iMPACT

February 21, 2008 – Recap by Sassy

I still have not watched Against All Odds. I have been sick – some virus that’s going around - I did start to watch it but then along came Angle’s Mrs. screeching at the top of her lungs and I couldn’t take it.  I swear I’ll watch it this weekend and have the play-by-play review online.

TNA – We are wrestling

Previously on iMPACT…trouble for a new alliance: Samoa Joe and Christian Cage) after Christian is found on the locker room floor and Joe must face Tomko and AJ Styles with Kevin Nash as his partner and Kurt Angle interfered in the match (Samoa Joe has declared war on the Angle Alliance); Team 3D fails to make their weight: Brother Ray could not meet the 275 maximum weight standard and Brother Devon was forced into a handicap match (Devon wins after Ray nails one of Devon’s opponents with the scale); a new freak makes her presence felt when Rhaka Khan appears at ringside with Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner at his match against Maple Leaf Muscle Petey Williams; a dramatic return when Rhino appears to challenge Cowboy James Storm to an Elevation X match at the next TNA pay per view; an assist gone wrong when Gail Kim appears to aid O.D.B. in her match against Awesome Kong and __________ (ODB nails Gail when Kong moves out of the way); more stress for Showtime Eric Young when he faces Rellik with not one but two scary masks; a craving for vengeance as Booker T sat in the parking lot waiting for Robert Roode to appear at the iMPACT Zone (Roode was a no show) forcing Jim Cornette to give Booker T something better to do next week by putting him in a match with Kurt Angle; and matrimonial mayhem when Kurt Angle and his Mrs. attempted to renew their wedding vows, were rudely interrupted by Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash and the minister inadvertently married Karen Angle and AJ Styles.

“ALLIGATOR HONEYMOON”

(Don’t say it, wrestling fans, allow me –

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!)

The show opens with the old Mr. and Mrs. Angle fighting about what happened last week with JB getting involved and being threatened by Angle for getting involved. The fight seems to be about Angle being angry about the kiss from AJ and the Mrs. being angry because she never gets any attention. Angle tells her to take her drama to her other husband. Whatever, Kurt.  The fans would just settle for her shutting the hell up..

Welcome to the iMPACT Zone

iMPACT is broadcast from Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida.

Ringside announcers: Mike Tenay and Don West

Ring announcer: David Penzer

Ringside valet: SoCal Val

Backstage interviews: Crystal Loutham and Jeremy Borash

Mike Tenay tells the audience that this week we will have the fallout from the renewed wedding vows last week plus an exclusive interview with Rhino.

Don West tells the audience that this week O.D.B. and Gail Kim will team together and Booker T will face Kurt Angle one on one in the main event.

TNA Tag Team Championship Match

Kip James

&

Bullet Bob Armstrong

Representing Voodoo Kin Mafia

Challengers

Accompanied to the ring by BG James who is on crutches

Before the champions are introduced, Tenay shows the audience a film clip of BG James injuring his leg at Against All Odds.

Kip James comes to the ring fashionably dressed in green wrestling attire.

Vs.

The Phenomenal AJ Styles

&

Tomko

Referee: Rudy Charles

Before the match begins, Tenay tells the audience that last week Tomko not only cut all ties to The Instant Classic Christian Cage and has now aligned himself with Kurt Angle and the Angle Alliance. AJ Styles, however, may have issues with Angle after the wedding oops last week.

The bell rings and Bullet Bob faces AJ in the center of the ring. You have to admit Bullet Bob moves around the ring very well for someone older than the other wrestlers in the ring. Bullet Bob tags in Kip and he sends AJ to the other side of the ring to tag in Tomko. Kip and Tomko face off in the ring, exchanging blows before Kip sends Tomko down to the mat. AJ enters the ring and comes after Kip, catching him with the peleg. Kip crashes to the canvas. Both men are back to their feet but Tomko catches Kip with a clothesline. At this point, the camera pans the entrance ramp and who else but Angle’s Mrs. appears on her way to the ring. Tomko goes for the cover but only gets a two count before Kip kicks out. Tomko has Kip in a headlock but Kip makes it back to his feet, ,using elbows to the abdomen to back Tomko up. Kip hits Tomko with a neck breaker. Kip tags in Bullet Bob who is met by Tomko and AJ. Bullet Bob holds his own until AJ uses a thumb to the eyes. Tomko and AJ go after Bullet Bob but he gets out of the way and AJ and Tomko crash into each. Kip enters the ring as the referee is busy with Karen Angle where else but on the ring apron. Kip calls to BG for his crutch and BG hands it in. Kip appears to be after AJ or Tomko but instead he nails Bullet Bob in the back. Kip throws the crutch to the mat as Tomko goes for the cover and gets the three count.

