January 8, 2008
Recap by Sassy
is being broadcast from Wilkes-Barre, PA on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Ringside announcers: Joey Styles and Tazz
Ring announcer: Tony Chimel
Styles informs the audience there will be a dance off tonight
between Kelly Kelly and Layla. I
must have the wrong show. I thought this was WRESTLING, not DANCING…
Chavo Guerrero will get a second chance to earn an ECW title
match. If he wins tonight against CM Punk he will get a title shot.
15 Minutes of Fame Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
The first team to score the most pinfalls in 15 minutes
will be the WWE Tag Team Champions
John Morrison from Los Angeles, CA, weighing 220 lbs.
The Miz from Cleveland, OH, weighing 231 lbs.
WWE Tag Team Champions
Jimmy Wang Yang
Shannon Moore at a combined weight of 407 lbs.
Audience favorites: Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore
My favorites: Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore
11:19, first fall: John Morrison pins Jimmy Wang Yang
Commercial break in the middle of the match.
Back from commercial break, the clock is at 7:28 and there
appears there were no pinfalls during the break.
6:18, second fall: Jimmy Wang Yang pins John Morrison
One fall per team, it’s a tie, the WWE Tag Team Champs
retain their titles
Winners: John Morrison & The Miz who retain the WWE
Tag Team Championship
Not a bad match but it would have been nice to see Yang and
Moore with those title belts.
Styles reminds the audience that Chavo gets a second chance
Back from commercial break, film clip from last week on
squash of Colin Delaney by Big Daddy V.
Tazz is in the ring with Colin Delaney with taped ribs. Tazz
reminds everyone that Colin’s first match in ECW was against Shelton Benjamin
and his second match was against Big Daddy V. Tazz tries to get a replay of last
week’s match – twice – but it doesn’t happen. Colin says that he
didn’t have a good a match last week as he would have liked and says that he
hurts pretty much everywhere. Tazz tells Colin that tonight he does not have to
face an ECW superstar but he does have to face a Smackdown superstar.
The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry
All I can say is Colin Delaney was better off in the Indys as
Colin Olsen of the Olsen twins.
Audience favorite: I’m not sure
My favorite: I’m not sure about Colin Delaney but I do
like Mark Henry
Winner: The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry
Short total squash by Mark Henry. Is WWE ever going to allow
Colin to be in a real match?
Styles again reminds us about the match coming up between
Chavo and CM Punk.
Promo for Kofi Kingston, newest WWE acquisition from Jamaica.
Back from commercial break, Styles and Tazz show us the Royal
Rumble page on www.wwe.com.
Lena Yada, the newest WWE Diva. She is going to host the Diva
Dance Contest tonight.
Audience favorite: I’m not sure
My favorite: I have favorite wrestlers, my favorite
dancers are not in the wrestling ring
Winner and does it even matter: Lena Yada
I understand that Layla is attending wrestling school which
would make me have a little more respect for her. However, I fail to see the
reasoning behind a dance contest in ECW. Instead of Extreme Championship
Wrestling, we have MCW Men’s Club Women.
I thought Layla did the best job but it looks like we are
starting a three way feud between the ECW divas.
CM Punk is heading toward the ring for his match against
Chavo Guerrero which is coming up next.
Back from commercial break, Shelton Benjamin is backstage
telling everyone about how great Shelton Benjamin is and that he is going to be
in the Royal Rumble match.
Second Chance Match
Chavo Guerrero from El Paso, TX, weighing 215 lbs.
CM Punk from Chicago, IL, weighing 225 lbs.
Audience favorite: CM Punk
My favorite: I like them both
Winner: CM Punk, ECW Champion, via disqualification
Chavo lost the his match against Punk last week after being
counted out outside the ring. Punk just barely made it back into the ring to
beat the count. Both of these men are talented and I am hoping that we will have
a good match tonight. If Chavo wins tonight, he will get a shot at the ECW
Chavo doesn’t seem to have lost anything in his time away
from the ring. He can still wrestle and he can fight low down and dirty. Punk
has his hands full with Chavo in the ring. Punk has better use of his feet in
the ring than does Chavo but Chavo doesn’t hesitate to take high risks.
There was a commercial break in the middle of this match as
well. WWE needs to take up and stop taking commercial breaks during the best
matches. Because of that, I TIVO the programs and watch them so that I can fast
forward through the commercials and see the match in basically its entirety. Due
to his loss in this match, Chavo does not earn a shot at the ECW Championship.
