angle is backstage with his Mrs. and the Beautiful People are with him. A scuffle ensues and Styles bails out of the ring as the Beautiful People put a brown paper bag over the Mrs.’s head and we go to commercial break – not nearly soon enough.

Team International appears at the top of the entrance ramp: Daivari, Alex Kozlov, Tyson Dux & Doug Williams

Team TNA appears at the top of the opposite ramp: Kaz, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley & Curry Man.

World X Cup Match

Tag Team

Naruki Doi

&

Masato Yoshimo

Representing Team Japan

Vs.

Ultimo Guerrero

&

Rey Bucanero

Representing Team Mexico

Referee: Shane Sewell

Team Japan is quick. Both teams do some great teamwork. Team Mexico has awesome timing. Right on target suicide dives through the ropes delivered by Team Japan. I should be describing this match more but it’s difficult to write and watch the action in the ring. Team Japan goes for the cover, the referee is slow to get down to count because one member of Team Japan was still in the ring. Team Mexico delivers a suplex off the top turnbuckle, goes for the cover but it gets broken up. Team Mexico goes for the cover and gets the win. Time: 6 minutes.

Winners: Team Mexico

I can live with this kind of wrestling. Again not a long match but a great job by both teams, Japan for the speed, Mexico for the perfect timing.

World X Cup Standings

Team TNA                                           1 point

Team Mexico                                     1 point

Team International                             0 points

Team Japan                                        0 points

SoCal Val and Black Machismo Jay Lethal are backstage for an interview. Without going into detail, the wedding has been postponed and we go to commercial break.

The audience sees a video of Latin American Exchange and their match coming up with Robert Roode & James Storm at Victory Road.

The Guru Sonjay Dutt appears who brings little gurus with him to the ring. Dutt says that they are giving for the Save Val Foundation. I don’t recall Gurus doing tent revivals. Dutt could use a few dance lessons. Val appears on the entrance ramp but Lethal comes running down the ramp and goes after Dutt. This must be “The Wedding is Off” revenge match. Dutt makes it out of the ring and hides behind the little gurus leaving Lethal in the ring. JB is backstage with Booker who wants to show JB his new dressing room. It’s a little hard to look at, everything, including Booker’s robe, is bright red. Booker goes on a tirade about how great Booker is in the ring and how bad Nash is in the ring and we go to commercial break.

TNA’s Rough Cut with Matt Morgan who is talking about playing basketball in school. It is nice that Morgan was in sports in school but isn’t this wrestling? Angle & Tomko are backstage with JB. And we’re back to the Karen/Kurt storyline. Brother Ray and Brother Devon appear so that Devon can run down Kurt’s Mrs. Tomko seems to think it’s funny and now Ray is going to give Angle his black book. Prepare yourself, wrestling fans….in lieu of wrestling, TNA will now present The Dating Game.

Bimbo Brawl

Moose from Hazard, KY

Vs.

O.D.B. from Minneapolis, MN

Referee: Andrew Thomas

That’s what I like about ODB.  Moose brings an entire shopping cart to the ring full of weapons.  ODB brings a shovel, a flask and a helmet. ODB goes for a semi early cover but Moose kicks out. Moose delivers a shot with a hockey stick, goes for the cover and gets the two count. ODB delivers a fall away slam and then goes for the shovel.  I think the shovel is pink. Shovel to the gut, the back and the head, ODB goes for the cover but Moose kicks out at the count of two. ODB misses a dive off the ropes and meets the mat. Moose delivers a DDT on the steel chair on the mat, goes for the cover and gets the three count.  Time: 6 minutes.

Winner: Moose with a DDT on the steel chair

I can’t believe ODB lost the match! I’m surprised that TNA is having hardcore matches between the women wrestlers but this match was a great change in women’s wrestling.

The fans see a video of the relationship between Joe and Nash and we go to commercial break.

Main Event

No DQ Match

Booker T from Houston, TX

Vs.

Big Sexy Kevin Nash from Detroit, MI

Referee: Earl Hebner

The match begins with a lot of show and no go. Nash uses some power to shove Booker into the corner as Joe appears and talks to the ring with a steel chair to take a seat and watch the match. Nash sends Booker out to the floor and goes out after him. Nash is spending too much time making eye contact with Joe. Nash’s game should not be on the floor – he takes too much time getting back into the ring and it costs him. We go to commercial break. Back to the action, Booker and Nash are back on the floor and Booker’s face is busy checking out the steel steps outside the ring. This time Nash makes it back into the ring without being caught. Nash goes for the cover but Booker kicks out. Nash goes for a clothesline but Booker ducks and catches Nash with a high kick. Nash makes his way out of the ring and Booker comes out after Nash. Booker goes to Joe and tells Joe to give him the chair. The ref gets in the middle and Booker walks away but Booker shoves Joe off the chair and nails Joe in the head with the chair. Joe is down and Booker is back in the ring with Nash.  The chair has gone missing.  The chair is back and Booker nails Nash in the back with the chair. Booker goes for the cover but Nash kicks out at the count of two. Nash back to his feet and Booker nails him with the chair but Joe is in the ring and he goes after Booker. Joe chases the ref away and as Joe goes for a kick, Joe nails Nash instead, Booker goes for the cover and gets the three count.  Time: 8 minutes.

Winner: Booker T

After the match, Nash is back to his feet and he gets in Joe’s face but Security hits the ring and holds them back.  While I prefer the one on one feud, this is quickly turning into a three-way feud between Booker, Nash & Joe. Booker & Nash are veterans of the ring, Joe is younger, quicker, and tends to take more risks and the one thing between the three of them is the TNA World Heavyweight Title.
