Andres Galarraga rocketed 2 homeruns as the Venezuela Venezuelans defeated the
Japan Nippons by a score of 3 to 1 at Minute Maid Field.

Freddy Garcia(1-0) gave a fine effort for Venezuela.  He allowed 6 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings.  Japan had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Garcia got help from Ugueth Urbina who was credited with his 1st save. Keiichi
Yabu(0-1) was the loser.  'We won because we did the little things right.'
Venezuela's manager said after the game.  'This is why we practice things
over and over and over, so when we get in close games we don't make
mistakes.'
