Welcome to the Alvarado! This page will serve to inform
you on the history of the U.S.S. Alvarado.
The Name Alvarado
The U.S.S.
Alvarado was named after the 16th century Spanish explorer, Pedro de Alvarado.
Alvarado was a key explorer in Southern America. He was also however,
a cruel conquerer. Starfleet prefers to think that they are naming
the Alvarado after Pedro de Alvarado the explorer, not Pedro de Alvarado
the conquerer. Alvarado also was a person who tried things others
thought were impossible. In a battle between the Aztects and the
Spaniards in Mexico city, Alvarado was at one point cut off from the rest
of his troops by a large body of water. To jump across this body
of water was thought impossible by all those who were watching, but Alvarado,
fully dressed in a heavy suit of metal, made a running jump and landed
safely on the other side. It was so great that both sides in the
battle stopped and watched to see if he would make it, and when he did,
they cheered him. This became known as "Alvarado's Leap".

The quote "They are ill discoverers who think there is no land when they
see nothing but sea" is from Francis Bacon, a famous 17th century Earth
philosopher.
The Alvarado NCC-78550 is the first starship to bear its name. It
is the 4th Intrepid Class Starship to be built. The first was the
prototype, the U.S.S. Intrepid, the second was the U.S.S. Fiscus, the third
was the U.S.S. Voyager.
The Alvarado was launched from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards orbiting
Mars on May 24th, 2377. It is classified as an exploratory vessel.
It will, upon commission, have a crew of approximately 400 people.
The ship is equipped with the latest technology, especially in the sciences.
It has extremely highly sensitive sensing equipment and advanced scienctific
technologies. It is equipped with a bio-neural data network, capable
of transmitting data hundreds of times faster than traditional isolinear
systems. The ship is also equipped with several phaser arrays, along
with photon and quantum torpedos.
The Crew
The crew of the U.S.S. Alvarado has not yet been assigned.
