Monstervision Movie Reviews and Host Segments, and 100% Wierd Listings for your viewing pleasure this month
Hi, how ya doin?

Welcome to the Mostervision page.

FAQ (frequently asked question): What's the difference between Monstervision on TNT and Mystery Science Theater 3000 (still showing in reruns @ 9am each Saturday) on the Sci-Fi channel?
Monster jokes "There are 3 types of people in the world - those who are good at math and those who aren't."

Past movies have included Star Trek 1 & 2, all 3 Poltergeist movies (in a row, the same night), Back to the Future, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, The Dead Zone, Christine, and even a couple of films they also made fun of on MST3K...
Following the Monstervision movie or movies was a film that TNT considers "100% Wierd". Sometimes it has something to do with the evening's selection (2 Godzilla movies were followed by "All Monsters Attack") and sometimes not. Sometimes "100% Wierd" is just a short film about Bigfoot ... which is about 50% wierd. Or Gilligan's Island, which is just plain silly. At this time there is no host, so the only difference between Monstervision and "100% Wierd" is the video logo at the beginning of the 1st movie. Each summer, Professor Joe Bob Briggs would conduct his own Summer School

These movies continue to run on TNT, TBS, and even the Sci Fi Channel in their original form. Simply print out the host segments for the movie when it comes around and read Joe Bob's comments on each segment as you watch the movie. It's the next best thing to having Joe Bob on the couch next to you...

Books by Joe Bob Briggs are available from this Amazon.com direct link

In addition to being Joe Bob Briggs on MonsterVision, John Blume also appeared on Comedy Central's Daily Show to comment on Godstuff. John Bloom's Godstuff page at Comedy Central. John Bloom does most or all of his own writing, I just don't remember how to spell Blum

All the blond jokes have been restored to the host segments for Swamp Thing

The WarGames page is now linked to Monstervision review & host segments for WarGames with guest Colonel Hackworth.

Jerry O'Connell's latest movie is "Kangaroo Jack," co-starring a computer-generated 'roo. But we Monstervision fans remember the host segments for the creature feature he doesn't talk about anymore, Joe's Apartment, which co-starred hundreds of cockroaches. His first movie was a certain Stephen King story. "People still say Hey, you're the fat kid from Stand By Me! When I'm collecting Social Security they'll probably still scream that."

Movies previously seen on Monstervision scheduled on other channels (some links may no longer work on older pages, each broadcast day ends at 6:59am) listed here on:

2004 Monstervision listings
An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind - Martin Luther King, Jr.

John Cleese (3rd Rock From The Sun) on the Titanic: "The boat sank, let it go"

There was a minor earthquake in California on Monday, 12/22. Some damage, but nothing like in the 100% Weird movie Earthquake, and southern California didn't fall into the ocean like in Escape From L.A.

12-14-03: Saddam Hussein was captured, hiding in a hole under a house lined with styrafoam & carpets. The military sweep of the area where he was suspected of hiding was called "Operation Red Dawn." That's right, it was named after the Patrick Swayze movie Red Dawn. I'm just glad they didn't call it "Operation Dirty Dancing" or "Operation Road House"

Matt Helm in the UFO/spy movie "The Ambushers" is on Action Channel all month, though Joe Bob wasn't watching Dean Martin if you know what I mean and I think you do

paranoid catChristmas without fruitcake is like St. Sigmund's Day without the headless boy Betty White

Santa's so jolly cause he knows where all the bad girls live

Get your kicks on Route 666 with Lori Petty as Tank Girl
Host segments now added for Zone Troopers, Joe Bob's favorite World War 2/aliens/UFO/monster movie with Timothy Van Patten

