Welcome To My Site Updates Page

January 29, 2002 Really, it goes against the grain to advertise here. I've always been against the commercialisation of the web. On the other hand, why should most artists etc. have to starve and provide all their work for free? So, I'm not happy about it, and if it doesn't work out I suppose I'll pull the ads eventually, but my time ought to be worth something.

The good news for you is that I will probably be spending some extra time on my pages to see if that really does help with the revenue. I wish I could advertise on my other pages; I'd probably get the most responses there. But I'm not allowed and I can't complain since the space is provided free of charge.

I've begun work on Lindau II again, and tonight I started to draw a graphic for it. My computer graphic skills have improved immensely since my fiance bought me a beautiful Wacom tablet. I expect it will take about three evenings to finish it to my satisfaction, but that's not bad. The story is going to take much longer, so it will leave me time for a few more pictures. I really am getting a bit excited about the project again.

Well, it's been a long time since I wrote anything here. The pages haven't been updated much, which is why of course. I've joined the Web Brawls anyway, and that is fun.
Well, if you're wondering how my course turned out, have a look here:
http://www.film.queensu.ca/Projects/Haunted/default.html. Deborah and I got A's in the course and I'm really proud of the results. It wasn't really what I wanted to do but it turned out well. And, yeah, I'm the haunted strawberry blonde.

I've finally begun work on a whole new adventure for Lindau. It is still in the very preliminary stages of planning, but I have plenty of new ideas so I think it will take shape fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I'm working full time, in a half course load at university, and have a family so it may not get much time put into it until my course is over. But oh, the course means learning some neat new things and I'm working on a web project with two other people which should be interesting. I hope it will be something to be proud of when it is done. Both might be finished around the same time if I put lots of effort into Lindau. So look for some new stuff around the end of June. Before then I should have a few more colouring pages up. They are currently scanned and just waiting to be added. Several fairies and an Arabian horse done.

May 9, 2001
Well, I haven't done a lot of updates lately, but there are a few new colouring pages of fairies, as most of my visitors seem to come looking for fairies to colour. I've added an HTML Gear (tm) which rotates comments on the bottom of the page. I'm using it to tell visitors about things they might not guess are on the pages from the way I've named the links. Like that I have information on fairies, dragons, unicorns etc. under the Legends link.
I feel that what I should really be doing is adding to Adventure In Lindau, but it is sooooo much work.

Cool news: I'm taking a course called "Video and Multimedia Production" which may very well end up with me putting some "cutting edge" experimental stuff on one of my pages somewhere. I hope, anyway. I will need some actors to pull off what I really want to do. I guess we'll see.

Adventure in Lindau is still busy in the Site Fights competition. Kassina is back to her regular clothes and style on the index page. I've added several horse pictures for printing and colouring at: horse colouring book and hope to do horses from a number of different breeds. I remember being entranced by a book with line drawings of different breeds when I was a child. I feel like giving my pages a "face lift" but I don't have any ideas on how so I probably won't be for a while.

It is hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by since 2000 started. It's almost the end of the millenium. I've been keeping busy, and while I haven't added many graphic sets to my pages in the last several months, I've re-entered the Site Fights with Adventure in Lindau and I'm having a lot of fun. Kassina is all dressed up for winter now.

Today I changed the index page to a Remembrance Day theme, until Nov. 11.

I know that it is probably futile to make an anti-war statement. I look at what is happening right now in the middle east and it seems so hopeless, and I am unable to understand how people can behave in such a horrific way. But I had to try anyway.

October 27, 2000
I'm entering the Site Fights again with my Adventure in Lindau page. I've added a new guest book to that set of pages. I have a hallowe'en page now. It doesn't contain everything I'd like it to, but there's some information on hallowe'en traditions, a graphics set, and a game for kids. I also changed the picture on my index page to give it a hallowe'en theme. I've created a Christmas theme picture for later.

August 24, 2000
I've added a couple of new tile backgrounds on my graphics page
I have several graphics kicking around that aren't quite done or are finished and not put up, so I will hopefully be adding them over the next few weeks. Again, I will try to work on my pages but no promises.

