CHARLOTTE, NC - One of professional wrestling's all-time great "good

guys," Johnny Weaver, passed away Friday at his home in Charlotte.

Weaver, born November 17, 1935, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, was a

favorite of wrestling fans during the heyday of the National

Wrestling Alliance. His wrestling career spanned more than four

decades and included wrestling, matchmaking, broadcasting, and

working in the front office. After the local wrestling promoter, Jim

Crockett Promotions, soldout to Ted Turner's WCW in November 1987,

Mecklenburg County

Sheriff C.W. Kidd gave Weaver a job with the Sheriff's Department, a

position he held until his untimely death.

Affectionately known as "The Dean of Professional Wrestling," Weaver

had recently accepted an invitation to be inducted into the NWA

Wrestling Legends' "Hall of Heroes" this August in Charlotte. The

dinner banquet and awards ceremony is part of the annual NWA

Wrestling Legends Fanfest, and Weaver will indeed be honored and

inducted posthumously later this summer.

Weaver is survived by a daughter, Wendy, from Charlotte.

Yugi Nagata suffers possible stroke (Wrestling Observer)

Posted on 2/17/108 by Bob Magee

Dave Meltzer reports this afternoon on Wrestling that two time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yuji Nagata was rushed to the hospital earlier today when he showed up at Tokyo Sumo Hall for the New Japan Pro Wrestling show complaining of severe head pain, and no control of the left side of his body.

Nagata was said to be speaking clearly, with no damage to the right side was fine. Nagata said he had severe headaches two weeks ago but continued to wrestle and never got them checked out. Doctors at the show thought he may have suffered a stroke.

LATEST UPDATE - February 18, 2008

Good news today coming from Japan. Yuji Nagata's MRI results revealed no brain abnormalities but he will be undergoing several more tests over the next day, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Nagata had a dizzy spell and lost usage of his left side while training yesterday afternoon. He was preparing for a scheduled match with Hirooki Goto at Sumo Hall in Tokyo. It was feared the Japanese icon had suffered a possible stroke.

Another Independent Promotion Closes Its Doors

Israeli wrestling promotion to shut down‏

Steve Gerweck - Friday, February 15 2008

First and only pro-wrestling promotion in Israel announces shut down:

IPWA Summer Splash VII this summer will mark our final show. After WWE and TNA had to cancel their tours in Israel I could not find anyone willing to invest in pro-wrestling events in the country, not to mention Israeli pro-wrestling events. Therefore, I have decided to close down the promotion and present our fans with a final and very special Summer Splash show. (It should be noted that we do plan on running one or two more shows prior to Summer Splash). We hope that there will be somebody in the future that will have enough guts to establish another promotion that will allow Israeli wrestlers to showcase their talent on the proper stage with appropriate reward. I thank all our great fans for their support throughout the years.

With Regards,

WWE developmental wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr. arrested for DUI in Tampa, FL (

Posted on 2/15/108 by Mike Informer

Million Dollar Man's Son Charged With DUI In Tampa

The Tampa Tribune

Published: February 15, 2008

TAMPA - Ted DiBiase Jr., the 25-year-old son of WWE wrestler Ted "Million Dollar Man" DiBiase, was arrested in South Tampa early this morning, charged with driving under the influence.

Tampa police took DiBiase into custody about 3:30 a.m. after a crash on South West Shore Boulevard at Browning Avenue.

Police said DiBiase was in a Cadillac sport utility vehicle that crashed into another vehicle. Information about the other vehicle or driver was not immediately available. No one was seriously injured, police said, and no one required hospitalization.

DiBiase had an odor of alcohol on his breath, his speech appeared to be slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he was unsteady on his feet, police said.

He was asked to perform a field sobriety test and had "indications of impairment," according to an affidavit signed by the arresting officer.

DiBiase submitted to a breath test, and the results on two tests were 0.137 and 0.138. In Florida, a driver is presumed to be impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher.

According to Online World of Wrestling, DiBiase and his brother, Mike, are the third generation of the family in wrestling. His grandfather, Mike DiBiase also made his living from the sport.

The World Wrestling Entertainment Web site says DiBiase Jr. wrestles in a developmental league in Florida.

Ted DiBiase Sr., reached this morning at his home in Mississippi, declined to comment. He said he had not heard of the arrest.

Records state that the younger DiBiase was taken to Orient Road Jail. Bail was set at $500.

Report on Georgia State Legislature efforts to pass wrestling regulation legislation

Posted on 2/14/108 by Larry Goodman

February 12, 2008

Representatives of Georgia wrestling got their opportunity to address members of the Georgia Senate today during a hearing held by the Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities on SB 413, the bill to regulate wrestling.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over. However, based on comments made by President Pro Temp of the Senate, Eric Johnson, the bill’s primary sponsor and a member of the RIU Committee, there is a zero chance of the bill in its original form making it to the Senate for a vote.

Johnson repeatedly stressed that it was not his intention to put independent wrestling promotions out of business. He called the bill “a work in progress,” noted how well informed the primary spokespersons for the wrestling side were regarding the bill, and requested a copy of the 12 rules proposed the by the Georgia Wrestling Promoters Advisory Committee.

The wrestling side also did what they do best – they entertained. One lobbyist called it the most entertaining hearing the RIU Committee has ever had the privilege of hosting.