Mars Needs Women (1964/68, Tommy Kirk) will be on Flix 12/12/03

Fun fact: The Vincent Price movie "War-Gods Of The Deep" (1965) was inspired by Poe's "City In The Sea." Price's 1961 movie "Master Of The World" was based on a Jules Verne story, though Verne's giant airship was replaced by a gunship held aloft by multiple pairs of giant helicopter rotors to make it look more like sci-fi and less like a WW1 zeppelin
Wouldn't it be cool if the actors in Night Of The Living Dead made a Christmas movie? Well, they did. Joe Bob's review of Santa Claws (watch out, they're sharp)

Or would you rather join Count Floyd, Joe Bob and Rhonda Shear In The Heart Of Madness

Hey, who took all my Crawlers

This week in history, a man in Texas climbed up inside a building and turned it into The Deadly Tower (Kurt Russell's first movie), and this week in 1998, Joe Bob showed Jaws followed by Mel Stuart's movie about the assassination of John F. Kennedy - Judge Dredd would've known what to do with Lee Harvey Oswald

And Hitchcock's North By Northwest (1959) is on TCM - you know, the movie where Cary Grant is chased cross-country by men in black after witnessing a political assassination while a shadowy Washington agency charts his progress, and he ends up hanging down the face of Mt. Rushmore while Martin Landau stands on his fingers...

Joe Bob Briggs tells the story of Thanksgiving followed by a review of "Silent Night, Deadly Night 5" starring Mickey Rooney as a demented toymaker. And Showtime's showing Pinocchio's Revenge again, a demented R-rated "Child's Play" wannabe

See TV Listings for this month's 11am-4pm marathons on the SciFi Channel (TV Guide no longer has SciFi listings before 5pm daily)

How many sofware engineers does it take to change a lightbulb? See Joe Bob's jokes at the end of Grim host segments for answer, including three screenshots of Joe Bob hisself

Is the world about to end? Check out MonsterVision host segments for The Seventh Sign as Joe Bob reviews Demi Moore's version of "The Omen" as Hollywood envisions the signs leading to the end of the world, with a bit of "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist" plots thrown in. Not that Joe Bob would ever talk about Godstuff

Monstervision host segments have now been fully restored for Barbarella, Queen of the Universe (1968) starring Jane Fonda. Check it out as Joe Bob tries to make sense of Roger Vadim's weirdest movie

Mystery @ 11am Mon-Fri Night Gallery episodes, sometimes repeated late night / early morning when noted

There are former MonsterVision movies on the following entire-month channel's pages. Whenever possible, I have changed the movie titles on these pages to MonsterVision host segments links:
American Movie Classics ... Turner Classic Movies ... Flix
Action channel ... Encore ... Mystery channel ... Starz ... Wam!
Sci-Fi Channel ... USA Network

Quick, name the movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger beats up John Candy... Joe Bob looks at MonsterVision's Hercules Goes Bananas aka "Hercules In New York" (1970)

The SciFi Channel has Amityville 3: The Demon the last week of October
Joe Bob says, "I want my Mummy
MonsterVision host segments for Voodoo (starring those two goonie kids dabbling in black magic) have been fully restored and linked to TNT's Voodoo description page

What's kung fu like in spanish? Tune in Telemundo for movies like Big Trouble in Little China...it's fun! Big Trouble In Little China was, of course, last seen on MonsterVision in 1997 following Theodore Rex. They've also shown Universal Soldier starring Jean Claude Van Damme, a man who already needs sub-titles in English

Joe Bob Briggs of MonsterVision and Mike Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000 review Twister, with a nod to Beastmaster and Independence Day

Christina Applegate of the MonsterVision movie Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead will guest star on "Friends" in October playing (what else), a babysitter

Dracula (1931) will be on various tv stations in October, Joe Bob's review of "Dracula" and 1936 sequel "Dracula's Daughter"

Joe Bob forgives Eddie Murphy & Wes Craven for Vampire In Brooklyn. "I try not to hold grudges. It's not healthy."

The Shadow is on USA Network in September and the Sci-Fi Channel will run Outer Limits: Cold Hands, Warm Heart / I, Robot on October 3, the Outer Limits episodes that starred William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy, previously seen back-to-back on MonsterVision. Of course Joe Bob couldn't help mentioning the Star Trek movies directed by Nimoy (ST3 & ST4) and Shatner (exactly).

