Pain is an idea that seems to float like a separate island. Pleasure is an idea that seems to float like a separate island. Sometimes pain is part of pleasure as in the bound up feet of the geisha girl who dances on the isle of pleasure. Sometimes pleasure is a part of pain as is the beauty of the bird fluttering free sharing the space on the isle of pain where women remain restricted by ideas of confinement. On another island the thinker in the foreground doesn't realize she's the originator of the dreams, not just the doll does she play with but all the world is her interpretation and invention. Her own face becomes mask upon her kimono playmate. It is her world to recreate when she is ready to question pain, to question pleasure, to decide that it is up to her to change the cast of characters and what they mean.
