WWE ECW

WWE ECW

December 18, 2007

Recap by Sassy

ECW is being broadcast from Rochester, NY on the Sci-Fi channel.

Ringside announcers: Joey Styles and Tazz

Ring announcer: Tony Chimel

This is the first ECW since Armageddon. For those that need to see the results, please see Monday Night Raw’s recap this week. Big Daddy V and The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry defeated CM Punk, ECW Champion, and Kane.

Styles informs us that tonight it will be MVP, WWE United States Champion, facing CM Punk, ECW Champion.

Tag Team Match

John Morrison from Los Angeles, CA, weighing 220 lbs.

&

The Miz from Cleveland, OH, weighing 231 lbs.

WWE Tag Team Champions

Before their opponents are introduced, we see a replay of the Tag Team champions match last week against Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang.  The champs won the match via cheating.

Vs.

Jimmy Wang Yang

&

Shannon Moore

at a combined weight of 407 lbs.

Audience favorites: I’m not sure

My favorites: Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang

Winners: Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang

Shannon has found himself a hat! Not that I think Moore and Yang will win but I believe they are the better team. Moore has been the bottom of the heap for a long time and I’m not sure why. Yang is a good ring worker as well.  They would make a much more competitive tag team than Morrison and Miz. I don’t have anything against Morrison, however, I’m not impressed with him as a tag partner with Miz.

Commercial break in the middle of the match!

Back from commercial break.

They DID win.  It’s a shame it wasn’t a title shot. If you watched this match, you noticed what risk takers Moore and Yang are when they are in the ring.  And they work well together.

Styles reminds us about the match coming up with MVP facing Punk. We see a replay of what happened at Armageddon and how Big Daddy V took down Punk for the three count.  It appears that Matt Striker distracted Punk long enough for V to be able to grab Punk when he came off the top turnbuckle and slam him to the mat for the win.

We see Punk in the locker room getting ready for his match.

Back from commercial break.

Tazz is in the ring and he says we are going to witness a contest, a contest with the new gold standard in WWE, Shelton Benjamin. Shelton will be competing against Colin Delaney from Rochester, NY and Colin went to school at East Ridge High School. Colin got a loud audience roar for the Rochester thing but a few boos with the East Ridge thing. Tazz asks Colin if he is a little nervous. Colin says he is nervous. Tazz asks Colin if he has any experience. Colin says that this is his first match. So we have

Shelton Benjamin

Vs.

Colin Delaney of Rochester, NY

Audience favorite: Colin Delaney

My favorite: I’m not sure

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Colin appears to be smaller than Benjamin and we know from his response that he has no experience in a professional wrestling ring. I’m not quite certain why someone declaring that he is “the gold standard of the WWE” would want to face a smaller wrestler with no experience in the ring. I believe this match is what is known as a squash.

Short replay of HBK’s win over Kennedy, Jeff Hardy’s win over Triple H, Jericho’s loss to Orton after interference by JBL and Edge’s win over Batista and The Undertaker. It’s a promo to remind you that Armageddon is being replayed all this week on pay per view.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, promo for Kofi Kingston who is on his way to WWE.

Kenny Dykstra from Worcester, MA, weighing 235 lbs.

accompanied to the ring by Victoria

Vs.

Nunzio from Rockland Co., NY, weighing 170 lbs.

Audience favorite: Nunzio

My favorite: I like them both

Winner: Kenny Dykstra

Nunzio enters the arena dressed like Santa’s elf and he mingles with the fans before entering the ring.  Nunzio is an ECW original but he gets beat every time he sets foot in the WWE ECW ring. Perhaps WWE could find a way for Nunzio to have better matches.

MVP promo.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, we see a replay of the match between Ric Flair and Umaga from Monday Night Raw. McMahon then announces a career on the line match for Ric Flair on New Year’s Eve against Triple H.

MVP

WWE United States Champion

Before CM Punk is introduced, MVP takes the mic from Chimel. We assume it is so that MVP can talk about MVP because, he is after all, half man and half amazing and is better than anyone.

Vs.

CM Punk from Chicago, IL, weighing 222 lbs.

ECW Champion

Audience favorite: CM Punk

My favorite: I like them both

Winner: CM Punk by DQ

Commercial break before the match begins.

Back from commercial break, the match has already begun – naturally. MVP will have his hands full in this match. Punk is quick and agile – not saying that MVP is not – but Punk is an active, fast ring worker. This is a fairly long match and tough on Punk who worked hard at Armageddon. I’m not certain how hard MVP worked since he walked out still the WWE United States Champion – because he walked out and got himself disqualified. MVP has Punk hung up in the corner and refuses to stop. The ref counts to five and disqualifies MVP. MVP looks a little surprised that he got a DQ but he seems to be great at doing that these days. MVP finishes up with a slam to Punk’s head before he rolls out of the ring and exits the arena.

Punk is recuperating in the ring and who should appear to work over a downed CM Punk but Chavo Guerrero. Chavo is the last suspended WWE member to return to the active roster. The last part of ECW is Chavo beating Punk and then some.

And that's all folks!