Pop quiz: which would you rather see, the original silent-movie version of "The Three Musketeers" or Hellraiser 3: Hell On Earth? Dumb question

By the way, a plane crashed into the Empire State Building, 11 people dead (in 1945)

Interview about ... Joe Bob's latest book

Can you believe the Sci-Fi Channel is showing Casper the Friendly Ghost?

The official website of the long-awaited Freddy vs. Jason movie is, of course, FreddyvsJason.com - Nightmare on Elm Street meets Friday the 13th, and New Line Cinema will have their other "big" movie back in theaters in October: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake, based on a true story)

The 5000 Fingers of Dr T is scheduled this month on the British Sci Fi Channel UK

Arnold Schwarzenegger announced 8-6-03 that he is running for Governor of California. Turner had already pulled all Conan and Terminator movies from their schedule starting 8-1, replacing them with "Ghostbusters" last Saturday. Oddly enough, they ran Terminator the following Saturday/Sunday. ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX have announced they will not run any of Arnold's movies until after California's special election in early October, Turner & other cable channels may simply "black out" Arnold's movies on cable systems in California like they do for regional sports. Just last month, he was promoting "Terminator 3," and now it's Total Recall. By the way, Gary Coleman is also running for Governor, so the same thing will happen with his movies & tv-series "Different Strokes" Arnold's official website

Joe Bob's reviews of the Police Academy movies finally posted here... Joe Bob Briggs defends Dinner & A Movie ... sort-of Dinner & Movie themesong from their website
Note: movies listed for UPN and WB networks are sometimes preempted by local programs or even professional wrestling

Forget about "Dr T and the Women," remember the 100% Weird 5000 Fingers of Dr. T?

Can you name the 100% Weird feature that followed "Clash Of The Titans" in early 1999? Here's a hint: it's showing on cable. If you don't know, click here and scroll to the bottom for the Weekly World MonsterVision

Note: Host segments for Xtro 2:The 2nd Encounter, which was followed that night by The Silencers have been posted. It ends with a paragraph that some might find disturbing due to the events of 9-11-01. This is the biggest, most popular Monstervision fan site on the internet. Don't believe me? Type "Monstervision host segments" in any major search engine and see what happens. Ozbricks.com/crowbar (the second biggest) removed "Xtro 2" host segments some time ago and doesn't return my email so I guess it's because of that final paragraph in which Joe Bob in 1999 notes that the guys in the movie say they have enough explosive to "blow up the World Trade Center" and Joe Bob says don't they realize that Arabs might be listening? Anyway, you now have fair warning before I post the host segments in question. I added links to John Bloom's first-hand accounts of 9-11 to the Joe Bob Briggs page some time ago (he was in New York that day). John Bloom has a website separate from his JoeBobBriggs.com

Remember the past MonsterVision movie Troll (1986)? Remember the name of the kid who goes for help to a good witch (June Lockhart) after the evil troll turns Sonny Bono into a giant cucumber? The kid's name was Harry Potter Jr. - Amazon.com sold a million copies of the latest Harry Potter novel in one day, an on-line record for any product by any company. By the way, Junior's dad, Harry Potter, was played by Michael Moriarty. Try that out on the next trivia expert you meet. "Name the 1986 movie that starred Michael Moriarty as Harry Potter"

Speaking of which, here's a joke I swiped from The Jerusalem Connection
A Jewish man goes to eat at a Chinese resturant and wonders if there are any Chinese Jews. So he asks the waiter, "Pardon me, but I'd like to know if there are any Chinese Jews?"
The waiter says, "I no know, I go ask manager."
The waiter returns from the kitchen in a few minutes and says, "No. No Chinese Jews. We have orange juice, tomato juice, grape juice, and pineapple juice, but no Chinese juice."
