The information on this page has been generously supplied by my McGregor cousins, Margaret Shand, Valerie McGregor, Rod Kennedy and Mary Shortis, without whose help I would not have known where to begin researching.
Our story begins in Scotland, where our most distant ancestor, PATRICK McGREGOR was born, c1740 in the Perthshire area. There were McGregors in Fortingall, Perthshire from the beginning of the 16th century. Our Patrick had died before 1790, having wed in 1757 at Fortingall, MARGARET McGRIGOR who had been born in Learagan, Perthshire.
Patrick and Margaret's issue:
It is noted, when following Duncan's movements, that he was born in Fortingall,and had twin sons born to Ann Ferguson in Edinample, Balquidder in Perth before they were married: named William and Alexander.The remainder of his family were born in Ardtornish, Morvern in Argyll. Duncan and Ann's issue were as follows:
ALEXANDER and WILLIAM, MAISEY, CATHERINE, JOHN, ANGUS, DUGALD,and DUNCAN
Duncan was employed as a shepherd. By the 1841 census he was at Albuie, District of Claggan, north of Achranich, Morvern. His wife ANN FERGUSON, who was born in 1765, had died before the 1841 census.Duncan died in 1844 at Morvern , and was buried in Lochaline churchyard at Morvern,in Argyllshire, where his late wife Ann was also buried.
Details of Duncan and Ann's children are:
ALEXANDER, baptised 24th May 1790, Balqhidder parish, Perthshire, and died 24th September, 1864 at Lochaline, Morvern.
WILLIAM, son of Duncan and Ann, baptised 27th May 1790 Balqhidder parish, Morvern, Argyll. He married JANET COLQUHOUN and had issue:
MAISEY, daughter of Duncan and Ann, was buried in the Lochaline churchyard cemetery, Morvern, Argyll.
CATHERINE, daughter of Duncan and Ann, born c1794
ANGUS, son of Duncan and Ann, born c1803 in Morvern, Argyll and married ANNE McLEAN, daughter of John and Anne McLean.They emigrated to Australia on the "Wilson".
DUGALD, son of Duncan and Ann, born 20th April 1805 in Ardtornish, Morvern, Argyll.
DUNCAN, son of Duncan and Ann, born 10th October, 1807 at Ardtornish, Morvern, Argyll.
JOHN McGREGOR, born 18th May 1800 in Morvern, Argyll, son of Duncan and Ann McGREGOR, married ELIZABETH ANDREW who had been baptised 15th May, 1797 in Bower, Caithness, the daughter of Donald Andrew and Margaret Jack.
JOHANN, born in Australia 6th August 1841 at Brandon, Williams River in NSW, Australia.

John, Elizabeth and their young family came to Australia in 1838 on the ship "Brilliant" and settled in the Williams River area. They later moved to the Clarence River district where John and Elizabeth resided for the remainder of their lives.
John McGregor died 28th August, 1888 at Ulmarra, NSW, and Elizabeth on 25th August, 1869, also at Ulmarra.

Dugald, son of John McGregor and Elizabeth Andrew, was born on 1st December, 1833 in Morvern, Argyll, Scotland and came to Australia with his parents on the "Brilliant".
He married Jane Anne Childs, who was born in 1840 in Hilton, Huntingtonshire in England, the daughter of Edward Childs and Jane Fordham. She died in 1868 at Manly, Sydney NSW. After her death he married Mary Allison, who died 20th May 1916. Dugald died on 22nd December, 1910 at Ulmarra.
