Injuries

Ring of Honor roster members were the recipients of injuries the weekend before last, with the most severe suffered by ROH World Heavyweight Champion Nigel McGuinness. Nigel sustained a concussion, a broken nose, and required 14 stitches to close a gash in his head – this during his match with Austin Aries.  Nigel will be out of action for at least a month and perhaps longer. Nigel still holds the title but no word yet on whether or not he will be able to hang onto it during his recuperation or if ROH management has other ideas…

American Dragon Bryan Danielson and Rocky Romero also suffered concussions at this show.

News, Results and Events

411mania.com reported last night that Ring of Honor booker Gabe Sapolsky was involved in a car wreck last Saturday evening in Philadelphia.

Sapolsky has indicated on the promotion's message board that he was "OK"...this, despite the accident being bad enough that his car was totaled and that Sapolsky needed 18 stitches to close a head wound resulting from the accident.

Derek Frazier tore his ACL and is expected to miss about 9 months of action.

Rising Phoenix Wrestling titles unified in Mesa, AZ

January 6, 2008 by Greg Bonessi

IZW & RPW Titles Unified on January 5

Greg DeMarco (The host of IZW Impulse)

A capacity crowd witnessed a history making even on January 5, 2008 at the Broadway Recreation Center in Mesa, Arizona as the NWA-Arizona championships were unified with the IZW championships in front of a standing room only crowd. It couldn't have been more fitting that the most important matches in Arizona wrestling history were contested in front of the most vocal crowd IZW or RPW ever witnessed.

The first unification match of the evening saw Arizona veterans Native Blood (Navajo Warrior & Ghostwalker) overcome the antics of the 602 Wrecking Crew (Jacob "The Riot" Herzberg & "The Irish Hand Grenade" Marty Murphy) to regain the IZW Tag Team championships and capture the vacant NWA-Arizona Tag Team titles. The rookies were impressive once again in the biggest match of either of their careers, but the veterans were too much for them to handle as Native Blood finished the evening with both tag team championships. Seeing Native Blood backstage, it was obvious they had been through a fight, and that this isn't the last time they'll have to deal with the 602 Wrecking Crew.

In the show's main event, "XXX" Lawrence Tyler successfully defended the NWA-Arizona Heavyweight championship (a title that he has never lost since August 12, 2006 when he became the first ever NWA-Arizona champion), and regained the IZW World Heavyweight championship for a record 4th time when he pinned "The Hawaiian Lion" John Williams.

Both men pulled out all the stops in this outrageous battle, as Lion took the action into the stands, hitting "XXX" with several Lion Chops amongst the crowd in the bleachers. LT didn't hold back either, using brass knuckles to finish the IZW champion off and capture the two biggest titles in all of Arizona. If you thought Lawrence Tyler was difficult to deal with, his interview after the match proved that this is just the beginning for the Arizona's unified heavyweight champion, who promises to be bigger, badder, and more in your face in 2008.

In other news, "The New York Giant" AJ Summers pinned "The Feature Presentation" Jay Garland by flying 15 feet across the ring with a frog splash to win the IZW Invitational Tournament final that also included "Everybody's Favorite Brazilian" Antonio Mestre. For AJ, with just one year of active competition, this is a huge breakout win that will only propel him upward in his career in IZW.

Lucha Reigns pinned Mucha Reigns following a Springboard Shirinui, forcing his former partner to unmask in front of all of the IZW faithful that once rooted for the young team as IZW Tag Team champions. Also, Lehi David Smith's rant in the middle of the ring was interrupted by Redrum (TNA's Rellik), who proceeded to destroy LDS, much to the delight of the sold-out Broadway Recreation Center.

Full results:

Johnny Dynamite defeated Country Bear

Skull & Bones ("Miracle" Mike James & Dread Pirate Bernie) beat Ryan Lynch & James Freeman

Erica D'Erico pinned Violet Flame

Redrum (TNA's Rellik) demolished Lehi David Smith

Fearless Jack Bull's promised stunt was interrupted by IZW Board of Director's representative Strangler Steve King and attack by "The Limited Edition" Tommy Drake

Lucha Reigns pinned Mucha Reigns in a Mask vs. Mask match, forcing Mucha to unmask

"The New York Giant" AJ Summers defeated "The Feature Presentation" Jay Garland and "Everybody's Favorite Brazilian" Antonio Mestre in a 3-Way Dance to win the IZW Invitational Tournament

Native Blood (Navajo Warrior & Ghostwalker) defeated The 602 Wrecking Crew (Jacob "The Riot" Herzberg & "The Irish Hand Grenade" Marty Murphy) to unify the IZW and NWA Arizona Tag Team Championships

"XXX" Lawrence Tyler pinned "The Hawaiian Lion" John Williams to unify the IZW World and NWA-Arizona Heavyweight championships

EVENTS

All of the action, and so much more, will be covered in an upcoming episode of IZW Impulse, which can be seen at www.risingphoenixwrestling.com/impulse.html. For more information, visit www.impactzonewrestling.com.