The case for the bill was presented by Deputy Secretary of State Robb Simms and Kelly Farr, Executive Director of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. Simms said while the State clearly understood that wrestling was choreographed, they were concerned about the lack of any medical screening and lack of blood tests to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Simms made it clear that one of the driving forces was to remove the exemption granted to WWE under the current statute. Simms said the State had done their due diligence based on regulations in 26 other states. He discounted the possibility of WWE steering clear of Georgia, noting WWE was planning events in 12 other regulated states during 2008.

Farr was subjected to pointed questioning by Senate Majority Leader Tommie Williams, who was clearly not favorably inclined towards legislating more government. Farr claimed to have knowledge of a recent incident in which a twelve year-old participated in a wrestling show. Farr defended the 5% gate tax on the basis that it allowed the GAEC to keep the up front licensing costs lower, therefore making it less of a barrier to the promoters. Williams wanted to know if there were other entertainment forms that should be regulated. Farr said he could not intelligently address the question.

Johnson outlined the major points of the bill: the removal of WWE’s exemption, $1,000 licensing fee for promoters, attending physician and ambulance at all events, surety bond, and $50,000 life and health insurance policy. Johnson said the 5% tax was already in the law (only for boxing and MMA but not wrestling). Johnson noted that the rules related to the entertainment aspects of pro wrestling proposed by the GAEC were banned. He acknowledged that the section on referees had to be revised as it pertained to pro wrestling. Johnson also noted the high death rates among professional wrestlers. Farr quoted the cost of the health insurance as $2,250-2,750 per show.

Johnson emphasized that the bill defined an amateur as any wrestler earning less than $100 per match. Therefore, promoters paying wrestlers less than $100 would not be subject to regulation. Johnson indicated that the $100 figure was not set in stone.

John Taylor, the lawyer representing WWE in Georgia, was the first spokesperson for the wrestling industry. Taylor addressed the issue that the bill made no distinction between boxing, MMA and pro wrestling. He said the State had not done any fact finding. He said the SB 413 had no constituency except for the regulators. He likened it to meter maids lobbying for more parking meters. Taylor got heat from Johnson for talking about the referee stuff, after Johnson just got finished saying it would be revised. Taylor apologized. One of the Senators accused Taylor of trying to be entertaining.

Taylor strenuously objected to the language that allowed the ringside physician to suspend a wrestler on the spot with no appeal, using Ric Flair as an example. Taylor said Georgia was on the short list for WrestleMania in 2009 and 2010 and intimated that they wouldn’t run here because they couldn’t risk having a wrestler suspended. (NOTE: the bill actually would allow WWE to appoint its own physician). Taylor said the trend was towards deregulation of pro wrestling citing states such as California, Illinois, Texas, Michigan, and Nevada. Senator Ross Tolleson asked about WWE’s handling of testing for drugs and communicable diseases. Taylor cited WWE’s Wellness Policy. Johnson complimented WWE on the level of training their wrestlers demonstrated. Senator Henson asked about medical screening. Taylor said WWE had a physician in attendance and noted how wrestlers were subject to “peer review” by the agents and other wrestlers. Surprisingly, Taylor failed to mention the medical testing that caught MVP’s heart problem. Taylor said there had been no deaths in a WWE ring in 25 years.

Wrestler Simon Sermon called SB 413 a knee jerk reaction to the Benoit tragedy and big government at its most evil. Sermon said wrestling was his hobby, and his profession was being a private detective. Sermon ran down a list of injuries he had received. But it was a swerve, as he concluded by revealing that his injuries occurred while pursuing other “hobbies” like flag football and basketball. Sermon said he had never been seriously injured during his 7 year career.

Bill Behrens told the Committee that he was employed by Total Nonstop Action, “the Avis of the wrestling business”, and had promoted over 1,000 wrestling shows. Behrens said he had never seen a GAEC member in attendance at any of his shows. He pointed out the ambiguous language contained in the bill’s definition of pro wrestling which states that wrestling matches may have a predetermined outcome and wrestlers may not use their best effort to win.

Behrens presented many of the same arguments he did at the GAEC hearing in December – the nature of wrestling is different from MMA and boxing because there is no intent to hurt an opponent to win a purse. He contrasted wrestling with watching NWA Anarchy wrestler Slim J compete in MMA and how dangerous it was by comparison. He said the claims of major injuries related to pro wrestling in Georgia are unsubstantiated by any evidence. He stated that the Georgia 911 system has a 4 minute average response time, so having ambulances sitting at wrestling shows would be a waste of valuable resources.

Behrens brought up the 12 rules he presented to the GAEC on behalf of the wrestling advisory board. Johnson said he no knowledge of those rules and wanted to get a copy of them.

NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer spoke as a trained paramedic and a wrestling promoter. Palmer compared wrestling to a sixth grade play put on by very big boys. He said the $1,000 per show permit fee, the MD and ambulance requirements, etc., would put him out of business. He said the gate tax was okay if the GAEC wanted 5% of his $1,000 gate. Palmer warned that if SB 413 became law, then it would be just the big promotions and the outlaw promotions left doing business.

Palmer said he didn’t mind regulation, but he did not appreciate extinction. He reiterated that the promoters’ efforts to collaborate with the GAEC went nowhere. Johnson complimented Palmer on his knowledge of the bill.

