The Shining

The Shining is an adaptation of Stephen King's chilling horror novel of the same name. The combination of King and Kubrick was amazing. The long scenes drawn out into a tangible intensity gave everyone a true feeling of isolation in the Ominous Overlook Hotel. Jack Nicholson plays this part like it was specifically written for him, and Shelly Duval's errie looks add to an overall masterpiece of film making.

Little Danny Torence's empathic abilities, or "Shining" as Mr.Halloran calls it, make him a vessel for the evil that permeates the Overlook Hotel. He is compelled by these forces to write REDRUM on the wall whick invariably spell MURDER backwards.

One of the most memorable scenes in the movie has Jack break through the bathroom door with an axe in an attempt to kill his wife. The phycotic look on his face as he glares though the hole is one to remember!

This image of Jack takes place in the Hedge maze outside the Overlook. Over the edge of sanity, he blindly searches for his son Danny in order to kill him. Only through quick thinking does Danny manage to evade Jack who ends up lost in the maze and inevidably freezes to death!
