Twidwell Bend is where I come to play so I can continue doing what is now my favorite pastime next to gardening. Building on my HOME PAGE. I hope you enjoy visiting here at Twidwell Bend. I enjoy working here.
First let me tell you a little about Twidwell Bend and how it came to be named. This is where our ranch is located. In the early 1900's this property was owned by a fine old character by the name of Frank Twidwell. He had a cabin and garden here. Close to where he had his cabin rhubarb still grows there. I would imagine they called it Twidwell Bend, because the Pine River makes a bend where the Sukunka River runs into it and bends around the property. He had been badly injured in the Washington woods when a young man, one leg being mangled below the knee. It was always a marvel to my husband's family members how he managed, travelling alone and on his trapline, limping along slowly with the foot in a padded cumbersome moccasin. Freezing his foot in the Yukon gold rush caused further complications. Frank finally gave up trappping when his leg became infected. His helpers were obliged to haul Frank out of the Sukunka Valley, a distance of about 50 miles, on a toboggan pulled by three large dogs. Frank was strapped prone on the toboggan with his head to the front. He mildly complained of a rough ride, as his shoulders were wider than the conveyance. The infection finally resulted in his death in Dawson Creek Hospital in 1941. It has been said that he was a most interesting man to talk to.
