Welcome to Goodlife JournalTexas Edition!
Sam and I plan to tour Texas for the rest of our lives.
We'll be happy to share our experiences on the road.
With difficulty, I have persuaded him to stay in hotels
instead of living in a Winnebago or houseboat!
August 5, 2000
We had a great time in Crystal Beach
. Sam learned a great deal about salt-water fishing.
Samuel landed a big catfish when surf-fishing. We didn't know
whether it was edible or not. Anyone out there know?
Sherm (our collie) went with us. He thought the sea was
great fun, as long as he wasn't in it. What a chicken!
On our recent return from Plano,
we experienced Sam's Restaurant
in Fairfield. The buffet was great!
The Mexican food had an authentic
flair.
The other barbeque place that Sam loves
is right here in Houston:
Larry's Barbeque
We recently went swimming in the Rio Frio
in West Texas near Camp Alto Frio.
Great place to chill! True to its name,
the temperature is a good deal cooler
than the sizzling Texas air. We saw
catfish and rainbow trout swimming
in the clear water beneath our feet.
Update July 15:
Sam and I travelled with the Youth and sponsors
to Alto Frio, a beautiful Christian camp near Leaky, TX.
He and I played hooky. Here's what we saw:

Fredericksburg:
Dog Haus (good German sausage!)
Thomas Kincaid Gallery
"Painter of Light"
Kincaid is a Christian. Hymns play
in the background while you view
his comforting paintings.
The Kitchen Store
Everything the gourmet cook could want!
Reasonable prices

Bandero
Pioneer Museum
What a hoot! Items from
private collections including
a two-headed goat, 15th century wooden throne.
Many items labeled simply, "Very Old."
Kerrville
The Cowboy Artist's Museum
Authentic art by real cowboys--
beautiful! Horses, Indians, wagon trains,
Painting, bronze sculpture. This is
an art museum even my husband enjoyed.
Along the Road:

Adam's Apple in Medina--Yummy treats and cute stuff
The apple turnovers were flaky and fresh.
We bought Julie a shirt with apples on it.
Next week:
Family Vacation in Port Bolivar.
We're staying in Fred Poulter's lovely
beach cabin.
I'm sure we'll eat at Stingaree,
our favorite restaurant on the peninsula.
The seafood is always fresh.
Last trip, we had 20 people.
Stingaree took our orders that
afternoon and had them on the table
withing 10 minutes of our arrival.
Lake Travis--the best place
for floating on clean lake water.
I highly recommend the tube treatment.