Just as he was at the GAEC hearing in December, Eddie (aka Iceberg) Chastain’s testimony was one of the highlights of the hearing. Iceberg offered to give the Committee members a worked punch of the type that are used in pro wrestling and a shoot punch like in boxing and let them judge which needed to be regulated.

Johnson concluded the meeting by thanking the wrestling side for their input and reassuring them that they were seeing the legislative process in action.

JAPAN: All Japan Pro Wrestling/Dory Funk Jr. Sayonara Tour begins with sellout

Posted on 2/18/108 by Dory Funk

All Japan returned to Korakuen Hall today in order to kickoff what might be one of the most eventful Korakuen Hall shows out of any promotion so far this year. The main event was a big clash between the two title matches that will take place on 3/1 in Sumo Hall, with the champion combo of Kensuke Sasaki (Triple Crown) & Katsuhiko Nakajima (Jr. Champion) taking on VM's Satoshi Kojima & Silver King.

The main event was a wild one, with Satoshi Kojima in particular going on one of his reckless runs, using chair attacks during the match. Kojima went as far as to put Nakajima in the Strangle Hold Gamma, a known speciality of Kensuke Sasaki, and after the match attacking the young players of the Kensuke Office (Ryuji Yamaguchi, Takashi Okita & Kento Miyahara) with steel chairs. Once Kensuke rose to his feet, his rage immediately showed as he quickly grabbed a microphone and made a bold revenge declaration set for Sumo Hall on 3/1, saying that Kojima would pay for his actions.

The semi-main saw Naoki Tanisaki make his All Japan debut, substituting for "brother" YASSHI who was injured during yesterday's Kasuichi show. TARU stated that he chose a very strong junior for VM in Shuji Kondo, and then there was YASSHI who gets injured almost immediately. The focus of the match was of course on Suwama, making his first appearance on the home unit's side in over 2 years. After the match, TARU oddly sprayed Suwama with red spraypaint, and attempted to cut his hair, but Suwama was surprisingly saved by young player, Seiya Sanada! TARU told Suwama that his actions would come full circle at Sumo Hall, and that he would make Suwama wish he were still a member of VM.

Dory Funk Jr. (sporting an old team jacket from the Baba days) returned to the All Japan mat today to begin his retirement series, bringing with him some trademarks such as his pattened European uppercuts! Dory & Nishimura also used some double team moves during the match, but it was Dory's spinning toehold that secured the match for his team. Dory said that he was very happy to have been able to wrestle in Korakuen Hall one more time, and thanked the fans for being so warm to him today (which they were, booing anyone who even attempted to strike Dory).

A big junior singles match occurred on the card today. A rematch of one of 2006's strongest junior bouts, Kaz Hayashi vs. Shuji Kondo. The match was said to be really good, until NOSAWA Rongai & MAZADA intruded getting LARGE boos from the crowd. Kaz again got into with NOSAWA & MAZADA, and was attacked, but thankfully was saved by former New Japan wrestler, El Samurai! Samurai entered with a huge wave of cheers behind him and "Samurai" calls from the fans. Kaz told the fans that there would be a junior tag league next month, and extended his hand to El Samurai, who shook his hand and headed to the back area. Backstage, Samurai said that although Kaz is trying to heap up All Japan's junior division as the ace, that Samurai was willing to help him against guys like the Gurentai and VM, and wanted to be his tag partner in the upcoming Jr. Tag League! Kaz accepted and it looks like the pair will begin teaming starting next series ("HOLD OUT TOUR").

KAI & Hiroshi Yamato made their Japanese debut and highly impressed the fans, showing what they learned in Mexico, and somewhat overwhelming their fellow classmates, Seiya Sanada & T28. Sanada & T28 showed their tempers somewhat, refusing to shake hands with KAI & Yamato and leaving the ring after being defeated. The "KY Pair" was happy to finally be in the All Japan ring, with KAI saying that while Sanada & T28 didn't know this, that he and Yamato grew up while overseas in Mexico and it showed in their match today. Yamato said that Muto's All Japan now had a "new" feeling to it, and that he wanted to heap up the young power after being born anew in Japan and said to get further growth they would periodically return to Mexico to become very strong.

TAKEMURA and Manabu Soya finally had their singles match after going back and forth in January. TAKEMURA controlled the bout, but Soya fought hard and showed more of the spirit that's making him stick out as a potential frontline player, taking the fight to TAKEMURA. In the end, Soya lost to TAKEMURA again, but not without a strong fight. On the otherside of the coin, NOSAWA Rongai & MAZADA completely defeated Hajime Suruga and CJ Otis in the second match. The Gurentai defeated the youngman combo in a little under 3 minutes, with NOSAWA saying that they were no challenge and wanted a suitable threat from All Japan's home unit.

3. Hiroshi Yamato & KAI Triumphant Return Homecoming: Hiroshi Yamato & KAI beat Seiya Sanada & T28 (14:14) when KAI used a splash plancha (frogsplash) on T28.

4. Kaz Hayashi vs. Shuji Kondo (16:58) ended in a no contest due to NOSAWA Rongai & MAZADA intrusion.

5. Dory Funk Jr., Masanobu Fuchi & Osamu Nishimura beat Nobutaka Araya, Nobukazu Hirai & Ryuji Hijikata (13:52) when Dory used the spinning toehold on Araya.