IZW returns to action Tuesday night, January 15th at The Sets in Tempe, Arizona.

IWA - International Wrestling Association

http://www.iwapr.tv/

RESULTS

January 6, 2008 - Histeria Boricua tour at the Jose `Pepin' Cestero Arena at Bayamon. PRW reader Esquimalito reports:

Romeo (formerly Superstar Romeo) defeated Erick Scorpion.

Damian (formerly Ash Rubinsky) defeated Onix with his final move.

A match between two minis, I presume Kato vs. Little Tattoo, that were the names advertised. No results reported although was reported that there were no aereal moves and no comedy spots.

Rick Stanley & Lord William de la Vega defeated two wrestlers whose name weren't reported.

Blitz defeated Tim Arson to retain the IWA Title. After the match The Naturals came in and worked heat on Blitz while Orlando Toledo was ran by Invader 1. Then Biggie Size came in from the fans stand with the WWC Universal Title and attacked The Naturals with chairshots. Blitz told Biggie that at the IWA there is only one champion and Biggie said that he challenges him to a match with the winner winning both titles.

Bolo The Red Bulldog defeated Abbad when Abbad was distracted by Romeo.

Richard Rondon won the Intercontinental Champion when he pinned Chicano in an Elimination match. Other participants, in order of elimination were Bacano (pinned by Diamante), Noel Rodriguez (by Diamante), Dennis Rodriguez (by Diamante), Diamante (no report on who pinned him).

Blitz defeated Biggie Size with a small package to keep the IWA Title and `win the WWC Universal Title'. That time Biggie came to the ring with the belt that Savio Vega won on Panama on 11/23. There was an incident with some WWC personnel that came in. More to report on that. Both Biggie and Blitz celebrated.

On an advertised but not delivered match, The Naturals defected The Aereals (Los Aereos, Carlitos & Hiram Tua) on match advertised as titles vs. hair match. Match ended when Tua was to do a suplex and Douglas ended on top of him. Then Orlando Toledo grabbed Hiram's foot and did not allowed a kick out and that way The Naturals won the match and keep title. The losers did not allowed their hair to be cut as they said that the match ended with a controversy. Finally Tua and Carlitos were able to cut Orlando's Toledo hair's horsetail.

Apolo & Ray Gonzalez defeated Los Auténticos (Miguel Perez & Savio Vega) by DQ when more members of Los Auténticos came into the match to attack Apolo and Ray Gonzalez. Bacano came to help, but was dominated. Richard Rondón had the same luck. Blitz came too, and when

he began to be dominated Biggie came in, clean the house and when he began to celebrate he took the hood off, now being again Mr. Big. Ray Gonzalez took the microphone and said he just began to do his moves and said that there will be more WWC jumping to IWA.

Lucha Libre

Lucha Libre information, with the exception of AAA and CMLL (EMLL),  can be found here. There is a separate section for IWA and WWC (both in Puerto Rico). For current Lucha Libre news, results and events, go to www.luchaworld.com and look for Kris Zellner’s reports!

NEWS
Box y Lucha is reporting that NWA Director David Marquez announced today that Blue Demon Jr. has been named the President of NWA Mexico who will have their offices in Guadalajara & Monterrey. Marquez wants Demon to have a working along with EMLL but not a total working agreement just a deal where talent can be shared along with using independent contractors giving them the space they need to work wherever else they want. NWA Mexico will also use the same rules as the other NWA territories but there is a question about the NWA titles that are currently in Mexico controlled by EMLL, which the agreement with EMLL will most likely entail. Supposedly this has been in the works for 6 months so we will see what happens in the future.

Ernesto Ocampo reported in Super Luchas today that Naomichi Marufuji & Takeshi Morishima will be working AAA TV tapings at the end of January and the beginning of February.
