Chocolate Almond Butterballs

(This is an old Swedish recipe)

2 squares (2 ounces) semi sweet chocolate
1 tablespoon milk
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup blanched almonds chopped

Melt chocolate in milk over hot water and cool.
Sift flour and salt together.
Cream butter, gradually add sugar and vanilla creaming well.
Blend in the cooled melted chocolate mixture.
Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix thoroughly.
Stir in the blanched almonds.

Shape dough into balls using a rounded teaspoonful for each.
Roll in sugar now (or in confectioners' sugar after baking).
Place on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes
until set but not browned.  Makes 3 1/2 dozen