Combat Zone Wrestling

Combat Zone Wrestling returns to the ECW Arena on March 8 with a 8:00 pm belltime.

Tickets are $20 General Admission/$25 second row ticketMatches

First match signed for March 8's "Lights, Camera, CZW"

If you were over at earlier yesterday evening, you saw a new video posted by newcomer Vordell Walker. In it, Walker addresses the CZW fans, saying he "made their boy (Kevin Steen) tap", and took great joy in doing so. He also makes a heated challenge towards the BLKOUT's Joker, threatening to do the same to him in March.

It took all of a couple hours for Joker to see the video, call Lobo and demand a match, and then call CZWNews to not only inform us that Lobo had approved the match, but also to pass along a message to Vordell.

"Vordell, you were warned in February. You didn't get the message," said Joker. "You've called me out twice now, which are the two biggest mistakes you've ever made in your life. I'm a soldier Vordell, I'm trained to kill. March 8th will be the worst day of your career, and probably your life. See you in South Philly."

On March 8th at The New Alhambra... it's "Lights, Camera, CZW..." It will be one of CZW's stiffest and hard-hitting matchups of the year as The Cambodian Axe Murderer Joker takes on Vordell Walker. Stay tuned to in the coming days for more announcements regarding CZW's return to South Philadelphia.

Earlier tonight (Thursday), a video containing disturbing footage of DJ Hyde kidnapping Whacks' girlfriend Britney and speeding away from the New Alhambra Arena was posted on In the video, DJ repeatedly assaults Britney, and unleashes another verbal assault on Whacks, whom he claims will die before he ever gets his beloved girlfriend back.

Upon viewing this footage, Lobo immediately called CZWNEWS and ordered that a rematch between the bitter enemies be announced for March's "Lights, Camera, CZW..." event. The One Man Army did not comment on any stipulations, but suggested he may call back with a further update on this match at any time.

The feud between DJ Hyde and Whacks has escalated from "personal" to "beyond personal" at this point. Whacks has shown that there is NOTHING he won't do to eliminate DJ from the Combat Zone forever, yet each time, DJ has been able to walk away with his life intact. On March 8th, these two Ultraviolent stars will lock it up again, and there's no telling what they could do this time, especially with Britney's custody in limbo.

Head over to today to check out the disturbing video footage of DJ, and an earlier video from Whacks in which he addresses DJ and his committment to banish his "fat fu$#@ng ass" from CZW forever. Also, stay tuned to in the coming days as we release more information about March's "Lights, Camera, CZW..." event.

Elite Professional Wrestling

3/08/07, Oak Forest, IL, The Oak Forest Park District

The ElitePro office has issued a release regarding the rules for the new Elite TV title.

The rules are simple. The matches will be contested under traditional wrestling rules with a 15-minute time limit, meaning there will be only one fall to decide the winner.

As traditional rules dictate, the title will not change hands on a DQ, countout or draw. The title only changes hands on a pinfall, submission or knockout.

Kimberly Kash, president of Kash Inc., has informed ElitePro officials who will represent her on March 8 when Elite Pro Wrestling returns to the Oak Forest Park District.

Kash has selected the "crown jewel" of Kash Inc., ElitePro Champion Dysfunction has the captain of her team. She has also selected her Head of Security, J.D. Hughes to team with the champion.

As for the identity of the third member of the team, Kash would only offer this statement:

"Corporal Robinson is a foul-mouthed, Juggalo, creep that doesn't deserve to be in the same room as me, let alone a wrestler the caliber of Dysfunction. On March 8 I have decided to take out an "insurance policy" of sorts for Kash Inc. This insurance policy will debut in Oak Forest and make sure Kash Inc. sends Corporal Robinson and JCW out of Elite Pro Wrestling for good!"

At the "Make Your Mark" show in January, the ElitePro Dojo's first graduate Martin Jones, made his debut in a six-man tag after winning a battle royal of students. Jones held his own in the match and showed ElitePro officials he was ready for a singles match.

On March 8, he gets his chance. But it will not be easy. He will take on the man that choked him out in his first match. "The Real Deal" Jay Jensen was able to lock the rookie in his "Lights Out" choke hold and win the match. Jensen, who has had a hand in training Jones at the ElitePro Dojo, was delighted to find out he was given the opportunity to "break the kid into the business".

Force One Pro Wrestling

Force One Presented its "Against All Odds" show February 16, 2008 before a crowd of 332 wrestling fans at Saint Mary's Parish Hall in Manahawkin, NJ.

The show opened with Father Ken, St. Mary's parish director, who has wrestled under the name The Ninja Saint, coming out to announce his retirement. He was introduced by Big Al, a local parishioner, who stayed at ringside to thank Father Ken for his fun & involvement in the wrestling business. His speech was interrupted by another parishioner, who immediately attacked Father Ken & laid him out on the canvas. Big Al then proceeded to choke out the other parishioner with the "Big Al Sleeper", then placed the Ninja Saint over him for the 3 count & the victory, his final victory in a stellar wrestling career.

