Wow... what a great idea this cd was... Rob and Vivian on a promo tour, and recording tracks at the various radio stations they visited... GREAT THINKING! Acoustic versions of some of my favorite songs.

Two songs that stand out (for me anyway) is Toy Soldier and I Believe. Toy Soldier is one of my favorite songs by the Riverdogs, and the acoustic version is absolutely fantastic. Robs voice, Vivians guitar playing, the harmonies, they never sounded better! Rob and Vivian trade off on vocals for I Believe, and its one of my favorite songs on the cd. This cd is acoustic, but not mellow, familiar but full of surprises, and just a whole lot of fun!

One thing this cd is NOT is overproduced... the recordings are exactly as they were played, straightforward GOOD MUSIC!!!

When I first heard the RIVERDOGS I thought it was the second coming of Bad Company. Yes, I know this is quite a comparison, but when I heard Rob Lamothe's voice, I was simply mesmerized. Vivian Campbell's guitar work was very impressive and showed the he could play with alot of feel. Their debut release, for me was one of the finest rock CDs that I have ever heard. So when I got my hands on this rare live acoustic recording by the band I wanted to hear if they could pull off the same magic they captured in the studio. Actually, this is the acoustic version of their debut release. Let me tell you this, they pulled it off without any glitches. According to the liner notes, this recording took place in July and August on 1990 when then band carried their guitars into some of the finest radio stations in America. The acoustic version of, "Whisper", is done brilliantly. Rob Lamothe possess one of the finest rock voices I've ever heard. The energy and emotion that flows from this guys heart is mind-blowing! This is a kind of CD you want to play on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a beer in your hand and sit back and enjoy. To hear Vivian play an acoustic guitar the way he plays it hear is something else. Here is a guys who shredded with Ronnie Jame Dio. The rhythm section of Brophy and Baird (who plays a mean tambourine) work exceptionally well together. You have to remember that they recorded these songs in radio stations. A radio station booth is not the largest room that you would want to record, but these guys pulled it off. From the sounds of the laughs in the background by the band members, its sounded like they were having a great time! One thing is for sure, the Riverdogs prove that no matter where they performed be it in from of a thousands people to just performing is a small radio booth, the outcome is the same. Excellent! (Note: Since this recording, the Riverdogs have released one studio recording, 'BONE' and one live electric recording, 'ABSOLUTELY LIVE'. Vivian Campbell left to do other projects that include, SHADOW KING with Lou Gramm and is currently with DEF LEPPARD. Rob Lamothe has also recorded a solo CD, 'GRAVITY'. Does this mean that we will not hear new material from the RIVERDOGS? I for one, hope its not.)
