Jose Valentin cracked 2 homeruns and scored 3 times at Pro Player Stadium as
the Puerto Rico Ricans beat the Cuba Cubans by the count of 10 to 7.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Valentin.  He blasted a solo shot in the 2nd inning, hit a single
in the 3rd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 2nd of the
season) in the 6th inning and smacked a one-base hit in the 7th inning.  Cuba
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.  

Javier Vazquez(1-0) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Orlando Hernandez(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 5 homeruns in 5
innings of work.