The opening match was a 4 way dance to decide the number one contender for the Force One Junior Heavyweight Championship. The Sure Thing Ryan Wing defeated Panther with a rollup (while his feet were on the ropes) after both The Canadian Shooter Tommy Force & White Lotus were counted out of the ring, and will face the Junior Heavyweight Champion Judas Young at the next show on March 15th in Egg Harbor City, NJ.

In a Falls Count Anywhere match, Hotshot Mike Reid defeated The Midnight Idol Nicky Benz, after the 2 brawled outside of the arena, only to return to the arena after the end of the 4th match, right before intermission. Referee Mike Walker hit the 3 count on Benz when Reid pinned him outside the ring.

In a very confusing turn of events, former Junior Heavyweight Champion Diego DeMarco arrived at ringside with his new Manager Jimmy Clydesdale to try to get his belt back from current Champion Judas Young.

Before the match could begin, Diego's former manager Millionaire Ted Jr. arrived with Jennifer Lynn to advise DeMarco & Clydesdale that his contract was ironclad, and that Clydesdale was not in fact managing Diego tonight, or in the future. Clydesdale remained at ringside with Millionaire Ted, and their conflicting advice to DeMarco ended up costing him the match, as Judas Young retained his Force On Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Mixed tag match took place that saw Pryme Time Amy Lee and The Rockin' Rebel defeat Roxxie Cotton and Patch, after Rebel hit Roxxie with a firebomb.

After a brief intermission, a 10 bell salute was given for several wrestling brethren who recently passed, including Jackson Daniels, and Johnny Weaver.

Millionaire Ted Jr. returned to the ring to announce the signing of High Impact, who then went on to defeat the Osirian Portal in a match that showcased the high flying talents of both tag teams.

In "The Brawl to Settle It All", Ryu Lee defeated his former friend & tag team partner Razor Rivera. Lee received a huge ovation from the fans after his victory.

In the final match of the evening, Force One Heavyweight champion BadBoy Danny Pagan defeated former WWE/ECW star Dangerous Danny Doring, despite a nasty fall from the top turnbuckle. Somehow Pagan was able to pull it all together even after a powerbomb from Doring, and flipped Doring over for the pin. Pagan was taken out of the ring by medical personnel, and the nature of Pagan's injuries are still undetermined at this time.

International Wrestling Cartel

IWC Accept No Limitations 4: War Machine Prepares for Boot Camp

By Joe Dombrowski, IWC Play-by-play commentator,

The International Wrestling Cartel presented Accept No Limitations 4, emanating from the famed Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth, Pa, a night that saw an emotional roller coaster of tragedy and triumph.

IWC Champion The Sandman & partner Raven were able to put their treacherous hate-filled past behind one another long enough to co-exist as tag team partners and defeat former champion Dennis Gregory and his War Machine ally Daivari. However, after the match, Gregory & Daivari decimated the ECW Originals with both a steel chair and Sandman’s own Singapore cane. Gregory made the challenge to Sandman for next month, to go one-on-one in Gregory’s environment - a Boot Camp match - for the IWC Heavyweight Title.

Super Indy champion “Sweet & Sour” Larry Sweeney’s first title defense of his second reign was successful against fellow former Super Indy tournament winner & champion Delirious, with personal interpreter Daizee Haze at ringside. Sweeney was able to reign supreme after his 12 Large Elbow, and can now set his sights to future Super Indy challengers.

Several potential challengers were determined in a series of Super Indy VII qualifying matches, to determine who will advance to the field of eight this April. Super Indy is traditionally the trademark event of the IWC calendar year, and the destiny of dreams, where they will either become a reality or shatter to dust. Four official qualifying matches were held, with three men confirmed to enter the prestigious field.

Former World champion Jerry Lynn added himself to the Super Indy tournament field already including Troy Lords, Super Hentai, and Davey Richards with a victory over the 20-year-old upstart Johnny Gargano, who chose to accept a bid in the Super Indy qualifying round despite his regular tag team partner Façade being outnumbered in his war with The Gambino Family. After a fiercely competitive match, Lynn moved on to Super Indy using the cradle piledriver.

“M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross the long-time “Innovator of Aerial Insanity” met a man who just may be as light on his feet as he is: the debuting cult sensation Human Tornado. M-Dogg firmly re-established himself in IWC singles competition, officially qualifying for his first ever Super Indy Tournament with the shooting star press.

“Havana Pitbull” Ricky Reyes made a big time statement in his qualifying match, with his sound defeat of CJ Sensation in under two minutes with his lethal dragon sleeper. Reyes still has his mind set on recapturing IWC gold after being screwed out of the IWC Title by the War Machine twice last year. Will the Super Indy Title be in Reyes’ future?

Two men who will not have the Super Indy title in their future would be the current tag team champions Jason Gory & Shiima Xion, collectively known as Babyface Fire. The two, who were intense rivals in the early years of their careers, revisited history with an extremely competitive battle which, much like many of their battles in and out of the ring in the past, ended in a draw. Both men went to the 15 minute time limit, which unfortunately means neither will advance to the Super Indy field. However, promoter Norm Connors dropped a bombshell… Shiima Xion & Jason Gory will still see action at Super Indy VII, as they defend the IWC Tag Titles against Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin, The Motor City Machine Guns!

