**TRAINING TIPS FOR OWNING A BORDER COLLIE* !!BORDER COLLIES ARE NOT LIKE YOUR TYPICAL DOGS!! Border collies have a 6th sense to understand the human language,tone of voice,body language more so than you think. They are like children who you calmly or patiently tell them how to do something. Yes sometimes they need a scolding but they aren't like shepards or dobermans. THEY DO NOT DO WELL WITH FORCEFULNESS!! Border Collies even as pups love to learn and as a wee 9 week old baby their parents were already learning basic obedience. THEY LOVE TO LEARN- and do well with a calm voice,patience, and lots of praise. Border Collies are big babies and like to be treated as such--Thus they become very loyal.,"I'll stick to your side always" dog. Unlike other breeds if you come down too strong like leash training,at the vet for exam,they become defensive,revert backwards,become timid and it takes you twice as long to gain back their confidence. At the vet borders do well with Less restraint. Borders are very sociable dogs and love humans and other dogs. Yes I let mine "smooch" me and it is a habit among them to jump up and greet people. My males are protective of me and will grab my husbands arm when he wants to wrestle just to show their loyalty. NO THEY AREN"T AGGRESSIVE they just are tellng him "don't mess with Mom" **ALWAYS REMEMBER THEY UNDERSTAND HUMAN LANGUAGE MORE THAN YOU KNOW ** *!TRAINING TIP # 1-Lie puppy on back and do not let her up until you say so.If she squirms make her stay.Get her used to letting you touch her feet,ears,look at her teeth,showing her you are the leader in the pack and I stress always PRAISE her if she is putting up with all this. *! TRAINING TIP #2- Do not be real jerky with leash training,overbearing,or too strong. Go calmly slowly and remind your puppy how good he or she is. ***BORDER COLLIES NEVER FORGIVE AND FORGET*** If they have a bad experience they will always remember so be patient,understanding, and try to understand their level of HIGH INTELLIGENCE and work it out with them.
