Well, the 1999 Poker Run and Fly in are over for another year. Due to high cross winds at several of our destination airports, the poker run was cancelled. We decieded to let safety come first and take the critism for it.I would rather be called a chicken, than witness an inexperienced pilot wreak a good airplane and possibly get hurt in the process. We held a raffle of the prizes and a list of winners will follow at the end of the page. The pig roast was well attended and thanks to "Pigs are Us" we had ourselves one heck of a good party. Lots of food cooked to perfection, plenty of liquid refreshments to quench the thirst, and some music to dance to. What more could you ask for?
Sunday was a bit of a disapointment weather wise. Turnout for breakfast was brisk and lasted till cut off time at 11:00am. The cooks took a bit of a break and started on lunch. Gord Coyne and his daughters Milysa and Amber did a wonderful job of feeding everone again this year. They were helped in shifts by other club members, but they stayed from start to finish.
Most of the expected aircraft, were scared off by the weather, but we had enough show up to leave a good impression on the walk in crowd. Jerry Janes brought his Grumman Albatross from Boundary Bay to the delight of the crowd. LongBeach Helicopters sold some rides, but sales were slow due to the small crowd. Same for Parallel Aviation with their C172. The EAA Young Eagles program was busy all day with the younger crowd.