Winners

The Phenomenal AJ Styles

&

Tomko

Who retain the TNA Tag Team Titles

After the match, BG James enters the ring to face Kip, but Kip nails BG in the injured leg and takes the crutch to slam it over BG’s back.

Crystal is backstage with O.D.B. and Gail Kim and she asks about the communication break down they had last week. Gail tells Crystal that tonight the two of them are back on the same page. O.D.B. tells Crystal that she has to give that broad (Gail Kim) some credit, O.D.B. will go through anybody and she means anybody to get to Kong.

AJ and his new Mrs. enter. Crystal asks AJ about the kiss last week and AJ tells her that he just got caught up in the moment. AJ says that the two of them aren’t married, but Karen says that they are. AJ wants to know if Kurt knows about this and if it is even legal. Karen tells AJ he needs to worry about the honeymoon. AJ says he has the perfect place and they leave to make a phone call.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, promo for TNA’s live events “On the Road to Destination X”.

Tenay reminds the audience about what occurred between Kip and BG James before the commercial break.

Crystal is in the back with Kip James but Kip is angry and tells her to shut up and then proceeds to tell the audience that he just got rid of a 250-pound bag of BLEEP. Kip has a heck of a cut over his right eye. I think Kip may have just challenged BG but I’m not sure.

In the ring are Jim Cornette, Matt Morgan, The Guru Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machineguns. Cornette says they are there for a special interview segment.  He then introduces the subject of the interview, which is Black Machismo Jay Lethal. Tenay shows the audience the match at Against All Odds which Lethal won after his two partners were taken out of the action. Lethal again became the X Division Champion. Cornette tells Lethal that he deserves special recognition for his accomplishments in TNA. Cornette says that Lethal saved the X Division against Team 3D. Cornette says that Lethal has made his mark in TNA wrestling. Lethal takes the mic and tells the audience that at Against All Odds, Jay Lethal has gotten his smile back. Lethal says that he could have done it on his own and there are a few people he would like to thank: The founders of the X Division (Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn, AJ Styles), Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machineguns who were his partners at Against All Odds, Lethal says it is a privilege to stand in the ring with his best friend, Sonjay Dutt (Lethal gives Sonjay a hug), and then Lethal thanks SoCal Val.

Val enters the ring and Lethal says there is something he has wanted to ask her for a long time – he gets down on one knee and asks her to go out with him. She says ooooh yeah! Lethal then hugs Val. (Sonjay doesn’t look too happy with the Lethal – SoCal Val alliance, but it beats the heck out of the wedding mess last week.)

Crystal is backstage with Kaz. Tonight Kaz has a match against Rellik. Kaz calls Rellik “Relish” and it says all of his problems with Black Reign/Dustin began with a match against Rellik when Eric Young bursts in and tells Kaz he is glad that he caught him. He says that Rellik, killer spelled backwards, is a real life monster and Kaz can’t go out there. Eric gets so excited that Kaz slaps him. Kaz says Rellik is just another wrestler and Kaz can handle it.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, West plugs TNA live events in SC, VA and KY.

Crystal is in Cornette’s office with Samoa Joe and Cornette is still trying to get Joe to sign his contract in a locked office where they can’t be interrupted. Joe, in sunglasses, tells Cornette that he wants to be world champion and he wants a fair title shot. Samoa Joe says that at Destination X, Joe, Christian Cage and Kevin Nash will take care of the Angle Alliance and then Joe will get his fair title shot. Joe says that after he has secured his title shot and after he has become champion after Lockdown, he will affix his signature to the contract.

Rellik from Salem

Vs.

Kaz from Anaheim, CA

Referee: Slick Johnson

The mask(s) Rellik wear certainly don’t look comfortable. Rellik gets busy as soon as the bell rings strong arming Kaz but Kaz comes back with his quick moves. Kaz delivers feet and forearms, then clotheslines Rellik over the top rope. Kaz slingshots over the top rope and takes Rellik down to the floor. Kaz sends Rellik into the guardrail surrounding the audience but as Kaz charges after him, Rellik gets a boot up to nail Kaz. Rellik picks Kaz up and sends him into the guardrail, then picks him up and rolls him back into the ring. Rellik is back to strong-arm tactics.