Two unfortunate injuries occurred at Accept No Limitations as well, the first occurring to a man previously thought impervious to pain, Ray Rowe. Rowe was well on his way to teaching a very physical lesson to his former partner turned bitter backstabbing ex-friend J-Rocc, when J-Rocc’s true plan emerged in the form of 6’8” 300+ pound Jason Bane, a fellow Cleveland native and apparent new protégé of J-Rocc. Bane annihilated Ray Rowe, leaving him motionless and unconscious, and requiring medical attention, something no man has ever done to Rowe before. How exactly did J-Rocc and Bane completely destroy a man once thought indestructible? What is J-Rocc not telling us? hopes to uncover more news on this matter in the near future.

Also, Michael “The Bomber” Façade suffered currently unspecified injuries in his match teaming with Super Hentai against Mickey & Marshall Gambino. As the match progressed it was clear The Family was more concerned with carrying out the “hit” on Façade they attempted to finish last month, as opposed to athletic competition. After a spike piledriver on a stack of chairs on the floor on Facade, and a brutal assault on both Façade and Hentai shortly afterward, The Family was using gang warfare to reign supreme. The legendary Shirley Doe made his re-emergence to aid his longtime friend Hentai and one-time student Façade, but he too became a victim of the numbers game. The Gambino Family is back in business and perhaps more dangerous than ever before.

We also saw a very serious edge on another tag team, that being Justin Idol & Eric Xtasy, Sexual Harassment. After one final plea from Justin Idol for Eric Xtasy to take matters more seriously as they continue to work their way closer to a tag title opportunity, Eric finally relented and regardless of the best attempts of Jimmy DeMarco, Harassment stayed focused on defeating The Hollywood Balds, which they did indeed do. After having pinned five of the past six IWC Tag Team Champions, and now showing a more serious-than-ever demeanor, is Sexual Harassment finally focused and cohesive enough to contend for the IWC Tag titles?

IWA held their February 16 event at the Antonio R. Barceló Coliseum at Toa Baja. Luis Santiago, of reported the results as follow:

1-Rick Stanley defeated Manny Magriz in 8:19 applying his final maneauver.

2-Jeff Jeffrey defeated Tommy D in 11:32 when Tommy was distracted by the sound system as they played the voice of Cassandro calling Tommy. Jeff applied his flying spining kick to win.

3-William de la Vega defeated Richard Rondón in 11:45 after knocking Rondón with the Spain ’s flag pole.

4-TNA & NWA Female champion Amazing Kong defeated the team of Double Image in 9:58 after applying a splash on one of the guys. During the match Kong ducked a movement by one of them and seems that one of the Double Image team injured his knee.

5-Damian defeated Diamante in 13:11 when Diamante missed a glove shot against Damian, so Damian attacked him back to win the match using the ropes as leaverage. After loosing the match, minutes later Diamante asked for the microphone and announced his retirement from professional wrestling, as he announced his life has changed (he is now part of a religious movement).

6-The Naturals defeated Ray Gonzalez & Chicano by countout in 16:24. Ray and Chicano dominated the champions for a while. There was an accident where Ray accidentally hits Chicano with an elbow on the chin. Chicano claimed to Ray about it, and Rayt claimed it was an accident. One of the Naturals tried to push Ray against Chicano again, but Ray stopped on time to avoid another accident. Chicano called Ray’s attention as he tought Ray was about to hit him again. Then Ray was attacked from behind and that time he crashed against Chicano, who landed outside the ring. Ray began to fight The Naturals alone. He dominated Douglas , throwing him outside the ring and applying the figure four leglock to Chase. Chicano went to the top rope and applied his Illegal Mortal move on Ray, to the surprise of everyone there. He insulted Ray and finally left the ring. When Ray stood went after Chicano and they began to brawl, until they were separated by the IWA security crew. That is when the count out came. Chicano was carried to the dressing room by the crew, but Gonzalez, who was been holded by others of the crew, escaped and awent after Chicano. They entered the ring. Later, Ray Gonzalez came out of the dressing room and was followed by Chicano, who was applying chairshots on Ray. They reached the ring, where Chicano continued his attack. Jumpin’ Jeff Jeffrey came in and tried to calm down Chicano, who attacked Jeff as well with chairshots. One member of Double Image came to help them, but was received with a chairshot. He continued the attack until the chair broke.

7-On a stipulations match, Los Aereos Hiram Tua & Carlitos defeated Starr Corporation members Noel Rodriguez & Dennis Rodriguez. Match lasted 15:37 and Orlando Toledo interfered several times to help his guys. Due to the prematch stipulation, Orlando Toledo is now 90 days out of the IWA. After the match Orlando did not belived his guys lost the match. Richard Rondon came in with Toledo ’s briefcase and one member of the security crew came into the ring where he was complaining, and was carried out of the building and left the building on his car.

8-In the war named ‘GUERRA POR EL ORO’, Ricky Vega defeated Blitz to win the IWA Title in 18:51. That match was a fiove way match, also involving Mr. Big, Shane The Glamour Boy and Bison. Final segment saw Bison applying the Bisontennial to Blitz, but when he went to the cover, Mr Big pulled him out and began to fight Bison outside the ring. Shane attacked Vega and applied his elbow from heaven to Blitz, but Bison pulled him outside the ring by the foot. Three wrestlers outside brawling was all that Vega needed to ran and pin Blitz to win the match and the title.