August 23, 2000
I've added two adoptable fairies/fairy clip art to my Adoption page.
I appologize for not updating my pages much in the past few months, but life is busy and there hasn't been time. I wrote my last final exam yesterday, so maybe I will have a bit more time and energy for extra projects now.

Happy Birthday Dad!
Okay, so my dad doesn't have an internet connection.

I'm really just stopping by to say "Sorry I haven't touched my pages in ages". I won't be able to do much for probably another month still. Things are crazy at work at this time of year, and I've got a final exam in less than a week. Eek! Where did all my time go? That's what happens when you work full time, have kids and take a university course during the summer, I guess. The good news is, I'm going into the exam with an 'A' in the course. So, even if I fail the exam, I'll still pass. Got to hang onto that fact to keep the stress down to a dull roar. Keep signing my guestbook, and I'll know that someone has been by to have a look, and maybe I'll make it more of a priority.

Angelfire has fixed whatever was messing up my graphics. However, the impetus to find another source of service has led me to establish 10 MB of ad-free web space elsewhere for expansion purposes. I'll keep the space here for what I've been using it for, because it seems quite stable, but by fall I hope to have a new site, probably Strawberry's Bed & Breakfast (Where anything can happen!), established on another ISP and not cluttered with pop-up advertising.

June 5, 2000
On about Friday (June 2) most of my graphics here on these pages were coming up as an Angelfire ad instead of what they were supposed to be. I looked at my code to see if anything had changed and found nothing. I played around with it and it was still a mess. I finally decided to leave it alone. Over the weekend, Angelfire has fixed much of what was wrong but there are still several graphics on many of my sets pages which are messed up. I'm waiting until the end of the week, and if they are still a big mess I'll take another look at the code. If it isn't a code problem, I'll move everything elsewhere. I'm crossing my fingers not to have to do that! In fact, I have found Angelfire to be fairly reliable compared to one of the other free web services I tried before them. I hate to move stuff around after this length of time, especially if anyone has bookmarked my pages.

I am contemplating selling graphics sets. Not the ones which I already have up, but offering one-of-a-kind sets based on original watercolour or acrylic paintings. I have no idea if there is a wide appeal for such things or not.

May 30, 2000

I'm going through both of my sites and adding "alt" tags to my images. This makes it so that blind people can still tell what the images are. The speech software reads out whatever is in the alt tag. I've also added the "This site is best viewed with an internet connection" slogan to many of my pages. I'm really sick of going to look at someone's web page and finding that they know that their page is not viewable by my browser of choice, ("this site only/best viewed with IE 4.0 or higher" or whichever they have chosen) but that they don't care whether or not I can see it. Or having my browser or computer crash because of poorly written java scripts or other errors. Accessibility is an important issue, but I realize that I have been lax in this area at times myself, which is why I am updating with the alt tags. (Kind of hypocritical otherwise. Like the old saying that whenever you point your finger at someone, three of your fingers are pointing back at you.) I'm hoping to run all of my sites which aren't graphics collections through the Bobby site at: http://www.cast.org/bobby/ which lets you know how accessible your pages are to people with visual impairments, and how to improve them. So keep looking for the "Bobby Approved" graphic on my pages and feel free to nag me if you don't start seeing some within the next month. Things are out-of-control busy at home and at work, but I should be able to manage within that time frame!

If I can find it, I will also post the URL of a page which has done a much better job of explaining good web design and accessibility than I can.

May 19, 2000 I made a background set out of one of my adoptable unicorns. It's kind of um, bright, but I'm sure someone out there will like it.

May 18, 2000: I've updated both of my pages a little bit today. Thanks to Doris and to Eye Candy for giving me a bit of a motivational push. Wire Haired Fox Terrier Puppy graphics I drew the picture, Doris made cool web graphics from it.

This is the first work I've really done on these pages since the 12th.

May 12, 2000: Well, the site ring is up and running, sort of. A few problems with the code I got have made trouble, but hopefully that will be sorted out soon.

Please answer the question in the poll below (Click on the square) and tell me where you think I should next add stuff to my pages.

The following are some awards I won while competing. I realise that they should probably be on an awards page, and perhaps I'll move them to one sometime soon.
