April 8, 2008 Ė recap by Sassy
tenants at an Atlanta, GA residence found a box in a hidden space containing
steroids and paycheck stubs belonging to Mike Knox of the WWE ECW Roster. Knox
is claiming the drugs are not his and WWE released a statement indicating there
were four wrestlers living in the residence at the same time and only Mike Knox
was on the WWE roster.
Last week on ECW Ė
Mike Knox defeated Stevie Richards in one on one action.
Big Show defeated Colin Delaney.
In the main event, The Big Red Machine Kane, WWE ECW
Champion and CM Punk, MITB winner defeated Chavo Guerrero and The Gold Standard
Shelton Benjamin in a tag team match.
ECW is being broadcast from Boston, MA
the Sci-Fi Channel
Ringside announcers: Joey Styles & Tazz
Ring announcer: Tony Chimel
Joey Styles informs the audience that tonight The Big Red
Machine Kane and Chavo Guerrero sign their ECW Championship contract for the WWE
Backlash pay per view.
The Miz from Cleveland, OH, weighing 231 lbs.
One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions
Accompanied to the ring by John Morrison, his tag team
CM Punk from Cleveland, OH, weighing 222 lbs.
Audience favorite: CM Punk
My favorite: CM Punk
This should be a slam-dunk.
Punk is a much greater talent in the ring than Miz. Morrison is at the
announcerís table assisting with the commentary Ė about John Morrison.
Punk breaks clean at the refereeís request and the brave
Miz sticks his head through the ropes anyway. You show him how tough you are,
Miz! Punk shows the us some razzle-dazzle early in the match. He uses some nice
moves that are smooth. Miz, of
course, uses Punkís hair to get apply a side headlock. Punk delivers a drop
toehold and doesnít break his hold but goes to work on Mizís leg much to the
joy of the live audience. This fan is liking what Punk is doing to Miz. Miz
catapults Punk over the top rope. Punk hits the ring apron with his ribs and
then hits the floor. As Punk is up on the ring apron, Morrison stands up and
distracts Punk giving Miz the opportunity to send Punk off the ring apron and
into the announcerís table. Punk canít get back in the ring without being
attacked by Miz and Miz goes for a cover but canít get the three count. As Miz
has Punk down on the mat, the audience begins their ďCM PunkĒ chants and
Punk tries to fight back and does, delivering a kick to Morrisonís face. Punk
springboards off the top rope and takes down Miz but before Punk can go for the
cover; Morrison is up on the ring apron. Another distraction costs Punk and Miz
takes Punk out then goes for the cover. Punk manages to kick out before the
three count. The ref decides heís seen enough of Morrison for one night and
throws him out of the arena. The audience loves the ref for that move. Miz looks
worried even though he has Punk down on the canvas and we go to
BREAK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MATCH!
Miz is still in charge of the match, slamming Punkís head
on the mat. Miz again goes for the pin and still canít get the three count.
Come on, Punk. Kick his butt all over the arena! Miz goes for the cover again
and gets a two count. The audience is still on Punkís side and they tell him
so and Punk manages a roll up but he gets a two count. Miz goes for a cover and
gets the two count. Punk makes his way back to his feet and they do a little
criss cross on the ropes and hit each other with clotheslines. Both men are down
and the ref gets to the count of eight before they are back to their feet. Punk
comes up fighting and Miz doesnít stand a chance. Punk delivers a power slam
and goes for the cover. Punk gets another two count. Miz goes for the cover and
gets a two count. Miz pulls Punk up by the hair and Punk delivers a high kick to
the back of the head, hits him with a high knee, takes him down with a bulldog,
nails the GTS and this time Punk gets the three count.
A nice opening match and it beats the heck out of the matches
on Raw last night. Punk is good no
matter who his opponent might be and I grudgingly admit that Miz made Punk look
even better in this match up.
Armando Estrada is backstage and Colin Delaney and Tommy
Dreamer enter. Colin asks Estrada for a contract but Estrada says he isnít
going to give him a contract. Dreamer steps in and says that Colin doesnít
want Estrada to give him anything. Colin wants to earn his contract. Estrada
says that he will give Colin a chance tonight to get a WWE contract in a match
against Colinís good friend, Tommy Dreamer. If Colin wins, he will get his WWE
contract but if Dreamer goes easy on Colin and lets him win, then Dreamer is
fired. Then Estrada says that if Dreamer loses, he is fired. If Colin wins, he
gets the contract.
WWE ECW General Manager Armando Estrada is in the ring.
Estrada announces the contract signing for the ECW Championship at Backlash.