Tenay interrupts the match to tell the audience that JB will have a camera so that we can follows AJ and his new Mrs. on their honeymoon.  Can it get any more disgusting than that? Maybe I shouldn’t ask.

Back to the match, Kaz is working to get control in the ring and Kaz manages to flip Rellik over and get the three count.

Winner

Kaz

After the match, Black Reign enters the ring and it’s a double team with Kaz being worked over in the ring. Eric starts down the entrance ramp but he stops as security enters the ring to protect Kaz. Eric goes to the ring after Black Reign and Rellik have exited.

Crystal is backstage with Booker T. She asks about his match tonight with Angle tonight. Booker T says that he will be ready for his match tonight in spite of his upcoming with match at Destination X against Robert Roode.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, promo for TNA’s Destination X pay per view live on March 9, 2008.

The Monster Abyss video and the Barbed Wire Massacre II match at Against All Odds against Judas Mesias. Abyss left the arena last week before his match against Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner. Tenay says they still do not have an answer to their question – why did Abyss walk out of the iMPACT Zone? No one seems to know where Abyss might be at this time.

Three Way X Division Contest

To determine the Number One Contender for the X Division Championship

The Guru Sonjay Dutt from Bombay, India

Vs.

Johnny Devine from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Vs.

Maple Leaf Muscle Petey Williams from Ontario, Canada

Referee: Earl Hebner

As the bell rings, Petey and Devine face off, Sonjay joins in and it appears that Sonjay and Petey are working together. That doesn’t last long and as the match is underway, Big Poppa ;Pump Scott Steiner and Rhaka Khan enter the arena. Devine goes for a cover but he doesn’t get the three count. Devine then argues with the referee about the count. Devine is really handling the other wrestlers in this match up until Sonjay and Petey again work together. Petey sends Sonjay out to the floor and tries to pin Devine before Devine kicks out. Outside the ring, Scott nails Sonjay over the head with his briefcase. Inside the ring, Petey has Devine on the ropes. Petey delivers a kick to the back as Rhaka gets on the ring and distracts the ref, Scott distracts Devine, Petey gets the roll up and the win.

Maple Leaf Muscle Petey Williams

With a little help from Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner and his newest Freak

After the match, Scott and Rhaka get in the ring and he shakes Petey’s hand. Petey will now face Black Machismo Jay Lethal for the X Division title.

We go to the camera JB is carrying as he travels along with AJ and his new Mrs. to what appears to be a restaurant. AJ has brought a candle, which he lights – and then burns himself. He has flowers, which are fake and a snow globe. AJ’s snow globe said he never had snow in Gainesville, GA. Since he prayed for snow and never got any, his Grandmother gave him the snow globe so that he will always have snow. AJ tells his new Mrs. that as long as she has the snow globe, she will always have him. He then yells to the waiter for their honeymoon meal of steak and gravy.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, the interview with Rhino. Tenay asks Rhino about his absence from TNA. Rhino said he needed to walk away for himself. Tenay asks Rhino if he blames Cowboy James Storm for his absence but Rhino says he made his own choices. Tenay asks Rhino about the Elevation X match that he and James Storm have at Destination X. Rhino says that Storm will fall at Destination X.

Crystal is backstage with Curry Man and Shark Boy. Curry Man speaks to the audience in Spanish. When Crystal asks Shark Boy what Curry Man just said, Shark Boy says that he doesn’t know what Curry Man said. Shark Boy tells Curry Man he doesn’t care what language he speaks as long as he goes out to the ring ready to whip someone’s ass and that’s the fishin’ line because Shark Boy says so.

Tag Team Match

Shark Boy from The Deep Blue Sea

&

Curry Man from Japan

Vs.