On an additional note, reader Jose Maldonado reported the crowd close to 575.

Jersey All Pro Wrestling

Jersey All Pro Wrestling returned February 16, 2008 to Rahway, NJ in front of a good crowd described as nearly 1000.

Grim Reefer defeated Bandido, Jr. (is there a Bandido, Sr.?) afterr rolling through a top rope hurricanrana to win by pinfall

In a "Open Challenge Match", Pinkie Sanchez and Earl Cooter take on the Heavy Hitters. 8 ACE wrestlers joined the fun. "Moo Moo the Cow" was also attendance. Eddie Kingston's music hit. Monsta Mack and Havok went to the back, only to have "Moo Moo" get a roll up pin on DJ Hyde, then revealing himself to be Slyk Wagner Brown.

So we have a potential program with one wrestler portraying a heel being verbally abusive to a babyface rival's girlfriend (in CZW), and another who was charged in real life with being physically abusive. This'll make for a great combo. Better hope NOW doesn't hear about this one, folks.

In a 3 way elimination: Xavier vs. Omega vs. Teddy Hart, Xavier was eliminated first, then Teddy eliminated Kenny. Post match,

LAX runs in, chases off Teddy Hart, border tosses Omega, and challenges Teddy to a match later in the show.

Danny Demanto defeated Devon Storm in a TLC/Hardcore/last man standing/falls count anywhere, with Demanto winning by splashing Storm through a door set up by chairs jumping off a ladder. Storm was counted out, and Demanto just beat the 10 count.

Movie filming time, as Ron Killings defeated Romeo Roselli in a match filmed for the movie, "The Wrestler"

Hector Garza told Reforma on Monday that Perro Aguayo Jr. apologized to him for turning on him last week but thinks the addition of Averno & Mephisto is leading to his downfall in Los Perros. Garza thinks that a feud with Perrito is on the horizon.

Nicho el Millionario told a local Nuevo Laredo newspaper that he wants to get back into EMLL after a couple of bad parting of the ways. Nicho is hoping that L.A. Par-K can pull strings to get him back in again because he wants to get back on the main stage and EMLL is where he wants to be. Nicho said that AAA wasn’t paying him enough to do the type of matches they wanted him to do and he didn’t have any input on the members of La Familia de Tijuana.

National Wrestling Superstars

Ridgefield Park And Sets Attendance Record for Month of February

The crowds continue to throng to National Wrestling Superstars events and tonight’s show in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, with 197 tickets sold brings the total number of fans that attended National Wrestling Superstars events for the month of February to over 1700 paid. Taking these figures into consideration, NWS is on target for their best year ever with total attendance for 2008 approaching almost 2,500. Wow! And thanks to all the fans who made this possible.

Match by match results from the National Wrestling Superstars event at the Ridgefield Park Knights of Columbus Hall on Saturday, February 16, 2008.

Match 1-David vs Goliath Match

Blade Michaels (with King I Do Stink) def Jumpin Joey Janella

Referee Sgt. Jimmy Storm

Joey Janella, filling in for the missing Mighty Mikey Pacifica. Michaels and Stink said it didn’t matter if it was Pacifica, Janella or even Gino Moore, they promised a quick victory and a severe beating on their opponent. Perhaps they should have paid attention to the match because while Michaels expected a quick victory, it was anything but quick as Janella caught Michaels with quite a few surprising moves that had the big man off his feet several times during the match. However, at the end, unlike the story in the Bible, the Big Man defeated the Little Man for the win.

Match 2-Three Way Dance

Antonio Malave, Damian Creed and Sabotage

Referee Mike “Quick Count” Dillon

NWS has always recognized and appreciated the cruiserweights and these three put on one of the most spectacular events seen anywhere, anytime. Creed was the first eliminated, which left Malave and Sabotage who continued the bout for nearly 5 minutes before Sabotage scored the pin in Malave. Fans applauded both wrestlers at the end of the match and the wrestlers shook hands as a sign of respect.

As ring announcer Dapper Johnny Falco was introducing the third bout, out came the whistle-blowing Sal Sincere along with other managers on the card Gigolo Jones and Comrade Chow. Sincere wanted to know why they would book him against someone named “Pastor George” (asking “shouldn’t he be home preparing his sermon for Sunday church?”). Dinero had a copy of the poster from the evening that announced him against Brutus Beefcake. He told everyone he was “not going to wrestle any friend of Hogan” and especially in a loser gets a haircut match. Commissioner Gino Moore pulled out the contract and had security bring it to ringside to show him he had indeed signed the contract and the match was on or he would never wrestle for NWS again. Then Sincere and Dinero warned Jones and Chow to watch what they sign for their charges because if they don’t read the fine print, they could wind up in situations they never expected. Commissioner Moore ordered security to escort them from the ring.

Match 3--Singles bout

Boris Nobica (with Comrade Chow) def JP Pierce (with Goomba Johnny Diamond)

Referee: Local referee Al Richards (who is in no way related to a former associate named “Fred”)

Pierce, who had a decisive weight and size advantage over the man from the former Soviet Union, but with his Comrade outside the ring, it was more of a 2 on 1 handicap match than a singles competition. Even with Goomba Johnny outside, Nobica and Chow were able to distract the new referee enough to make the match competitive. At the end, Diamond was arguing with NWS officials about the types of referees they allow into the company. While this was going on, Chow used the flag on Pierce, allowing Nobica to score the win.

