Questions to ask when hiring a Doula.

When considering hiring a Doula it is important that you determine your needs and choosing a Doula that best suits those needs.
You should interview prospective Doulas carefully.It is important to consider training,background,experience,number of births attended,limits of her practice,fees and backup arrangements.
It is important to find out if this person has values compatible with yours and if she possesses personal qualities you desire in a Doula.

Here are some questions to consider:

• How did you receive your training as a Doula?
• How many births have you attended?
• Who is your backup?When might they care for me?
• What are your fees?When will I need to pay them?
• When would I call you?Are you available 24 hours a day?
• Will you come to my house when I am in labour?
• How can you help me avoid an episiotomy?
• If I need a cesarean,will you be able to accompany me into the OR?
• What do you provide that is different from what the hospital/birth center staff can provide?
• Why did you become a Doula?
• Why do you feel labour support is helpful?
• May I have references of others you have cared for?