Estrada introduces first the challenger, former ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero who
comes to the ring with Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins, Edgeís Edgeheads. Chavo
doesnít arrive dressed for action, but Ryder and Hawkins do. Estrada then
introduces the new ECW Champion Kane. Kane is also dressed for action, with his
newly won title in his hand. The two wrestlers sit across the table from each
other but when Chavo puts his feet on the table, Kane is on his feet, knocking
Chavoís feet off the table. Estrada has to call for order. Estrada asks Kane,
as Champion, to sign the contract first. Kane signs but before he can get the
job done, Chavo tells him that if Kane signs that contract he is handing over
the ECW title. Kane tells Chavo that he is awfully confident for someone who
lost the ECW Championship in just 8 seconds (he did, I saw it). Chavo says that
Kane cheated and attacked him from behind but at Backlash, Kane wonít be able
to do that because Chavo is going to have someone watching his back. Some guy in
a suit and tie enters and gets up on the ring apron. As Kane approaches him, all
four men attack Kane, taking him out with the title belt. They put Kane up on
the table and Chavo climbs up on the top turnbuckle. Chavo delivers a frog
splash and Kane goes through the table. Chavo then signs the contract. And Kane
has two cuts on his forehead.
NOTE: FCW wrestler Justin "The Ox" LaRouche
has been identified as the friend of Chavo Guerrero.
Elijah Burke from Jacksonville, FL, weighing 235 lbs.
Nunzio from NY, weighing 170 lbs., who is already in the
Audience favorite: Iím not sure
My favorite: I like them both
Is there any reason Colin Delaney canít wrestle Nunzio for
his WWE contract? I can bet those two could put on a great match.
Nunzio is actually wrestling and so is Burke for a few
seconds. Burke gives up on the wrestling part and decides to manhandle Nunzio
instead. Nunzio does fight back but he isnít making much headway. Burke goes
up to the second rope, comes down with an elbow and goes for the cover but Burke
only gets a two count. Nunzio is back on his feet and he manages to take Burke
down but then gets caught in a German suplex. Burke picks Nunzio up, delivers a
short arm clothesline, goes for the cover and gets the win.
Elijah doesnít look too happy after the match but I
couldnít tell if it was because he was trying to play super heel or if he was
aware that the audience didnít get too involved in the match. It was a short
match and not nearly as exciting as the first match of the evening.
Domino from the Other Side of the Tracks, weighing 230
Kofi Kingston from Jamaica, weighing 218 lbs.
Audience favorite: Kofi Kingston
My favorite: Iím not sure
Kofi takes his time getting to the ring because he has to
stop and greet the fans on his way to the ring. These two men have completely
different wrestling styles. Kofi is a high flyer and a quick wrestler. Domino is
more of a brawler in the ring.
Domino takes off his shirt and throws it at Kofi. Kofi
responds by taking Domino down to the canvas. Kofi comes off the ropes with a
cross body block and goes for the cover. Kofi gets a two count. Kofi goes for
the cover again and gets another two count. Domino uses the hair to take Kofi
back into the corner. Domino catches Kofi in midair and face plants Kofi on the
mat, goes for the cover and gets a two count. Domino has Kofi up on his shoulder
but Kofi manages to use the ropes to kick himself over and down to the mat. Kofi
comes back at Domino with a few kicks and leaps, delivers the double leg drop
kick to Domino. Kofi comes up with a high kick, goes for the cover and gets the
Eve Torres and Kelly Kelly are backstage when Layla
approaches. For whatever reason, Layla decides to threaten Eve, and none too
soon we go to
Styles tells the audience that next week on ECW it will be
Kane and The Undertaker on ECW.
Colin Delaney from Rochester, NY, weighing 172 lbs.
Tommy Dreamer from Yonkers, NY, weighing 260 lbs.
Audience favorite: I think they like them both
My favorite: I like them both although I donít think
Colin has had a chance to strut his stuff in the ring yet.
Estrada is sitting outside the ring in order to watch the
match. Colin is quick in the ring but Dreamer has a nice size advantage. The
match starts out as a wrestling match with Dreamer showing the fans that he
hasnít forgot what wrestling is about. Colin goes for a roll up but he
doesnít even get a one count. Estrada is giving Dreamer lip from ringside as
Dreamer tosses Colin across the ring. Tommy charges at Colin, Colin pulls down
the top rope and Dreamer goes over the top rope to the floor. Colin delivers a
double kick to Dreamer as he stands up on the floor then springs over the top to
take Dreamer down again with a cross body block. Both men are now down on the
floor. Colin tries to get Dreamer rolled back into the ring then springs over
the top rope and goes for the cover but he still canít get a one count. Colin
goes for another roll up but Dreamer kicks out. Both men are back to their feet
and Dreamer sends Colin up over his head to the canvas. Dreamer goes for the
cover and gets a one count before Colin gets a shoulder off the mat. Dreamer
sets Colin up on the top turnbuckle and climbs up, but Colin shoves Dreamer back
to the mat. Colin dives off the top turnbuckle with what appears to be a drop
kick, but Dreamer steps out of the way and Colin meets the mat. Dreamer again
sets Colin up on the top turnbuckle and hangs him upside down. Dreamer goes
across the ring and delivers a slide kick. Dreamer nails Colin with a DDT, goes
for the cover and gets the win.
Dreamer gives Estrada a dirty look but Estrada is all smiles
and even stands up to applaud for Dreamer. I was a little surprised the audience
wasnít as into this match. It wasnít the greatest match I have seen Dreamer
work, but it was a decent match.
