A fabulous plant, looking like something right out of a Dr. Seuss book with its giant rosette of stiff blue leaves atop a tall trunk that develops slowly. Being native to rather high elevations it seems to have no trouble at all adapting to the wet winters of the Pacific Northwest, indicated from trials in several gardens. In fact it does not even seem to demand xeric conditions, as long as drainage is good.

These young plants at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle are just starting to form a trunk.