Brother Ray

&

Brother Devon

Team 3D

Accompanied to the ring by Johnny Devine

Referee: Slick Johnson

Before the match, Earl Hebner enters the ring with scale in hand and we go to

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, Ray is preparing to get on the scale. Ray steps up and Hebner says Ray has weighed in under 275. Devon now steps on the scale and Hebner tells Devon he weighed over 275. Ray calls Devon a fat bastard and asks him how he can do this to him. It is now a handicap match. Devon tries to go up the entrance ramp and Ray tries to talk to Devon but Curry Man goes after Ray. Ray works over Curry Man until Curry Man delivers a jawbreaker. Devine and Devon get up on the ring apron and distract the ref allowing Ray to deliver a low blow to Curry Man. Ray throws Curry Man out of the ring and Devon works over Curry Man on the floor before rolling back into the ring. Ray keeps Curry Man in the ring, keeping him from tagging in Shark Boy. Curry Man finally manages to roll across the ring and make the tag. Shark Boy goes after Ray and goes for a pin but only gets a two count. Shark Boy keeps Ray down with boots to the chest before the ref makes him break. Shark Boy hits Ray with a neck breaker and goes for the cover, Devine enters the ring and Shark Boy comes across and sends Devine out to the floor then goes over the top to hit Devine with a cross body block. The ref’s count is interrupted and Shark Boy doesn’t get the win. Devon rolls in on the other side of the ring with the scale. Shark Boy catches Devon with a stunner and goes for a cover but Ray picks up the scale and nails Shark Boy in the head, then goes for the cover and gets the three count.

Crystal is backstage with Kurt Angle. She asks Angle about his match tonight against Booker T which is their first encounter in TNA but she asks how he feels about his wife and AJ. Angle says AJ and his new wife can have each other because the most important thing to Angle is the gold around his waist. Angle says he will beat Booker T tonight and then tells Crystal to get the hell out.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, promo for www.tnawrestling.com.

Tenay sends us to JB with his camera. AJ and his new Mrs. are at Pearl’s Smokehouse to eat gator. AJ is going to go gator wrestling just for her. I guess TNA got tired of picking on little defenseless domestic rats. They have graduated to poking alligators with lawn implements.  Who WRITES this crap? Because JB and the Mrs. don’t like gators, they go to find birds.

Tag Team Match

The Pride of Tennessee Miss Jacqueline

&

Roxxi Laveaux of New Orleans, LA

Before their opponents are introduced, Tenay reminds the audience that Kip James fired Roxxi after a match.

Vs.

O.D.B. from Minneapolis, MN

Accompanied to the ring by her little silver flask

Before O.D.B.’s tag team partner is introduced, Tenay show the audience footage from last week’s Street Fight Match between O.D.B. and Awesome Kong and the miscommunication between O.D.B. and Gail Kim.

&

Gail Kim from Tampa, FL

Referee: Rudy Charles

Unfortunately for me, I like all four women in the ring. All four of them are great in the wrestling ring whether they are baby faces or heels. I’m going to have a real problem deciding who to cheer on during this match up. ODB does offer Gail a nip from the flask before the match begins but Gail declines. The bell rings and Jackie faces off with in the middle of the ring. Jackie has the most experience of the four but Gail is darned good and quick. Jackie has enough of Gail and tags in Roxxi allowing Gail to take her to the opposite side of the ring to tag in ODB. The audience is into ODB as Jackie nails her the back. ODB turns around to face Jackie allowing Roxxi to sneak in behind her and take another shot. ODB is down on the wrong side of the ring as Roxxi tags in Jackie and we have a double team with ODB getting taken down. Jackie goes for the cover, but she can’t get the three count. Jackie decides to try punching on Gail with the ref trying to get her to stop and we go to

COMMERCIAL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MATCH!

WHERE ARE WE, WWE?

THAT’S ONE!

Back from commercial break, ODB and Roxxi are in the middle of the ring with ODB going for a roll up. Roxxi breaks free and goes for a cover but Roxxi doesn’t get the three count. ODB delivers a high kick to Roxxi’s head and then tags in Gail but the ref who was busy on the other side of the ring didn’t see the tag and stops Gail from entering the match. In the meantime, Jackie and Roxxi pull ODB over to their side of the ring and Jackie is beating down ODB. Jackie throws ODB across the ring by her hair. Jackie does it again and ODB looks a little angry. ODB delivers a kick to Jackie’s back and sends her into the ring post. ODB manages to tag in Gail as Jackie tags in Roxxi. Gail is in the ring with both women, taking them both down but Roxxi manages a shot to the back. Gail takes Roxxi down to the mat and goes for the pin but Jackie enters the ring and breaks the count at two. ODB enters the ring and sends Jackie down to the floor outside the ring. Gail goes up to the top turnbuckle to deliver a dropkick to Roxxi in the ring, Roxxi pulls ODB in front of her and Gail nails ODB with the dropkick. Jackie grabs ODB by the legs and pulls her outside the ring as Roxxi goes for the cover inside the ring and gets the three count.