Match 4--3 on 2 Handicap Match

JD Smooth, Nicky Oceans and Cory Havoc, with Sal Sincere, Julio Dinero and Gigolo Jones versus Fred “Bonecrusher” Sampson and Rhett Titus (with Goomba Johnny Diamond)

Referee Mike Dillon

Before the start of the match, Gino sent Sincere and Dinero back to the locker room telling them “you are not signed for the match, you don’t have a manager’s license and I’ve seen how you’re blatant interference can influence a match, so security, get them away from my ring”. Jones told them he had everything under control and told the crowd that he had the greatest team ever assembled. He pointed out that Smooth is the NWS Cruiserweight champion, Oceans is the NWS Jersey Shore champion, tag team champion and FwF Cruiserweight champion, and that Havoc was the #1 contender for the NWS Jersey Heavyweight champion. How could they lose? Then out came Titus and Sampson who looked Jones in the face and said “How? We’ll show you” and the match was on. This was a very competitive match, despite the 3 on 2 with the referee keeping the managers under control, allowing the wrestlers to keep the action going. Lots of in and out of ring excitement and after nearly 12 minutes, it looked like both teams were ready to try to secure the win. That’s when Titus threw Oceans and Smooth out of the ring and launched himself from the top corner onto them. While this was going on, Sampson scored the pin on Havoc. When Sampson and Titus were being announced as the winner, Dinero, Sincere, Michaels, and Nobica came to the ring, joining Oceans, Smooth, Havoc and Jones in beating down Sampson and Titus. Commissioner Moore called for help from the back and out came Joey Janella who was thrown over the top rope (lawn dart style) and landed near the second row. Finally, Diamond went to the back and brought out Beefcake, Pastor George and JP Pierce came to the rescue and order was restored.

There was a 20 minute intermission where fans could meet the wrestlers. Dapper Johnny Falco also pointed out that 3-Count Promotions was selling copies of past shows and that this is a “must” for all NWS and true wrestling fans.

Match 5-Singles bout--Salvatore Sincere (with Miss Michelle) versus Pastor George

Referee Sgt. Jimmy Storm

Sincere, using his whistle reiterated his comment “shouldn’t you be getting your sermon ready for Sunday Mass?” and Pastor extolled the virtue of sin and that a pretty face, like that of his manager, will not get anyone to the Promised Land. Sincere then attacked Pastor George, but George, who told Sincere “I don’t need a manager, I have a Higher Power watching over me” was able to reverse the attack and spend the first few minutes of the match dominating the former WWE star (known to some as “Pinky”). This is where the benefit of a live manager comes in as Miss Michelle kept taunting the Pastor, allowing Sincere to gain control of the match. Sincere, using his whistle that he hid deep in his tights (no wonder the referee couldn’t find it). Once the referee found the object and took it away, George and Sincere got down to wrestling. Sincere threw George outside the ring and Miss Michelle again started teasing the Pastor, but he had had enough and started chasing her around the ring. When he rounded the 4th corner, Sincere was there waiting for him and Sincere threw him back in the ring and scored the 1-2-3 for the win.

Match #6. Main Event--Julio Dinero with Miss Michelle and King I Do Stink vs former WWE legend Brutus The Barber Beefcake

Referee Kenny Edwards

Julio, Michelle and Stinky told NWS they had the lawyer from their top legal firm (Dewey Cheetem and Howe) review the contract and there was an “I” missing from Dinero’s name which made the contract null and void. Commissioner Moore said “the only ‘I’ see is an idiot in a dress (referring to Stink) who couldn’t hold a job in a law firm for more than a week trying to get over” and said “somebody’s getting a haircut”. That’s when Beefcake’s music hit and he came strutting out with his big pair of scissors for a big haircut. Julio and Michelle hid their pretty long locks telling Beefcake “we don’t have long hair so we can’t get it cut”. Finally, the match got underway and the Dinero seemed to have much of the match going his way and looked like it was going to be an easy victory. Julio put Beefcake on the ropes and distracted the referee, allowing Michelle and Stink to choke the former WWE star. After nearly 10 minutes, Beefcake found the strength and savvy to come back and caught Dinero in a sleeper. When he went to give the former TNA/ECW star a haircut, Miss Michelle stood in front of him and pleaded “no, don’t do it”. While this was going on, Stink snuck in from behind and tried hitting Beefcake, but the wily was too smart and caught the manager in a sleeper, much to the delight of the fans. While this was going on, Miss Michelle got Dinero out of the ring, so Beefcake cut the locks of the King to send the crowd home happy.

ROH pay-per-views dropped in Canada; TNA not doing much better

Steve Gerweck - Tuesday, February 12 2008

One of the major carriers of pay-per-views in Canada has dropped the Ring of Honor PPVs due to a lack of buys. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the recent ROH PPV offerings only mustered about 36 buys nationwide. This is alarming since ROH does have television on the Fight Network in Canada. TNA isn't doing much better in Canada. One of the recent TNA PPVs only drew a few hundred PPV buys. At this point, only UFC and WWE draw serious buy numbers in Canada.
