Clock is a side project that Vivian Campbell started during hiatus from Def Leppard. Surprise, surprise this record sounds nothing like and does not pretend to be like Def Leppard. Thus, if you are looking for more Def Leppard this is not the album for you. However, Def Leppard did record a cover of "To be Alive" from this album on their new record "Euphoria". With that in mind this review is not about Def Leppard but, about Clock and they hold their own very nicely. This is a most unusual record in the nineties in that in blends the pop rock of the 60's with with some 90's guitar sounds thrown in for good measure. The funny thing is that it succeeds very well. Viv and PJ Smith share the lead vocals throughout the record. Neither individual is a great singer in the classic sense however, they are able to pull this off very well and actually leave you liking their voices in a strange sort of way! Viv, is the better of the two voices without a doubt. If you are looking for typical Viv lead runs and fills you won't find that here either however, you will find a guitarist who has matured into a fine musician and who plays within the structure of the song and does it very well. PJ Smith plays the second guitar and keyboards. The rhythm section is a very good one featuring Mark Schulman on drums and bg vocals and Sasha Krivtsov on the bass. The bottom line on this album are the songs that will leave you feeling good and wanting to go back for another listen much in the way the 60's pop did. The difference here is that you get the added benefit of a lot of guitars to enhance this music and that it succeeds is a tribute to the fine song writing and the musicianship of the players. I like this album alot and if you are interested click on the Jammin Planet link on the site to order it as that is the only place you will be able to purchase it new. This one deserves wider release!

The first time I heard this, I had no idea what I was in for... I had read some reviews online and heard some friends rave about it, but I guess I was expecting a heavier, more ROCK type cd. I couldn't be happier I was wrong! While not being the "rock" I expected, it is by no means any less good. Melodic, well written, overall a great cd. Vivian singing is well suited to the music, and the songs are woven together beautifully. The band doesn't miss a beat! This one is gracing my stereo more and more often, and I hope at some point the band has time to get together a small tour of sorts, live they must be amazing!