After the match, the audience sees a replay of the end of the match. ODB is back in the ring with Gail and ODB is not happy. We have a shoving match in the middle of the ring, which turns into an exchange of blows. The ref hits the ring to try to stop the fight and then security enters the ring to break them apart but security seems to have a problem controlling the two women. Gail comes off the top turnbuckle and takes down ODB and two security guards on the floor with a cross body block. The two women then fight their way toward the back.

Crystal is backstage with Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash and Christian Cage. She says that the match for Destination X has been set.  It will be the Angle Alliance – Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Tomko – against Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash and Christian Cage. Christian Cage tells Crystal that last week he was getting ready for his match with Samoa Joe against AJ Styles and Tomko when he turned around and saw AJ Styles with a steel chair. Christian says he doesn’t remember much after that but a couple of days later he gets a phone call and that call was from Big Kev to tell him about the match they have at Destination X. Christian says that at Destination X this unlikely alliance ends the Angle Alliance. And if you don’t know, now you know.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, another promo for Destination X.

Tenay tells the audience that JB has just sent word the honeymoon is about to come to a close and naturally TNA has to have a camera there. They go back to AJ’s room but AJ doesn’t invite his new Mrs. in.  He does tell her that if she really was his wife, every day would be a honeymoon. This prompts Tenay to tell the audience it appears AJ’s new Mrs. has fallen for him.

Main Event

Non-title Match

Tenay informs the audience Jim Cornette scheduled this match to prevent Booker T from waiting in the shadows for Robert Roode to appear in the iMPACT Zone.

The bell rings and Angle spends the first few minutes of the match trying to avoid contact with Booker T. Booker finally locks up with Angle and gets his down on the mat but Angle gets a foot on the bottom rope forcing Booker to break the hold. The audience is chanting “Booker T” as Angle takes Booker down by the hair. We have a few actual wrestling moves going on here with Booker showing his skill in the art of wrestling. Booker picks Angle up and delivers a leg lariat and Angle hits the mat again. Booker goes for the cover and gets a two count before Angle gets a shoulder up. Booker delivers a suplex and again goes for a cover and gets a two count. Booker is now working on Angle’s left arm but Angle retaliates with fists. Angle sends Booker into the ropes and delivers a belly-to-belly suplex as Booker comes off the ropes. Angle has Booker in a waist lock. Booker delivers elbows to get Angle to break the hold. Angle sends Booker through the ropes and out onto the floor. Angle goes out after him. Angle picks up Booker and sends him face first into the steel steps and we go to

Back from commercial break, both men are back in the ring as Angle sends Booker to the mat with a body slam. Angle goes outside onto the ring apron and climbs up to the top turnbuckle as Booker T struggles to get back to his feet. Angle takes too long coming off the turnbuckle giving Booker time to deliver a shot to Angle. Booker climbs up the ropes and takes Angle to the mat with a superplex. Both men back to their feet as Angle sends Booker into the ropes but Booker comes off the ropes with a shot that sends Angle back down to the mat. Booker delivers a snap suplex and then a side slam. Booker is on his feet, he picks Angle up but Angle delivers a fist to the midsection and then comes off the ropes. Booker catches Angle coming off the ropes and drive him back down with a spine buster. As Booker comes back at Angle, Angle tries for the ankle lock but Booker breaks free and delivers a kick to Angle’s head. As Booker comes off the ropes, Robert Roode appears on the ring apron. Booker T goes after Roode forgetting all about Angle in the ring. Angle nails Booker in the back and delivers an Olympic slam, going for the cover and getting the three count.

Winner

Kurt Angle

With a lot of help from Robert Roode

After the match, Roode takes off his jacket and comes in to beat on an already down on the mat Booker T. Angle joins in to assist Roode in the beat down. The ref tries to get them out of the ring but he gets pushed back. Christian Cage charges down the ramp and into the ring going after both men in the ring. We have another two on one as Angle and Roode go after Christian. Angle continues to work on Christian as Roode goes back after Booker. Booker blocks the punch sent by Roode and delivers a fist of his own as Samoa Joe hits the ring to assist Christian Cage. Booker sends Roode out to the floor and sends him headfirst into the guardrail as Kevin Nash enters the ring. Booker and Roode fight their way toward the back as Angle makes it out onto the entrance ramp and Tomko appears. Nash asks for a microphone and asks Angle if he is running his mouth. Nash then tells Angle that next week it’s Nash versus Angle one on one in a match. Tomko appears to be holding Angle back from getting back in the ring with Joe and Nash. Nice try, Tomko, but I don’t think Angle would get back in the ring with either of these two men let alone both of them in the ring at the same time.
